The only antibiotic I can see here is the nitrofurantoin (Uribid with nitrofurantoin). That is not that strong of an antibiotic but can work in some cases depending on the bacteria. She should finish the course of antibiotics and if she still has urinary tract pain she can get try taking lots of cranberry juice if she is not diabetic. If she is diabetic she can't drink the juice. Is it possible to find out whether they did further testing on the urine? Does she have a fever?
I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI. I have a hard time swallowing pills. Can these be broken up?
9 days ago Nitrofurantoin (200g a day for 5 days) was taken and daily birth control (Qlaira). Both are known to decrease levels of haptoglobin but nothing about complete depletion.
Could this be an extended effect from Nitrofurantoin? When should the test be repeated ?

A couple of weeks later I developed a urinary tract infection. Urologist prescribed nitrofurantoin for the infection. Immediatedly after starting the antibiotic my ears gradually starting feeling clogged. Now, two weeks later, they are both very clogged (no wax buildup) and I can barely hear. Logic tells me the ear clogging is somehow connected to the nitrofurantoin. Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this happening? Will this clogging go away by itself?
However, it become pretty noticeable and I started to urinate extremely frequent with little urine coming out (not much of a noticeable pain when passing) accompanied with lower back pain (right side mainly, like a burning sensation). I went to doctors and suspected a UTI. I was prescribed Nitrofurantoin.

The doctor could see no infection so she made me do a kidney function blood test. The kidney blood test was fine . So I read online that blood can give me a Uti.
I have been taking ciprobid, doxyl and nitrofurantoin for a month now. but still the is no change. I still have some pains. I was diagnosed with an UTI, in the urine and blood test the was no Chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis in short no STI. m wondering if it is not safer not to take the nitro in this dose at all. This is a new GP for us (we have recently moved) and this doctor seems sadly quite unapproachable (he is always in a hurry and even doesn't want the door to be closed, when with patient, in a very busy practice), so I'm hesitant to talk with him (as over the phone at that time he did also hardly want to listen to my explanation about my chronic infection).
I’ve been suffering from IC for 5 years now and for some odd reason Nitrofurantoin/Macrobid seems to work well for me, even when my urine culture comes back negative. I take it (100 mg X 2 for 10 days) when my IC flares and within a few days the symptoms are essentially gone. They often come back 3-5 months later, but at least it works temporarily.
My doctors have no idea why this medication works, but it’s been working pretty consistently for the past 3-4 years now.
Hi All, I recently I took Nitrofurantoin 100 mg for a UTI and broke out in severely itchy rash, had vomiting, nausea and diarrhea. I took 2 doses and gyno doctor asked me to stop taking this medicine. I have taken this medication several times before but I listened to my doctor and stopped ASAP. Symptoms disappeared except I still have diarrhea 4 days later, yellow in color. I also have pain under right rib. I’m scared in pastx I have had gastritis, diverticulosis & had CT that showed 2.

Some bladder issues may be quickly resolvable, some are not, but all but the very, very worst can be managed. I too have to take Nitrofurantoin Macrocrystals after intercourse as a prophylactic. Sex is notorious for causing UTI's even in women without any underlying issues (google "honeymoon cystitis"). A lot of bacteria gets moved up a very short access as well as urethral irritation caused by sex. You are doubly likely to get cystitis if you have something already going on.

Turns out I had a UTI and she prescribed me with nitrofurantoin (2 a day for 7 days) and a diflucan pill in case I got a yeast infection from the antibiotics. While she was doing my pap she said that everything looked fine. I did a urine and blood test as well. She got the urine sample results back while I was there and told me the one of my kidney levels were reading as if I were diabetic and told me to make sure I ate everyday even if I ate in small portions.
I took nitrofurantoin for a UTI infection and finished my course on Tuesday morning. Yesterday (Friday), I noticed what appears to be hives (small raised bumps with no redness, they didn’t itch) on my legs. I counted 13 - primarily on my thighs and shins. They appear to be gone today, but after I took my puppy for a walk this morning, I noticed small red bumps on my feet and they itched. Is this an allergic reaction to the antibiotics?

I know this was a long time ago, but I feel like I'm experiencing the neurological side effects of nitrofurantoin. It's not just a tingling in my hands, my muscles spasm and tremor in the night time. I am jolted awake sometimes. There's a fuzziness in my head that comes and goes and makes me feel like I'm going to convulse. I'm terrified that this is irreversible.
