Avatar f tn I would check and see if it's a side effect of the meds. I asked about the niacin because that's the effect it produces. That's also a lot of milk, given most humans can't utilize the stuff well. But I'd go with the meds and see if maybe that's the source. It could, for example, be the trazadone wearing off, or just a side effect of it. Meds for sleep interfere with normal patterns of sleep and can cause a lot of unusual effects.
Avatar n tn Niacin is a B vitamin and is used in reducing cholesterol. A common side effect of Niacin is flushing. The flushing makes your skin red in color and sometimes warm to the touch. Sometimes, taking an aspirin before taking the niacin can prevent the flushing. Don't do this without discussing it with your doctor. Drinking hot drinks or alcohol can also increase the flushing, so it is best to avoid these when taking the niacin. Also, niacin should not be taken with certain drugs.

Avatar m tn Outcome and Management Niacin hepatotoxicity appears to be dose dependent and more common with the sustained release form of the drug. Hepatotoxicity is less common with regular, crystalline niacin or extended release niacin. Most cases are mild and resolve rapidly upon stopping the medication, although in some instances, the injury is acute and severe and progresses to liver failure that is fatal or requires emergency liver transplantation.

463841 tn?1207438535 Hello. Well, I had a question.. I've been hearing and reading a lot of posts from people about their experiences with the Niacinamide supplement, and how effective it seems to be with people suffering from anxiety. I just got myself the thing.. but I'm having thoughts on whether to take it or not. I'm currently on Xanax a .5 mg every night. So even if I did consider taking Niacinamide, it wouldn't be advisable to take it while I'm on Xanax at the same time would it?
Avatar m tn Did you try the Niacin with aspirin to reduce side effects taken at bedtime? Niacin can do wonders on the LDL especially when there may be a corkscrew like protein attached to it and no amount of statin, diet or lifestyle change will impact the LDL but Niacin will. It is referred to as LPa and can be done in some advanced lipid testing. That alone may change and further define what you need to be on.
519736 tn?1253986826 I have no knowledge of these medications, but did look up side effects of statins. If it does happen to be a side effect, how long should he wait to see if this pain resolves itself after stopping the lipitor....any help is appreciated.
1495437 tn?1288798915 s being marketed at a beauty drug/cosmetic additive. Anyways, try low doses of niacin, turmeric, green tea, healthy foods, any kind of antioxidants you can get, bromelin, (pineapple too!) and some collagen supplements to help aid in repairing the skin. If you're terrified of the niacin you can try all that w/o it, the turmeric will help slot on it's own, but better combined. Anyways, goodluck!
Avatar n tn I understand your concern, but after much research concerning the side effects of statins meds, PVC's are not a listed side effect. In fact, statin use has been studied in exercise induced PVC trials and have been shown to reduce the incidence of PVCs due to exercise so it would stand to reason that they also do not affect normal heart rhythm. Having said that, your PVCs may be anxiety related to statin use.
475570 tn?1280941363 I just want to add that this was a study of Niaspan - the time release version of Niacin - and not Niacin.
Avatar f tn "Potentially serious side effects * Liver damage. Occasionally, statin use causes an increase in liver enzymes. If the increase is only mild, you can continue to take the drug. If the increase is severe, you may need to stop taking it, which usually reverses the problem. If left unchecked, increased liver enzymes can lead to permanent liver damage.
345079 tn?1299202476 So a few months back my doctor told me I needed to take Niacin(vitamin B3 in high doses basically) so I tried it. Well it has the worst side effects ever. It causes major flushing, itching, burning of the skin. I felt horrible and started to panic pretty badly. Never took it again. I saw my doctor yesterday and she told me I have to take it so she prescribed Niapan which is basically the same thing but in an extended release.
Avatar m tn Side effects from statins do not normally start until 90 days after use and the risk of side effects are less than 1%. Is your doctor sure it's the statins or is he taking a shot in the dark? On a side note, a study was done to measure the side effect rate in 19,000 people, half on a statin and half on a placebo. It was interesting to find that the rate of muscle and joint pain reported was identical by both groups.
