572651 tn?1530999357 Hi Lulu I recommend you join the thisisms forum and chek the latested discoveries and studies, related to MS as being a vascular problem and in particular the jugular veins being blocked, so no wonder why nitroglycerin is helping you.
Avatar n tn I was diagnose with clogged arteries over a year ago. I even had a stent put in because one of my arteries was ecluded. I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs. I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low.
Avatar f tn it was not caused by a blockage but by vaso-spasms related to unstable angina and I was placed on medications to try to manage this. (As per the Hospital Cardiologist after a heart cath) One of the meds I was given was sublingual nitroglycerin and I have had to use it many times so far (I only use it when the chest pains last longer than 20-30 minutes or get really bad).
Avatar n tn i have been on tablets for angina for a week and wondered when i would start feeling better and could do normal thiings and go back to work thank you

Avatar m tn Nitro relaxes and dilates vessels, and very good for angina. But can also be used for esophageal spasms, this pain is often described as a substernal squeezing pain and may occur in association with exercise. Such pain may be indistinguishable from angina pectoris. Esophageal spasms are often difficult to treat, and controlled studies of treatment methods are lacking. The aim of treatment is to relieve symptoms by decreasing pressure in the lower esophageal sphincter.
Avatar m tn Is there something like unstable variant angina and if so is that different from unstable angina? I.e. does unstable angina always refer to the heart rather than the arteries contracting?
Avatar m tn I have had stable angina (chest pain with exertion) for more than 6 years and take a nitrate (slow acting) prior to an aerobic exercise and that controls symptoms. I also have the fast acting nitro pill available but seldom used. That works for me. Have you tried a nitrate? There is a tolerance issue with a nitrate and it is recommended to interupt occasionally for a day or two. For some insight: Different nitrate preparations are often combined.
Avatar n tn Monotrate, Vasotrate, Ismo, Imdur, Angicor), Isosorbide dinitrate (brand names: Sorbitrate, Isordil), Sublingual nitroglycerin tablets or spray (Angised, Angispan, GTN spray), Transdermal nitroglycerin patches or ointments (brand names: Top nitro, Nitroderm TTS, Myovin). Nitrates are also found in illicit drugs such as amyl nitrate (poppers). If you are not sure if any of your medicines contain nitrates, or if you do not understand what nitrates are ask you doctor or pharmacist.
Avatar n tn Angina is very common when someone has had stent implantations. I'm on medications for my angina, which surfaced after my first heart attack..however, with the medications, I no longer suffer from any angina. I guess I, as well as many others I know, are lucky since we have all felt fantastic after stent implantations. billben38us was complaining of "severe chest pain.
Avatar f tn Chest pain with MVP is usually sharp but not severe. Unlike angina, chest pain with MVP rarely occurs during or after exercise, and usually will not respond to nitroglycerin. The PFO may not be medically significant and that depends on the degree of shunting. If there is left to right shunting (hole in septum), it merely moves some oxygenated blood to recycle through the lungs again. If there is right to left shunting that would mix blood that should have gone to the lungs.
Avatar f tn When it is angina the chest pain gets worse when you are standing up and moving around. Gets less when you are resting. I take nitroglycerin under tongue for chest pain. If it doesn't go away in 15 minutes then I call my dr or an ambulance and go to emergency room. If your left chest hurts when you go to sleep it is not a typical angina pain. BUT you should check out any chest pain with a doctor. I know you don't have insurance. Try the hospital outpatient clinics.
1500525 tn?1458529998 she thinks that it is different, maybe PAD or a type of angina. The pain associated with ALS is different , this only happens when I am having angina .
Avatar n tn It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....It is important to have a "nitrate-free" period of time each day for Nitroglycerin Patch to continue to work well and to decrease the risk of physical dependence.
1098952 tn?1270309713 If a person with HCM were to take nitroglycerin, the symptoms would worsen and the nitroglycerin could even cause a catastrophic deterioration in the person's condition".
Avatar n tn Is it typical to have intermittent chest pain for the last two weeks since having my proximal LAD stented (coated stent)? I have resorted to nitroglycerin several times with mixed results. Today, I had some lightheadedness and shortness of breath with the chest pain, but a couple of hours later, and 3-4 sprays of nitro it is resolved.
Avatar n tn At the hospital the Doctors did an ECG twice and suspected unstable angina before I travelled out of my country for the Echocardiography. Below is the complete result of the ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY COLOUR DOPPLER REPORT 1) Mild Left Ventricular Hypertrophy 2) Trivial Mitral regurgitation, tricuspid regurgitation 3) Mildly Sclerotic aortic Valve 4) Grade 1 LV Diastolic Dysfunction 5) Normal sized left ventricle with good global systolic function, no regional walls motion abnormalities.
Avatar f tn are some few examples) have a large body of evidence in morbidity and mortality benefits (fewer symptoms and disability and live longer) and short-acting nitroglycerin medications are used for symptomatic relief of angina. Isosorbide mononitrate and nicorandil are vasodilators commonly used in chronic stable angina.
Avatar n tn I was under enormous stress when the pains started and the fear that it was cardiac in origin added to it. I had the nitroglycerin sublingual tablets. I took them, sometimes they helped, other times they didn't. To this day I have no definitive answer as to the cause of my pains, but they seem to have subsided for the past 6-7 months. Try the nitro and see if it helps. My guess is that it won't help indigestion, but would if it was due to vasospasm or other cardiac cause.
Avatar n tn There are other conditions that mimic angina and pain from cardiac causes that are more likely. Esophagitis is an inflammation of the esophagus normally caused by acid reflux. The tricky thing with this condition is that it stimulates the same nerve that angina does to cause symptoms. To further confuse the two, nitro will lessen the pain from Esophagitis and give the same relief one would get from angina.
503418 tn?1231098736 The symptoms of myocardial infarction last longer than 15 minutes, and do not respond completely to nitroglycerin. The duration of the pain is variable. Pain may resolve completely after a few hours, or may persist for over 24 hours. The physical exam usually shows the patient to be pale or grayish. Diaphoresis is often present. The MI victim often has a hard-to-define expression suggesting illness, anxiety, and pain.
Avatar f tn I read about nitroglycerin and Propranolol Hydrochloride would you recommend it?
Avatar f tn Two years ago I had the first time in my life a couple of Angina incidents which came back this summer with a vengence. Last months I had to call 911 three times, was in the hospital 2 times because of it. I underwent all tests there are for Angina cramps, even had an EKG done while cramping.
Avatar m tn It is generally brought on by exertion, eating, exposure to cold, or emotional stress and relieved by rest or nitroglycerin. It is usually not a sharp pain. Since angina pain is due to myocardial ischaemia, it is not necessarily qualitatively different from chest pain due to coronary artery spasm (Prinzmetal's or variant angina) or infarction, though MI pain generally lasts much longer.
Avatar f tn The pain was unbearable and she was the very first to take nitroglycerin, and then nifedipin. .Nitroglycerin helped her sometimes , and only for weak attacks , sometimes with the help of nifedipine average , but did not act with strong attacks. In autumn 2010, she was discharged from the metoprolol tachycardia episodes of pain in the left lower jaw became less frequent .
Avatar m tn I have recently undergone attempted angioplasty to try and unblock the RCA, due to continuing angina attacks, and unfortuneatly was unsuccesfull. I have been on a high chemical regime for some time and have been put on a new drug called Coralan (5mg). The mixture of Metroprolol, Ezitrol, Lipitor, Ramipril, Isordil, Plavix, Nexium and Aspro and now Coralan leaves me feeling quite week and lathargic and always very tired. My BP is steady at around 100/60, my cholesterol is below 4.
424634 tn?1277857528 If you know this to be true, it is generally not a wise choice to ignore it or hope it to go away, because it can actually mean you are having a heart attack, as symptom severity and duration suggest that if this is angina it is clearly severe and needs urgent attention. I would recommend that you seek emergent medical attention in the form of a visit to the emergency room today, or at the latest that you speak to your physician in the morning.
