I had a UTI when I was pregnant with my first and they prescribed medicine, unsure which one, but I didn't take it.
I went to the er yesterday and they told me it was open and I'm now on bed rest. the doc that gave the meds to me was at a er that doesn't deal with pregnant women but they didn't tell me until after being their over five hours.

I know I'm probably a little late, but I just saw your post. I am a 40 year urology patient. Trust me...there's an underlying cause! Your best bet would be to see a good Urologist. As far as how long you might have to treat this...well, it depends on the cause. Some bladder issues may be quickly resolvable, some are not, but all but the very, very worst can be managed. I too have to take Nitrofurantoin Macrocrystals after intercourse as a prophylactic.
I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI. I have a hard time swallowing pills. Can these be broken up?
It also says that the colony count of the bacteris is 1,00,000 cfu/ml. Hence, doctor prescribed some medicines like Uribid with nitrofurantoin in it, Prothiaden M, Montemac FX for allergy and Hifenac-P for fever and also Cital syrup for UTI. My mother continued the course for one week, now fever and tiredness have decreased, but the burning sensation continues. Is this mixture of tablets fine, or any other suggestion or recommendations for treating this urinary tract infection of K.Oxytoca.
PS -- I neglected to say that Macrodantin is the brand name of generic nitrofurantoin, which is the name used in the information above.
A couple of weeks later I developed a urinary tract infection. Urologist prescribed nitrofurantoin for the infection. Immediatedly after starting the antibiotic my ears gradually starting feeling clogged. Now, two weeks later, they are both very clogged (no wax buildup) and I can barely hear. Logic tells me the ear clogging is somehow connected to the nitrofurantoin. Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this happening? Will this clogging go away by itself?

I know this was a long time ago, but I feel like I'm experiencing the neurological side effects of nitrofurantoin. It's not just a tingling in my hands, my muscles spasm and tremor in the night time. I am jolted awake sometimes. There's a fuzziness in my head that comes and goes and makes me feel like I'm going to convulse. I'm terrified that this is irreversible.
At 15 weeks pregnant I had a really high white blood cell count in my urine. My gyne suggested that I have a UTI. I had no symptoms thereof. I was put on nitrofurantoin for 7days. I finished the course and now 3 days after I finished the antibiotics I tested my urine and the leukocytes/white blood cells are still very high.
What other infections/circumstances can cause this? I am very concerned as I only can reach my Dr. on Monday.
I have recently been feeling unwell and have recurring UTI’s and been on Nitrofurantoin. I also take levothyroxine for an under active thyroid.

I have visited the doctor 3times and the last tested I did. He told I had almost nothing in terms of UTI and in my partner there was an indication that she had UTI, and we were both put on medication, but after the medication, I still feel the pain. Hi I had sex a few weeks ago and within 24 hours I had erection problems and testes shrunk . I did a gonorrea and chlamedia test both were negative . I had blood in my urine +3 not seen by the naked eye.
The doctor could see no infection so she made me do a kidney function blood test. The kidney blood test was fine . So I read online that blood can give me a Uti.
Since taking the Nitrofurantoin, my back pain comes and goes, jumps in severity, sometimes subtle, sometimes severe, my penis seems a little sore (mainly urethra) and testicle area too. Very mild though. I also get sweats (like a hot flush), shakes, random sharp itches and mild tingling in my hands. Perhaps these are side effects of the medication? I’ve read a few are possible.
As I say, urine samples all appeared normal. All blood tests also show no concern to any bodily functions.
short duration course of a basic antibiotic such as nitrofurantoin may be suggested in low grade infection. With the part history of chronic infections, the dose/ duration of the antibiotic may not be irrelevant in the scenario; though in the current situation, treating the primary cause i.e. the fistula may be suggested, to avoid complications.

Hi, Its is common for patients who have Interstitial Cystitis to have a few real urinary tract infections in the past, then start to have symptoms with no infection in the urine. White blood cells in the urine don't necessarily mean infection and needs a workup if the cultures are negative. A urine culture is key rule in or rule out the infection. If there is no infection by the culture but you still have symptoms you may have IC.
My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex twice in the course of 24 hours (came in me twice) and I then found out I had a UTI three days later. The nurse prescribed me nitrofurantoin twice daily for a week. On the third day or so I had bouts of brown discharge that resembled menstrual blood but I wasn't supposed to have my period till the following week. I'm on the pill; so far it has been 5 days of the placebo and I haven't bled.
I’ve been suffering from IC for 5 years now and for some odd reason Nitrofurantoin/Macrobid seems to work well for me, even when my urine culture comes back negative. I take it (100 mg X 2 for 10 days) when my IC flares and within a few days the symptoms are essentially gone. They often come back 3-5 months later, but at least it works temporarily.
My doctors have no idea why this medication works, but it’s been working pretty consistently for the past 3-4 years now.
I haven't had a uti while pregnant. Are you concerned it isn't the right one? I'm a nurse, if you tell me what he/she gave you I can tell you if (to my knowledge) if its common and what class of is... also look into cranberry juice or pills.
t clear up my initial UTI, then it took the dr a week to get my labs in for my next sample which came back positive for e. coli. In the meantime the bacteria had a week to multiply w/o antibiotics. I'm now on nitrofurantoin and still have trouble emptying my bladder. Over the course of the medication I've noticed burning when I pee (a symptom I didn't have until a few days ago)- today it's pretty bad and tomorrow is my last day of medication. Has anyone else had a resistant UTI?
I know how hard it is to stand on ur feet. Like with me my iron is low and I can't take the pills it makes me sick. But because of that I get dizzy and have passed out before while standing in line. I think other women might have the same problem so I let them in front of me. It's not special treatment its being thoughtful!
