Avatar n tn it's usually used to remove toxins from your body. Usuallly through your poors the toxins will be excreted.
Avatar n tn As time passed I realized a lessening of body aches so I decided not to go back on the Zocor. It has now been 5 months since I have taken Zocor. Meanwhile, I have been losing weight (about 5 pounds) without changing my diet. I realized that my pants were baggy in the thighs and seat. I am skinny and don't need to lose weight at all. What I have lost is muscle.
Avatar m tn By contrast, slow-release niacin preparations reduce the hot-flush effect by releasing niacin over an extended period of 12 hours or longer. Most of these preparations are unsafe and I do not recommend them. “No-flush” niacin preparations, such as inositol hexaniacinate and nicotinamide, are widely sold as niacin alternatives that do not cause hot flushes. In my experience, however, they simply do not work. In other words, no flush, no effect.

Avatar m tn t have enough self control to lose any weight. I had muscle pain and memory loss with statins, flushing and finally facial swelling with niacin supplements. The memory loss was so bad, I sold my veterinary practice and retired BEFORE the lawsuit. I ran for exercise until I wore out my left knee, now I walk. Again, these labs are before any medication.
Avatar n tn Hello, You are right in saying that statins may cause memory loss. Statin drugs cause terrible side effects for some users, including mental confusion, memory loss and a general loss of mental focus. The cardiovascular benefits of statins are well established, but the effects of these agents on the human brain are not as well established. The more lipid-soluble the statin, the greater propensity it has to cross the blood-brain barrier and affect the central nervous system.
Avatar m tn Gee, thanks for noticing, "Jack". I actually LOST a bet over in weight-loss and dieting!!! I'm 3lbs OVER for the bet (big day is TODAY). Looks like I'm gonna have to make a clown video and post it on YouTube. Ugh. Unless, I can "forget" to do it, eh? BTW, where were you with the 5 weight-loss supplements that really work when I needed them??? JK!

Avatar f tn It does say in med info that it can cause weight gain or loss. I wish it was the loss!!!!!!!
Avatar n tn May be time to try behavioral modification (if available) or other more aggressive weight loss methods -- there are no medications that will be safe/effective for this problem.
Avatar f tn That said, your TSH appears high and combined with your symptoms of weight gain, tiredness, memory loss and dry skin I would say you are hypothyroid and need to start on medication for that. You may want to see a specialist (an Endocrinologist) experienced with treating thyroid disorders. Don't delay treating this. The thyroid impacts pretty much your whole body and if it isn't functioning correctly, you are going to have extensive issues that will only get worse.
Avatar n tn I have cut out most coffee, sodas (although I usually drink diet) and alcohol. I usually have at least one drink per day. The weight loss is what is scaring me so badly. I don't know if it could be the dietary changes with the stress or if I am truly sick with something like cancer. I so desperately am afraid of dying and leaving my kids to grow up without a mom. They are my life. Does anyone have any similar experience?
Avatar f tn I am suspicious of any diet pill for long term weight loss. You could ask your doctor for a referral to a dietician if this is a possibility. That's what I did. The dietician was very helpful. Don't know if this is true, but I've heard diet pills can be dangerous because of the ingredients in the diet pills. I'm not familiar with slimquick or slimquick hoodia but as I mentioned I am suspicious of all diet pills. Loosing weight too quickly is also not good.
Avatar m tn Having Chromium and Niacin listed as separate ingredients would not be the same as Chromium Picolinate. Separately, (Niacin would be niacin and Chromium would be Chromium plus one of the chelators). It can get very confusing, but with all of that said, per the National Institute of Health "...given the limited data on chromium absorption in humans, it is not clear which forms are best to take.
1063764 tn?1272821064 I was watching a documentary and heard about a case where a woman was put on niacin supplements for depression. She was taking very large dosages, but it completely pulled her out of her depression. So far fluoxetine has helped me, but I think in time I will need a larger dosage. I would really rather not do that, so my question is: is it safe to take niacin supplements of 100 mg daily plus an extra multivitamin with 20mg. I don't want to end up taking too many vitamins.
Avatar f tn Assuming she means fast instant weight loss as fast progressing fat loss all in a pill. THe leading effect of both prescription and over the counter medication is decreasing appetite. All the medications that increase metabolism by increasing body temperature are illegal in the US. Pretty much in people that choose not to watch their diets yet want to take a pill to lose weight, taking a multi vitamin will be effective.
Avatar n tn I have PCOS too and I have been put on Metformin which helps with weight loss. People with PCOS have a higher insulin levels which decreases your female hormones and increases the male hormones which cause the hair growth and scattered periods. These are things that you know about but with increased insulin levels your body does not process the food correctly and tends to hold onto it which is why I gained weight! Metformin is for glucose patients and that is why it helps PCOS patients.
1135275 tn?1586565652 I wouldn't use metamucil because of the additives, and I would never use it regularly because the body gets used to laxatives and doesn't digest well anymore on its own. Gymdandee gave better advice with cholesterol by suggesting oat bran, because for cholesterol what you want is soluble fiber -- metamucil and psyllium are mostly insoluble, for digestion, not for cholesterol reduction. Other good sources of this fiber are beans and rice bran.
