Common Questions and Answers about Nexium vs lansoprazole

nexium

Avatar m tn Have taken Lansoprazole for years and after a heart condition kept on it but started to get atypical chest pain, which was not put down to the cardiac medication. Eventually the g.p. suggested trying (Nexium) - Esomeprazole 20mg instead, with the instruction that if there was a temporary flare up, - double the dose.
Avatar m tn I have Barrett's Esophagus, I have been to my GI doctor for a Endoscopy and he said, it wasn't bad. I am taking Nexium 40mg. once a day. I have noticed that if I eat spicy food or drink acouple of beers that the next day I feel like there is something stuck in my throat. I told told the doctor about it, but he said, thats normal with my condition. Does anyone else get this feeling.? And what is it ?
Avatar n tn t allow Nexium to be sold/patented because it was so similar to Prilosec. Prilosec = Omeprazole vs Nexium = Esomeprazole, just go with Omeprazole and pay the generic copay.
Avatar n tn There is no 'safer.' It depends on which one works better for you. They don't all work by a completely similar mode of action. So you'll have to try to find the one that works and gives you the fewer side-effects.
Avatar f tn i did have a cyst on my ovary, but i believe it has burst recently. i am currently on nexium 40mg once a day. today, after eating some orzo noodles with olive oil and some mixed vegetables, i had sudden diarrhea. there was no stomach pain or cramping, no burning in the normal areas, and no nausea. nothing has happened since, and it was more loose and watery then anything really and some of it was solid also. was just wondering if this was normal/common with what i have been diagnosed with.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Protonix for 5 yrs. Originally had Bowel obstruction surgery 7 yrs. agao. Bad doctor from emergency room referral, no antibiotics before during or after. Contracted acute sepsis, jaundice then ARDS. On ventelator in coma for several weeks. Upon awakening had hole in my stomach size of a football. Several failed mesh surgeries, finally flapped and repaired by reputable nationally known surgeon. Still have adhesions requiring decompression sometim es, etc.
Avatar m tn t working, take 2 of them or get a prescription for protonix or a stronger version of Nexium, aciphex, or lansoprazole. Protonix is really good. If it does not relieve your symptoms, get a GI consult and ask them to do an endoscopy if indicated. It could be a hiatal hernia, but its a stretch. Id bet GERD 99%.
Avatar m tn I have been to my GI doctor for a Endoscopy and he said, I had GERDS and Barretts Esophagus and put me on Nexium 40mg twice a day. Then I had a Colonoscopy and he said, I had Diverticulitis, which was something I never had before. He never told me how I got it or what to do about it or even if that was what was causing the morning pain. Does anyone one else have this condition and have the morning stomach pain ? And what can I do for it ?
Avatar f tn m 5ft 7. I have been taking the Proton Pump Inhibitor Drug Lansoprazole for my Hiatus Hernia/Acid Reflux for roughly 3 years now. I started with 30mg per day and the past year I had to up my dose to 60mg per day due to my severe acid reflux. For the past 12 months I have been experiencing what can only be described as Fatigue, brain fog and exhaustion. It is the type that isn't helped by sleep, rest, or even suggested by my doctor, excercise. Infact the latter only makes it 10x worse.
Avatar n tn I've been dealing with gerd issues for the last half year. Colonoscopy and endoscopy were negative. I did do a series of rolling barium stomach xray which did show my stomach was on a roller coaster ride. I've been on most of the meds for gerd, from Zantac to Nexium to Lansoprazole to Pantoprazole. In December I started to develope numbness in my left foot and right hand. (Last night I noticed my left anke was swollen.
Avatar f tn Last week during the night I awoke and it felt as is my stomach, esophagus and throat were on fire. I went to my Dr. who prescribed Nexium for what she thought was GERD. She also drew some labs. I have taken the Nexium since Sat which has helped a little along with diet modification. Today they called and my lipase was elevated at only 70. She said I should have a Gall Bladder UltraSound done and if that is normal then to procede with a HydaScan.
Avatar m tn What is the difference between Esophageal spasms and Erosive esophagitis and what are the appropriate medications for each? Is Nexium or Librax the preferred medication for one but not the other? After having two stents in a right artery almost three years ago, recently suffering from a burning chest pain that increased with exertion and a cardiac catheterization that indicated no progression of the heart disease, I was diagnosed to be suffering from esophageal spasms and was prescribed Nexium.
Avatar m tn m a 38 year old white male, i have GERD which i take nexium for, id like to think it wasnt a heart attack but everything i read points to those symptoms. as i sit here and write i still have various minor pains in those same areas. anyone have any information they can help me with?
Avatar m tn Prilosec, Nexium Side Effects: Acid Reflux Medication Heart Attack Class Action Lawsuit Investigation A recent study found that proton pump inhibitor heartburn treatments such as Nexium, Prilosec and Prevacid may be linked to an increased risk of heart attack, heart failure or sudden cardiac death.
Avatar n tn Serious lansoprazole side effects You should contact your doctor immediately if you experience any one or a combination of the serious lansoprazole side effects. Serious lansoprazole side effects include skin irritation or rash, blistering skin, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat or eyes. Other serious lansoprazole side effects include breathing problems, difficulty swallowing and hoarseness.
Avatar n tn Is it possible to have a reverse reaction to Nexium / omeprazole? It never really made the symptoms of my recently diagnosed hiatal hernia caused reflux (lump in throat, mostly) go away. It seemed to help for 2 weeks, but after 1 month it seemed to aggravate GERD symptoms. I am reading a lot on the subject, experimenting with diet and relaxation and the occasional spoonful of Maalox. I relate to the person who said they felt fine until after the endoscopy.
Avatar f tn I'm 99% sure I have LPR just waiting on a barium x ray and endoscopy. Started a few years ago as a little esophageal inflammation. Two years ago I started to get laryngitis alot.
Avatar m tn The response of your cough to Prevacid® (lansoprazole) provides support for your interpretation of cause and effect, but as you imply, you cannot be expected to take Prevacid® (lansoprazole) or similar medicines all your life. One approach to refractory GERD is surgery – the Nissan Plication – but before even considering surgery, you should consult with a gastroenterologist with a special interest in esophageal disease and esophageal motility.
709686 tn?1277432159 Esomeprazole (Nexium) is slightly different than omeprazole (Prilosec). But your body could react the same way. You could try a small amount and see. There are some combo otc drugs by Rolaids and others that have an antacid and famotidine (acid reducer). Those probably don't work as well.
Avatar m tn Been taking Zantac effervescent regularly and have tried every other drug known to man but the doctor suggested we try 20mg Nexium a day to see if that helps. It has, but after 10 days now I seem to be getting worse again. Also started taking Gaviscon (again) before meals. The question is how long do we take the Nexium? permenently, or stop when I feel better? the doctor was vague abd said the usual; come back in 2 weeks and let me know how you are. Anybody have any side affects?
Avatar n tn I'd ask your dr and discuss rebound effects, too. If you don't do it cautiously enough, you run the risk of it being worse. Is there OTC for Nexium? I'd lower the RX dose if ok with your Dr and then wean down from there vs switching meds IMHO.
Avatar m tn Has your doctor run any tests to rule out various causes, or did he/she just do a physical exam and prescribe medication?
