Avatar m tn My cardiologist has prescribed an increasing dosing regimen of colestipol granules to help lower my LDL level. Here are my last two most current labs from before I started the colestipol. I eat a lower fat diet, exercise by walking 40 minutes 5-6 times per week, don't smoke, control borderline hypertension with 5mg lisinopril daily, have a BMI of 30 but don't have enough self control to lose any weight.

L-phenylalanine (or however you spell it) and L-Tyrosine were others that seemed to help with the head. I was always cautious about taking too much for too long of a time, etc.--protein balance. As a matter of fact, before I had this Graves' thing, Niacin--B3--used to be a REAL help to me.

From what I have read, as far as niacin goes, only high-dose niacin (such as prescription Niaspan) will have an effect on HDL and you must be monitored with blood tests to make sure there is no ensuing liver damage. Good luck... I have the HDL same problem.

What I've found the best way to lose weight is to find your maintenance level (you can find a rough calculator online) that will tell you about how many calories you burn in an avg day. Subtract around 250 calories and you've found your ideal calorie amount! Keep in mind you should take exercise into account as well. You should be shooting around -2 lbs a week.
