Nexium vs losec

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium vs losec

nexium

Avatar f tn My symptoms were lots of burping, feeling full with very little food intake, heavy feeling in my stomach after eating, and a very full feeling in my upper abdomen and occasional heartburn and some nausea, no vomiting and lots of gas.. I was treated for 1 month with Losec 20mg with no real improvement. I was switched to Nexium 40mg for another month in case the gastritis was severe or if I had developed an ulcer. At this time, I had blood work for Celiac Disease and bloodwork for H.
Avatar f tn My Dr believed I had gastritis related to Naproxen. I was treated for 30 days with losec, no real improvement and then 30 days with Nexium and not much improvement. My symptoms has lessened, but not gone completely away. I have been under a fair amount of stress this year for various reasons and I'm also a big worrier at the best of times, so I believe that is contributing. I was lucky enough to get into see a gastroenterologist yesterday. The next appointment was in October!
Avatar f tn Three years ago, after I lost my voice completely, an ENT specialist switched me to Nexium, a stronger drug than Losec, but things did not improve. Then I went to a naturopath, who pointed out that these "proton pump inhibitors" are really just powerful antacids. Your stomach has a natural balance of acid and bile, and destroying all the acid causes too much bile, which can be just as bad as too much acid.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your reply sue, i also have GERD which they now realise is being caused by my hiatus hernia, the problem is i have been on reflux meds for years (nexium, somac, rani) and while they do help a bit with the reflux they don't stop the nausea. I have also been diagnosed with GAD which was brought on by stress at work and been made worse by the constant nausea and being told for 2 years that it's all in my head.
Avatar m tn ER doc said he was very surprised my doctor had changed me from Losec (which was not working) to Nexium (which is also not working), since they are essentially the same drug. I’m also on Motilium. None of these drugs seems to help at all with my symptoms.
Avatar n tn t allow Nexium to be sold/patented because it was so similar to Prilosec. Prilosec = Omeprazole vs Nexium = Esomeprazole, just go with Omeprazole and pay the generic copay.
Avatar n tn There is no 'safer.' It depends on which one works better for you. They don't all work by a completely similar mode of action. So you'll have to try to find the one that works and gives you the fewer side-effects.
2065896 tn?1373685384 This was how I got the last bad attack of bronchitis. This is why the Specialist wanted me to take 2x20mg losec twice a day because I produce a heap of acid. Also it is important to have the head of the bed raised to help keep the acid down.
Avatar n tn It started last September with a deep ache in the lower back, pains when swallowing near the orifice of the stomache and a general sense of feebleness. The doctors prescribed Losec which helped against the swallowing and reduced the other pains aswell. A month later the nausea started, at first she believed it was food poisoning. When it didn't go away tests were performed to see if it was a hiatus hernia which it didn't seem to be.
Avatar m tn The cause does not seem to be lifestyle (my doctor has said this is “clearly not lifestyle related”) and symptoms are not managed through lifestyle changes. Medication seems to work intermittently. Losec worked for a few weeks, then stopped working. I’m now on Nexium. It took about two weeks to kick in, worked well for about a week and now symptoms seem to be coming back. Supplementing with Tums, Gaviscon, Pepto Bismol, etc. has limited to no effect.
Avatar m tn But,they all gave me the similar medicine such as nexium,losec... but those drugs never able to heal my swallowing problem at all. I went back to another doctor again, he request me for barium esophagram test and cat scan to see if I have other problems in my upper organs. The results all come out with fine. So my doctor said that I must have stomach ,esophagus spasms. And then he still prescribed me only nexium and maalox, and remind me trying to relax,no cancer at all.
Avatar n tn I took medications for acid reflux such as nexium and losec for almost half a year, but now I have stopped taking them and use some homeopathic medication and Manuka honey. I was thinking of starting working out again after a long time and I was wondering weather using Protein shakes could have any adverse affects on my acid reflux? If so Is there any special one i could take that would not bother my acid reflux.
Avatar m tn In January of this year (2008) I was having heartburn so bad it made me sick with feeling of muscle cramps on the right side of my chest. My doctor prescribed a 2 week course of Nexium. The heartburn went away for a few days after the 2 weekes but returned. Maalox used to help but after a few days of constant heartburn the doc told me to buy Prilosec which worked well.
Avatar f tn Last week during the night I awoke and it felt as is my stomach, esophagus and throat were on fire. I went to my Dr. who prescribed Nexium for what she thought was GERD. She also drew some labs. I have taken the Nexium since Sat which has helped a little along with diet modification. Today they called and my lipase was elevated at only 70. She said I should have a Gall Bladder UltraSound done and if that is normal then to procede with a HydaScan.
Avatar m tn I have been on 20mg Losec (omeprazole) for many years and recently had a stomach scope that showed I had more than 50 (they stop counting after 50) Fundic gland polyps. Research tells me these polyps are the result of extended use of Losec. A biopsy was done of one and showed it was not cancerous and the doctor told me it is not a great cause for concern but that I should have regular scopes. Nevertheless I do worry. Is there an alternative to Losec that will not cause this problem?
Avatar m tn What is the difference between Esophageal spasms and Erosive esophagitis and what are the appropriate medications for each? Is Nexium or Librax the preferred medication for one but not the other? After having two stents in a right artery almost three years ago, recently suffering from a burning chest pain that increased with exertion and a cardiac catheterization that indicated no progression of the heart disease, I was diagnosed to be suffering from esophageal spasms and was prescribed Nexium.
Avatar f tn She put me on Losec 20mg for 30 days, with no real improvement of my symptoms or I was just getting used to feeling this way. The symptoms then were lots of bloating/full feeling in upper abdomen, nausea, lots of burping, heartburn, feeling full quickly and not wanting to eat. Also, at times, crampy feeling throughtout abdomen, felt like bowels. In a month, I had lost about 16lbs, mostly from eating so little. Saw my Dr again on June 9th.
Avatar f tn I see you are also on prilosec ( presuming it's the same as losec ) and are suffering from constipation and gas issues. Does this make you abdomin area feel heavy, tense or slightly bloated as well. As in my other post do you think it vould be a side effect from the losec? Another thing that I have learnt is that decaf coffee is also very acidic. You might have to go to a herbal tea that is completely caffiene and acid free instead. But not peppermint apparently.
Avatar m tn I went to my doctor who recommended I try Losec. She suggested that the sudden onset of the reflux could have been the result of stress. I have now been on 20mg of Losec for 4 days and my symptoms have disappeared. My doctor suggested trying the Losec for 1 – 2 months, then weaning off of it by taking the pill every other day and seeing how I feel.
Avatar m tn Just wondering, this morning i had some brown/yellow stool, more yellow, consistancy of toothpaste. I do have acid reflux, i take losec for it. I re-started taking losec yesterday, however lastnight i did have chinese food and took a b100. Would that be what caused the yellow stool.
