So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me.
I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?).
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
I was given samples of Nexium to try for two weeks. At the end of the trial, I did not notice any improvement. I also had developed new problems of bloating, especially just to the left of my "six-pack". When I sat down, it felt like something was being crushed or pinched in my abdomen also had pain under my solar plexus and across my abdomen just under my rib cage. I had a lot of belching and gas while on Nexium.
I have had acid reflux for years now and i have been taking meds for it. My doctor told me I need to try to ween myself off of the medicine (zegerid, because nexium and a million other meds dont woork). I tried doing that and I still keep getting heartburn no matter what. I have gotten the endoscopy several times and the doctors just say that the bottom of my esophagus is not tight, which gives me G.E.R.D. I can't deal with this anymore.
There is no 'safer.' It depends on which one works better for you. They don't all work by a completely similar mode of action. So you'll have to try to find the one that works and gives you the fewer side-effects.
I went to my GI doctor and told him about it and he just told me to keep taking my Nexium 40mg. I told him that I take it everyday without fail. I showd him were the pain was and he just said, I think its your intestines. I had a endoscopy and he said, I had Barrett's esophagus and a Hiatal hernia and left it at that. I had to talk to a friend who said that I might have IBS.
I have had an endoscopy, barium swallow and motility test ran and the GI specialists all said everything came back normal. They have given me nexium, zegerid, reglan and domperidone to try and help with it but none have helped. I do not get any acid indigestion or feeling of going to choke on my food it just simply comes back up for hours after I eat. I have tried chewing my food completely up b/f swallowing and cutting back on my size of meals but nothing helps.....
Last week during the night I awoke and it felt as is my stomach, esophagus and throat were on fire. I went to my Dr. who prescribed Nexium for what she thought was GERD. She also drew some labs. I have taken the Nexium since Sat which has helped a little along with diet modification. Today they called and my lipase was elevated at only 70. She said I should have a Gall Bladder UltraSound done and if that is normal then to procede with a HydaScan.

They occur within 5 minutes of eating and can last up to 30 minutes. After the gagging/coughing stops, he is extremely tired, to the point of having to take a nap. We are at a loss as to the cause. After having two stents in a right artery almost three years ago, recently suffering from a burning chest pain that increased with exertion and a cardiac catheterization that indicated no progression of the heart disease, I was diagnosed to be suffering from esophageal spasms and was prescribed Nexium.
After 2 endoscopies, I was told I had a hiatal hernia. I have been taking Zegerid 40mg on and off for a few years. There are days where I will not have any symptoms and other days where I doubt it is my hernia because it gets really bad. These past few days have been horrible. I take the Zegerid and I am still suffering from pains I am unfamiliar with. I feel as though my breathing has gotten difficult and that I cannot get in enough air.
I started taking Nexium 8 years ago for acid reflux, prescribed by a physician. At first i took 2-3 40mg pills a week. Then gradually progressed to 40mg every day. If i skipped a day my reflux was intolerable. Was diagnosed with hiatal hernia in 2004 by a gastroenterologist. Then I became sick with bronchitis and needed to take an antibiotic and had to stop taking the Zegerid for about a week. Upon continuing the Zegerid I have had increasing typical acid reflux symptoms, to the point of waking me up at night. So I called my doc and started taking another Zegerid during the day, and taking Gaviscon before bed... this really hasn't helped. I notice that when I sit for a long period I get a build up of gas in my stomach/intestines, resulting in passing gas.
