niaspan

Avatar m tn You can consume alcohol and spicy foods apart from your use of niacinfor example, having a glass of wine at 7 p.m. and then taking niacin at 9 p.m. Only a few people will have more flushing due to the combination.
718651 tn?1237042917 niacin is a vitamin b complex, and it helps boost your cholesterol(hdl)i dont know if it will help with your situation.are you trying to pass a drug test or are you trying to lessen the withdrawals.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your prompt reply. I take 50 mg. Trrazodone, for sleep. My only other medication is Maxzide. I am not intentionally taking a lot of niacin. My multi-vitamin lists 20 mg. As far as I know my diat does not include an unusually high amount of niacin. I do eat bran cereal and drink about 4 8-oz. glasses of milk a day.
Tbd What is the purpose of the niacin and should a niacin supplement be administered if the medication does not contain niacin?
Avatar f tn The point isn't really the glass of wine but the buzz. I realized with a buzz, I wasn't in a good place to care for my baby. So, no buzz for me. good luck (this is not to say that if you have a good support system and a mom or MIL will baby sit over night or your spouse will be the sober one that you cant ever partake again . . . but 'someone' has to be sober for a baby at all times).
Avatar m tn I'm 52 and have never have had high liver enzymes. Took 500 mg of Slo Niacin for about a month between 12/15/13 and 1/15/14 and ALT went from 36 to 60, AST from 39 to 63, and GGT from about low 30's to 110!! based on blood testing done 1/15/14. Previous normal liver bloodwork from chemistry profile was from physical back in late July of 2013. Only a social drinker (few beers on weekend).
Avatar n tn s cholesterol used to clock in at about 270 and he had the same reservations as your husband about drugs - niacin has worked very well for him - his cholesterol is now sub 150 and has been for 10+ years). You could say that extended release niacin is sort of a drug in itself but btw that and a statin I'd personally try the niacin first.
1063764 tn?1272821064 I was watching a documentary and heard about a case where a woman was put on niacin supplements for depression. She was taking very large dosages, but it completely pulled her out of her depression. So far fluoxetine has helped me, but I think in time I will need a larger dosage. I would really rather not do that, so my question is: is it safe to take niacin supplements of 100 mg daily plus an extra multivitamin with 20mg. I don't want to end up taking too many vitamins.
600301 tn?1219689156 Whereas there is a strong link between low HDL and risk for cardiac death and heart attacks, there is very little evidence that increasing it with drugs ( appart from gemfibrozil and Niacin) actually improves patient's mortality.
1495437 tn?1288798915 Hey, so Actually... I would recommend niacin to make them go away. Lol, sorry, reallly touchy subject. But it sounds like you took way too much the first time, If you take doses of 100mg and slowly build your way up you should be fine, I don't know who you got it from the first time, but It really doesn't sound like there was a lot of research done before.
Avatar n tn He said that it was absurd to think that a five year study could demonstrate such a link, that it takes longer for a drug to cause cancer. I have to assume that he also thinks its absurd to think that it would only take five years for a drug to cause a cancer that was 'dormant' to become active (detectable). Do you agree?
1135275 tn?1586565652 t yield a lot of niacin. Niacin will also give you a hot flush on your skin, unless you buy a non-flush niacin, which is usually, again, niacinamide. Niacin is usually used for the heart. If you're staying on your meds, I'd recommend you get a Stress B formula instead, which will have niacin in it, as well as the other Bs essential for mental health including B12, folate, thiamine, and B6.
Avatar n tn The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day.(Max 60 min/day) Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
Avatar n tn Why not ask your doctor for a prescription for a statin medicine? You can get the drug for $4.00 a month or less, and it's much less invasive than Niaspan, in my opinion. I tried Niaspan years ago, it wasn't effective, and I would get a huge 'blushing' feeling, my face would flush and I would be miserable. Statin drugs are very safe and in my opinion, very effective.
Avatar n tn I just received the results of the Berkley Heart Profile. My father died of CAD at the age of 46. My mother had a coronary artery blockage that was repaired at age 75. I'm a 54 yr. old healthy female non smoker, low BP, 5'5''/128 lb.and live a healthy lifestyle (exercise and diet). My Lp(a) was 114, very high and a fibrinogen of 475. I also see that the LDL particles are primarily large. I plan on a stress test and obtaining a good cardiologist.
Avatar n tn the question is i was admitted in the hospital for passing out and e regular heart beat and they ran test and took blood and they found cocaine in my blood wwork and i do not smoke or drink and i need to now can someone help me?
Avatar m tn I assume you are wanting to know for sports reasons, there would be absolutely no issue with Advair on an employment test. Asthma steroids are corticosteroids. Drug testing for sports are looking for anabolic (sp?) steroids. So you will be fine. If you have been on oral prednisone, there could be a problem if you are close to a competition. You should talk this over with your dr so that they know your concerns about passing drug tests and keep you away from them.
Avatar f tn hi wow that's a lot to carry, try a niacin flush (not with time release) do it the old fashion way ,put on cotton and get ready to burn up, don't worry it don't last long ,you will get red too if it to much a cool shower will help, what it does is remove built up toxics in the body I am not a professional but you know one thing its coming from inside of you ,please be loving and kind to yourself you have been thought a lot ...
725248 tn?1316162245 When I applied for a part time position (that I could perform) I told them that I had a perscription for a narcotic and I knew it would show up on my drug test. I told them I could provide them with documentation from my physician regarding the narcotic if they so required. I did not tell them why I took the narcotic and they did not ask. Good judgement call on their part. My test did show the use of prescribed narcotic, they did not ask for a physicians documentation and I got hired.
Avatar m tn valve replacement 2001, redid bypasses. I was on 40mg Lipitor and 500mg no-flush niacin for a number of years with moderate sucess. I subscribe to the Cleveland Clinic Heart Newsletter. In the July 2007 issue there was suggestion that 1,500mg niacin was a good statin supplement. Starting in July 2007 I followed this suggestion, taking 1,500mg slow-release niacin with the Lipitor. I have biannual blood tests.
5142668 tn?1364230745 That being said does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to help through these withdrawals without having to take a different kind of drug. This is making me feel like a drug addict trying to get clean. I have 4 kids at home and need to be able to function properly. HELP!!! PLEASE!!!!!
Avatar f tn Well if the laxatives do not work, I definitely suggest going to the doctor or the ER tomorrow as a week is a long time to not have a bowel movement for a 31 year old, and could indicate an impaction ofr obstruction. If you have severe bronchitis coughing can be pretty rough and can seem like it's hurting your insides, which sometimes it can. But like you said, right now the most important concern right now is having a bowel movement.
Avatar n tn each per day for about 30 years. I adjusted to the typical niacin flush- only getting it after not eating a lot, but for 3 months now, I have had a rash on my upper chest and neck, as well as my wrists and forearms. This has been accompanied by anal burning/itching and a general feeling in body of having eaten too much pepper.
