Niaspan low blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Niaspan low blood pressure

niaspan

Avatar n tn Well, when you worry your blood pressure will go up. It feeds on itself. There's a new study out that showed Niacin can reverse stenosis (blockages). The intake was rather high but it's now clinically proven. A statin, like liptor or zocor can also reverse stenosis. If I were you I'd be thinking about all the ways the blockages can be reversed and attack it from all fronts. Medication, niacin, diet, exercise, lose weight if you have to.
Avatar m tn insulin resistance, obesity (especially abdominal obesity), high blood pressure, abnormalities in blood clotting, and lipid abnormalities. I understand your concern over statin side effects, but ALL drugs have side effects. Your doctor will weigh the benefit and risk to recommend the best treatment for your situation. A statin makes sense from what I read in your story.
Avatar m tn I take Niaspan which is an extended release form of niacin. Niaspan will decrease your LDL and triglycerides and increase your HDL. I would not change your niacin dose w/o talking to your doctor about it. Decreasing the dosage could decrease your HDL. I was taking 1500 mg of Niaspan at one point for about 7 months My HDL was around 42-44 for 3 measurements. It then drop to 32. My cardiologist immediately bumped my Nispan dosage to 2000 mg and my HDL went to 50 a year later.
Avatar m tn I cannot find any literature on the matter. Niaspan will certainly address the low HDL. However, can you clarify whether (1) Niaspan would treat fatty liver and (2) is Niaspan's use contradicted with those diagnosed with fatty liver disease?
Avatar n tn My HDL/LDL ratio is good so should I worry about it. HDL alone is a risk factor I know. Blood Pressure is good and Tachycardia is mostly under control. I can exercise and get heart rate to 160, but not much above that which is good. Would it be good to switch to help raise HDL or should I stick with the Beta Blocker?
Avatar n tn Your blood pressure needs to come down right away. Call your doctor if your blood pressure is still 168/110. Blood pressure of 110 can cause stroke. My husband had blood pressure of 157/100 and was sent home from work and told to go to bed and relax until he could be seen by his doctor. He works at a college where there are nurses to take blood pressure. You need to have heart testing done to see why the sudden change and if anything happened to your heart to be bringing on these symptoms.
Avatar n tn 3/07/08: blood work (non-fasting) : CRP 5.16, CHOL 194, HDL 44, LDL 120, triglyceride 179 9/20/05: blood work (fasting): CHOL 188, HDL 65, LDL 109, triglyceride 68 6/30/04: blood work (fasting): CRP < 1.0, CHOL 188, HDL 65, LDL 106, triglyceride 65 I do not like the trends I am seeing. My new PCP doctor (endocrinologist) is specifically concerned about CRP reading in conjunction w/history of heart disease in my family.
Avatar m tn I have already had one bad experience with another statin, Advicor, that resulted in me having permanent lymphedema in my ankles and legs. Now I am unsure about Niaspan. I would appreciate any comments on Niaspan please. Thanks.
Avatar m tn Family history of cardiac disease, father died at age 36 from stroke related to high blood pressure. My history before MI I received 6 stents due to blockage of 80% in 2 arteries, LAD i believe, in 2006.These were what is called kissing stents since they were placed back to back on both sides of the "widow maker".I was on asprin 325 mg, toporol xl 25mg 1 tab daily, lipitor 40mg 1 tab daily, lisinopril 10mg daily, plavix 75mg 1 tab daily.VAP scores were 110 total 60 LDL and 40HDL.
Avatar n tn My MD & I have been trying for about 5 years now to raise my HDL (I have family history w/father dying of heart attack at 48) .Niaspan only raised it nominally, & now he wants to try Crestor.....Are statins good for raising HDL?...If one can keep their LDL down low enough say under 80, is HDL still significant?....Except for HDL, my other numbers are good...I'm non-smoker, & ideal weight, & active.....
Avatar f tn Thank you!
5727805 tn?1378193052 Maybe your locking your knees when u stand. I've never heard of eating more salt.
12182312 tn?1427683956 ve learned about blood pressure about the past year though that 112 / 70 is not too low and some might even say it's ideal to have those numbers. You can always ask your doctor for more information but as I understand, unless your numbers go below 80 / 50 or you're fainting your blood pressure is not too low. Good luck!
Avatar f tn t give me anything they just want to check me sooner and if my blood pressure is still low they will take me for a c section that day ! I told him I've been feeling really tired and weak lately, he said if it keeps on going or gets worse to call him ASAP !
Avatar f tn (Laying on your back during pregnancy compresses a blood vessel that causes your blood pressure to drop) This happens so often, it has me worried. What can i do to raise my blood pressure? It makes me so tired when i have these "episodes". I lay on my left side when it happens, to get my blood circulating better, and I've even tried elevating my legs above my heart. I also drink plenty of water, and I've even increased my intake recently. What can i do? And is it bad for baby?
Avatar f tn I have low blood pressure to. The doctor didn't seem worried. They told me to eat protein foods and salty foods! My sister had had low pressure with all her babies and they are all healthy! Good luck!
