my insurence does not pay for brand Nexium. Only brand Nexium works. The company who makes Nexium will ok brand if I have a rejection from my Ins. Co. I called my Ins. co and they said that the do not send papers out that they do not pay for brands. Is anyone out there taking Teva's version of Nexium? I'm to the point now where I can't get the brand. I was astonished to see that this generic version's co-pay through my insurance is so high! $80 for 90 days. I could understand this price for the brand, but for generic? Hello. I have GERD and just received a prescription for Nexium (have been using OTC Prilosec but after using a couple weeks of samples found Nexium worked perfect for my symptoms). I have individual Carefirst but horrible prescription plan. I just purchased 30 Nexium at $160.00! I have to interject, I was on Trazadone for 3 yrs, and it's done nothing for Depression. It's actually used most frequently for sleep disorders now like insomnia and mid sleep awakening. I've been on a dose that could stun a horse - and I was still and do still get depressed with that drug in my system. It's great for insomnia btw, because it's not a benzo and not as addicting, so withdrawals aren't as hard.

I have been suffering with abdominal pain for about a year and a half now, i had an endoscopy in January 2009 and was diagnosed with mild Gastritis and Reflux, i was given Nexium to take which i took for 4 months and felt better. After a couple of months it came back again but felt worse so i was told by the doctor to go back on Nexium again which i had taken for 3 months and the pain and burning had not gone away.

Over here in the UK, we generally don't know what the cost of tests and drugs are, as they are covered by the NHS. But over the past 12 months I have started to learn a bit of what thing cost, and it appears that even if you go private they are considerabley cheaper than in the US which to me dosen't seem quite right.

The active components in Nexium are esomprazole magnesium and in Prilosec are Omeprazole Magnesium. Also, Nexium comes in 20 mg and 40 mg capsules and Prilosec is sold over the counter in 20 mg tablets. My GI switched me to Nexium because Aciphex gave me terrible side effects and Protonix made my water brash symptoms ever worse. I have tried Prilosec in the past and it didn't have much of an effect for me.

My reason is driven mainly by the fact the Tartrate is about 1/6th the cost of the Suc (ER). That said, I wonder if I will not in fact have a more "level" medication concentration taking the 25 mg twice rather than the 50 mg ER once a day. I think there is a good possibility that I'll have a more uniform medication concentration (on average) taking the Tartrate twice a day. Or, I have my doubts about how well a ER holds up over 24 hours.
