Common Questions and Answers about Nexium side effects liver

nexium

Avatar f tn Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have ever had any type of liver disease. You may not be able to use Nexium, or you may need a dosage adjustment or special tests during treatment.
114870 tn?1210298346 Since she has no gallbladder now, bile is draining freely from her liver and going into her stomach...also nexium/protonix/acidphex probably should be continued. If she eats I wouldn't lie down right after but if she has to, prop the chest up and lie on the right side so that bile doesn't fill up her stomach. That's all I can think of :S i'm sorry your mom is going through this.
Avatar m tn Prilosec, Nexium Side Effects: Acid Reflux Medication Heart Attack Class Action Lawsuit Investigation A recent study found that proton pump inhibitor heartburn treatments such as Nexium, Prilosec and Prevacid may be linked to an increased risk of heart attack, heart failure or sudden cardiac death.
Avatar n tn I've been dealing with gerd issues for the last half year. Colonoscopy and endoscopy were negative. I did do a series of rolling barium stomach xray which did show my stomach was on a roller coaster ride. I've been on most of the meds for gerd, from Zantac to Nexium to Lansoprazole to Pantoprazole. In December I started to develope numbness in my left foot and right hand. (Last night I noticed my left anke was swollen.
Avatar f tn It mostly works for my GERD - without it it is unbearable. The problem I have is the terrible side effects. They are all gastrointestinal. I am miserable all the time. I feel like my food takes FOREVER to digest and move through my system! I feel like when I eat the food just "sits" there for such a long time. I feel constipated, but can "go" most days, though not completely. I have gained about 8 pounds, and most days I look like I'm pregnant!
17174583 tn?1456152946 All 5 doctors I went told me that is impossible although my symptoms are listed as side effects of Entecavir. ( but all 5 docs wanted me to go on their patient list permanently so they would be the one to prescribe this drug couse in my country it cost almost 500$ per month). I went to a homoeopath which is also neurologist and psychiatrist, gave me treatment and told me my health is poor due to entecavir. I take homeopath treatment for a month with too little improvements.
Avatar f tn Most knowledgeable hepatologists prescribe proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drugs like Nexium or Prilosec. Both are generally considered liver friendly; omeprazole is available generically if cost is an issue.
Avatar f tn I started taking Pradaxa less thatn a montha ago and am taking the same dosage and noticed the same heartburn and was prescribed Nexium for it. That is one of the side effects. I really did not experience the fatigue but I do have hip pain but I think that is due to skipping the gym for a couple of weeks. I'd call the Doc and let them know what is up.
Avatar n tn ive heard of many people who have taken nexium for many years and dont suffer the side-effects that you described, and also have not gained weight because they choose to excersise everyday and watch what they eat. look its your choice there is a sensible way of taking nexium and keeping fit and taking nexium and eating non-healthy, cheers.
Avatar f tn I am still in shock and just started the treatment (only 3 days into taking prednisone). I am dreading the side effects, but I dread even more the horrible symptoms I was having. I wish you luck. Be your own advocate. You know yourself best.
Avatar f tn I believe I did hear a piece on the news - a brief bit as news usually goes, that some of the PPIs can cause joint problems. Google "side effects of Nexium". I took Nexium for 5 or 6 years and each day was misery with uncontrollable diarrhea, and pain. I am almost certain that there is a connection. It has many side effects, but I no longer have my pharmacy print-out of the side effects listed. My doctor told me Prevacid would not cause severe colitis, but it did.
Avatar n tn Red_Star gave good advice regarding side effects, as well as info regarding levels of stomach acid. Paradoxically, ingesting several tablespoons of cider, which is slightly acidic, will assist with GERD. Cutting to the chase the primary problem with long-term use of medications is cumulative liver damage. There are blood tests that can determine when this starts to develop. Gabapenten is (in my opinion) a nightmare on Elm street.
Avatar m tn However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor, meaning they either require no treatment or are easily treated by a healthcare provider.
Avatar f tn She is quite nervous about the side effects. We dont really know what to expect as I have heard different things from different doctors and nurses. I know it probably effects people differently but I am just wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences that they could share with me as to what to expect?
979080 tn?1323433639 PPIs don't have any negative effects on the liver and don't raise viral load. They are the best medications for increased GI acid production/ulcers and should really help you with your symptoms. They are worth a try. Viral load just fluctuates on its own, usually independently from anything we do or don't do. My husband's viral load all of a sudden went from 23 mln to 2 mln-and we didn't do anything different when it happened.
Avatar m tn worsened IBS - bad abdominal cramps (caused by Nexium together with fever and Zantac) a white-coated and burning tongue (caused by Prevacid, Zantac, Protonix, Pepcid, Riopan). I'd like to know if anybody has experienced intollerance to the various antireflux medicines similar to mine. Have you ever had a severely burning tongue caused by them?
Avatar m tn I am currently taking the Telepriver protocol with copeg/pegasys interferon/ribavirin etc,,, am in my fourth week and I have some very uncomfortable side effects. 'Roids are a BIG issue,,, traditional treatments are offering minimal relief/results,, anyone had similar complaints? How did you handle it?
Avatar f tn How do you think being on 1 5/500mg tablet of Hydrocodone per day in conjunction with the Nexium (Every day) will affect my liver/kidney in the long run? He has told me that such a small dose will NEVER cause me harm. Somehow, I am not addicted to the Lortab and it continues to take a very tiny edge off of the pain so I am able to sleep somewhat better - there are days when i may have to take two, but that might happen 3 times a year.
Avatar f tn Hi I had a colonscopy 10/09/09, and I'm still having side effects. At first I couldn't stop going liquid then it cleared up for a couple of days now it's back. They found 4 polyps again beign but the kind that can turn into cancer so I have to have another next year. But I'm having to use tucks and I'm bleeding off and on from the rectum. I still have bloating feel kind of tired.
Avatar f tn Instead of coming off the the meds abruptly, think about coming off of the meds a step at a time over a period of weeks-to-months. There can be a problem with 'rebound' reflux and it can make a person miserable. So please factor that into your plan. Issues being reported with the use of PPIs and heart/electrical conduction disturbances, and this side-effect is now being noted on the 'side-effect' section of the patient handouts on these medications.
Avatar n tn I am having right side abdominal pain for 10 years now.. Dr could not find out what it is, and finally an extra came back and said that I had gall stones... Had my gall bladder removed and after 6 weeks, the pain returned.. My pain starts or is under my ribs, but radiates into my back, directly in the same spot, but the back instead.. this is driving me nuts... It feels like I have something swollen inside my body..
Avatar f tn my daughter was on prevacid for GERD...it caused her to vomit, and she was very fussy on it. Her doctor told me that side effects are vomitting, nausea, and headaches. I'm sorry you are going through this. Welcome to the community here. It helps to talk about things. It must be hard to see your son suffering so much.
