Niacin and passing a drug test

Common Questions and Answers about Niacin and passing a drug test

niaspan

Avatar m tn You can consume alcohol and spicy foods apart from your use of niacin—for example, having a glass of wine at 7 p.m. and then taking niacin at 9 p.m. Only a few people will have more flushing due to the combination.
718651 tn?1237042917 niacin is a vitamin b complex, and it helps boost your cholesterol(hdl)i dont know if it will help with your situation.are you trying to pass a drug test or are you trying to lessen the withdrawals.
Tbd What is the purpose of the niacin and should a niacin supplement be administered if the medication does not contain niacin?
Avatar f tn I am 28weeks along now and I havent smoked in a few weeks and am passing my drug tests. I am due march 30th and was just wondering if anyone knew if I am passing my drug tests then my baby is alo right? Or could it still be in my babies system also?
Avatar m tn If the injury occurred after switching to a SR formulation, the crystalline form of niacin may be restarted at a lower dose and with caution. See: http://livertox.nih.gov/Niacin.
Avatar n tn I would cut all SR niacin and replace it with IR niacin. IR is much easier on the liver. You may want to take a couple of weeks off to let your liver recover and then titrate back up to where you left off at your reduced dosage. IR niacin is in and out of your system quickly, allowing your liver to recover from dealing with it. The SR hangs around so your liver must deal with it for extended periods of time, not giving it much time to rest.
463841 tn?1207438535 While niacin is not a drug I encounter often at the hospital, I know that many doctors have us withold this med, especially in patients with cardiovascular issues. Quite a few years ago, while I was browsing the shelves in a health food store, the clerk asked me what I was looking for. I told him I had severe panic disorder and he immediately recommended that I take large doses of niacin, as he said it's good for people with anxiety problems.
479244 tn?1271563659 (uh oh) Anyway, I checked and found that someone with liver disease (I have mild inflamation and no fibrosis) should not take over 35 mgs. of niacin per day. This stuff I bought at the drug store has 25 mgs. of niacin. Is is all they had , but I am thinking about returning it. IYO - is it safe for me to take this or should I return and look for plain ol B12 liquid.
Avatar n tn s cholesterol used to clock in at about 270 and he had the same reservations as your husband about drugs - niacin has worked very well for him - his cholesterol is now sub 150 and has been for 10+ years). You could say that extended release niacin is sort of a drug in itself but btw that and a statin I'd personally try the niacin first.
600301 tn?1219689156 Whereas there is a strong link between low HDL and risk for cardiac death and heart attacks, there is very little evidence that increasing it with drugs ( appart from gemfibrozil and Niacin) actually improves patient's mortality.
1495437 tn?1288798915 re not allergic, but if you use the niacin in a low dose regimen, it should help, and also helps heal past sundamage and increase ceramide production. Look at NIA24, for pharmacalogical info, it's niacin that's being marketed at a beauty drug/cosmetic additive. Anyways, try low doses of niacin, turmeric, green tea, healthy foods, any kind of antioxidants you can get, bromelin, (pineapple too!) and some collagen supplements to help aid in repairing the skin.
Avatar n tn I am Ricky7023. I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you. Either the system or I screwed up. I couldn't get back in under Ricky7023 (forgot the password, couldn't get the system to send me another). The drug in question is Niaspan and the person saying the study couldn't have shown a link between the drug and cancer was a cariologist who wanted to proscribe the niaspan. I don't know that any of that matters, of course.
Avatar f tn As far as I know my diat does not include an unusually high amount of niacin. I do eat bran cereal and drink about 4 8-oz. glasses of milk a day.
Avatar n tn Niacin can also raise blood sugar levels in some cases. Taking the drug during or after the meals can help people to develop a tolerance to flushing and to sometimes decrease it. While you are on niacin, the effect of high blood pressure medicines may also be increased. It is important to set up a blood pressure monitoring system while you are getting used to the niacin regimen, if you are taking high blood pressure medication. But do not take both niacin and atorvastatin.
Avatar n tn Why not ask your doctor for a prescription for a statin medicine? You can get the drug for $4.00 a month or less, and it's much less invasive than Niaspan, in my opinion. I tried Niaspan years ago, it wasn't effective, and I would get a huge 'blushing' feeling, my face would flush and I would be miserable. Statin drugs are very safe and in my opinion, very effective.
Avatar n tn I just received the results of the Berkley Heart Profile. My father died of CAD at the age of 46. My mother had a coronary artery blockage that was repaired at age 75. I'm a 54 yr. old healthy female non smoker, low BP, 5'5''/128 lb.and live a healthy lifestyle (exercise and diet). My Lp(a) was 114, very high and a fibrinogen of 475. I also see that the LDL particles are primarily large. I plan on a stress test and obtaining a good cardiologist.
Avatar n tn the question is i was admitted in the hospital for passing out and e regular heart beat and they ran test and took blood and they found cocaine in my blood wwork and i do not smoke or drink and i need to now can someone help me?
Avatar m tn That might depend on what dosage you are on. The lower dosage shouldn't show up at all while the highest dose may show up with trace amounts. At any of the dosages the amount of steroid you are getting is so small and the medicine goes directly where it is needed that very little if any can make it into your blood streem. I assume you are wanting to know for sports reasons, there would be absolutely no issue with Advair on an employment test. Asthma steroids are corticosteroids.
Avatar f tn Niacin in most people causes the face to flush/blush. No flush Niacin is readily available OTC. A word of caution, however, Niacin is a B3 and B3's are known to elevate blood sugars. Test your bs often and on a regular basis.
Avatar m tn I was told to avoid niacin, excess vitamin C, along with marijuana and alcohol by my liver clinic. Risk and the way liver handles excess niacin outweighed benefit though certainly getting adequate amounts by use of a NO iron multiple vitamin would be fine. Statins have so many contraindications they will probably never pass muster for liver patients.
Avatar n tn If you stopped smoking pot in july, you will not have any problem passing a drug test. In most cases, pot is out of your system in about 30 days. You have nothing to be worried about. Congratulations on your clean time.
Avatar f tn hi wow that's a lot to carry, try a niacin flush (not with time release) do it the old fashion way ,put on cotton and get ready to burn up, don't worry it don't last long ,you will get red too if it to much a cool shower will help, what it does is remove built up toxics in the body I am not a professional but you know one thing its coming from inside of you ,please be loving and kind to yourself you have been thought a lot ...
Avatar m tn Call it mind over matter or whatever but I started taking Niacin and inositol last week. I have felt a steady improvement in my mood and anxiety levels each day. I have been taking a B Complex, 100 mg everyday for the past 2 months. The Niacin I take is 400 mg so that is a 500 mg/day dose. Yesterday I bumped up to 400 mg in the AM and 400 at night. There is definely an improvement that I feel. i am not 100% yet but I feel better than I did a week ago.
Avatar f tn if you can try the slo release formula and make sure you take with food.. I use and research a lot of alternate treatments.. Niacin has the propensity to flare up causing those exacerbated feelings also your scalp may feel like its on fire too.. You should be ok and if it doesn't go away seek medical treatment ..
Avatar n tn Also, if your tricor is not as effective as it should be, adding 250mg of niacin a day makes a dramatic difference. I had lipid levels over 1000 and sometimes up to 3000 while on tricor for years. After a well informed NEW Dr. told me to add the Niacin, my levels dropped to 130-160 range immediately and never go up. Saved my life! A $5 bottle of Niacin!
Avatar m tn valve replacement 2001, redid bypasses. I was on 40mg Lipitor and 500mg no-flush niacin for a number of years with moderate sucess. I subscribe to the Cleveland Clinic Heart Newsletter. In the July 2007 issue there was suggestion that 1,500mg niacin was a good statin supplement. Starting in July 2007 I followed this suggestion, taking 1,500mg slow-release niacin with the Lipitor. I have biannual blood tests.
Avatar n tn said that he would consider changing from Lipitor 5 mg to Crestor (dosage not yet mentioned) after 1 more blood test. 3 years ago another dr. suggested a change, but cardiologist said no need to. Another Dr. (forum) suggested using, in addition to Fish oil for tri-glycerides, niacin. And he said statin users should take CO-enzyme Q 300 mg.
Avatar f tn One after each meal and when you start going diahrea just cut back down to 2 or 1 tablet per day. Next add Niacin and fish pills and WALK because walking, niacin, and magnesium have cured my Proctitis. And Proctitis is the same as Chrons in the rectal area.. Magnesium and Niacin are like wonder drugs when it comes to IBD. Just give them 6 months and a year to really start enjoying life again. Check this from Merck on Niacin DEFICIENCY and GI tract in Chrons and UC I guess.....
