Avatar f tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Are you still having the pain? By seeing a gastroenterologist, they will probably be able to find a medication that will help your problems without causing you severe side effects. If your problem is just inflammation of the stomach lining, you shouldn't be on these medications for very long. These medications are approved for long term use though so it shouldn't affect your overall health. I don't believe it harms a womans fertility.
Avatar m tn Triple antibiotic therapy is needed to kill this bacteria off. As for acid blockers, they are for short term use only. The 4 primary consequences of acid blocking drugs are increased bacterial overgrowth, impaired nutrient absorption, decreased resistance to infection, increased risk of cancer and other diseases. Excerpt from "Stomach Acid" by Jon Barron: "The bottom line here is that most people are very confused about the role stomach acid plays in health.
Avatar f tn I think you probably had a bad reaction to the Zoloft -- it happens. But that's not the same as withdrawal. Hope you find something that helps. As for your digestive problems, those drugs you're taking aren't too good for long term use anyway, as they cause a rebound effect given that the stomach must fight against the suppression of acid whenever it needs to produce acid to digest protein.
Avatar n tn Long-term use of Proton Pump Inhibitors can cause or exacerbate Osteoporosis, chest pain, distended stomach, nausea, diarrhea/constipation, abdominal pain, flatulence, headache & trouble swallowing. They can also interfere with the absorption of other drugs. As you can see, most of the side effects appear to be gastrointestinal, which means we have to be aware of whether our symptoms are coming from the Reflux/Barrett's, etc.

Avatar n tn Hi I don't know I am just a lay person but I would be cautious about using any sleep medication with untreated sleep apnea. I wonder if your symptoms are the result of the sleep apnea vs the medication. Disturbed sleep can leave you feeling tired and low oxygen saturation levels could explain poor memory. I don't know of any long-term effects of Remeron. I have read that increased blood fats could pose a risk for some people though. This is said to be rare.

Avatar m tn I completely agree with Paxiled. If you're feeling good on this medication then why stop taking it? It's hard to say what withdrawal side effects a person may have but I don't think your cough was a side effect because you had it before you started this med. You know what's best for you and if this med is working then don't let your Dr try to take you off of it. That's just my opinion.
Avatar n tn Medications are given to alleviate symptoms, in your case for GERD. But Nexium is not for long term use. Anti-inflamatories also have side effects that can be detrimental if taken for long periods of time. Since you have taken it for years, and continue to have discomfort over your rib area, your doctor has an obligation to you to try and diagnose the cause. Medications can mask the problem without actually treating it.
Avatar f tn You are experiencing side effects of Neurontin, is all. Diff people react diff ways to it. Me, I have nausea that bothers me a lot. The weight gain you ask about is one of the side effects, as are the other problems you are having. I've been taking it for two years, and I also started out on Lyrica, but becuz of cost I had to switch. Neurontin has only been around for about 15 years, so for at least for that length of time you're good.
