Avatar n tn I have not heard of any link between nexium and cancer of the esophagus. There is a link between acid reflux and Barrett's esophagus that can ultimately turn into cancer if the condition is not controlled. That's typically why nexium is given - to knock down the reflux and control damage to the esophagus.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am 16 turning 17 in May. I started taking Nexium in 2013 in August. I have a severe case of Acid Reflux. My esophagus is mildly burned. I have no ulcers. Ever since I was 5 I had acid reflux disease for years we couldn't figure it out neither could my mom she just thought I had bad morning stomach aches until she became an EMT paramedic in 2010, ever since she figured it out we've been looking for medicine to help.
Avatar m tn Hello. I have taken GERD medication for about 20 years. I was on Prevacid for many years. My GERD is severe, and nothing else worked as well. Protonix and Nexium did NOTHING for me, nor did Aciphex. Prevacid works OK, and my doc suggested Kapidex and I took it for a month. I did about as well on it as the Prevacid if not a tad better. I think Prevacid and/or Kapidex blow away Nexium; although what may be right for me will not be guaranteed for you.
Avatar f tn He told me that it is being caused by the sphlinter muscle not functioning properly causing the acid to come right up to the throat. I am currently on Nexium. He said that Nexium should resolve the problem within a month.
60505 tn?1313946644 "I am a 46yo (white) female, I have been checking statistics for stomach cancer and I do see as a female and with my race the odds are very low. For the last 2 months I have been getting stomach "pain" more uncomfortable than pain, along with a feeling of "fullness" sometimes with a sense of nausea. No weight loss. I would say I have been getting indigestion and reflux for as long as I can remember.
1373488 tn?1325148631 Though it is NOT cancer, you should be monitored closely, especially given the family history of gastric cancer (your father) and it puts you at HIGH risk for developing Intestinal-Type Gastric CA. Other solutions: That is for your physician who is treating you to decide.
Avatar m tn I have been on Nexium on and off for about 8 years now. Never heard of Nexium being linked with stomach cancer; that's news to me. I do know if you don't control GERD symptoms then you are at risk for developing Barrett's which in turn makes you at risk for Esophageal cancer. So, it is VERY important you get a handle on your reflux. I have read that Nexium or PPIs in general should NEVER be given to a patient IF Stomach cancer is SUSPECTED.
Avatar f tn You do not fool around acid problems, because if it goes untreated you can get Barretts Esophagus, it can become cancer. It is a slow growing cancer. But you do not need cancer at any time. And make sure that you take your medicine.
Avatar f tn Since month ago I been having a constant lump sensation on my throat that comes and go. I read It could be Gloubus Sensation" and the main causes are strees o GERD . I had an endoscopy about two weeks ago I was diagnosed with GERD , a little Heital Hernia, Duodenitis without bleeding and a Decreased Peristalsis in the Stomach suggestive of Gastroparesis. They also took me some biopsies but now I'm wating for the results in two weeks. The Dr.
496495 tn?1224609863 Hello I am a 28 year old male and I am concerned about throat cancer. Almost 2 and a half weeks ago I had laid down to take a nap and when I awoke I had weird pain on the left side of my throat when I swallowed. This lasted for about a day and got a lot better but there was still some minor pain every so often when I swallowed. I do have acid reflux and allergies with bad post nasal drip and had a scope about 2 and a half years ago showing some minor irritation around my focal cords.
Avatar f tn My Dr believed I had gastritis related to Naproxen. I was treated for 30 days with losec, no real improvement and then 30 days with Nexium and not much improvement. My symptoms has lessened, but not gone completely away. I have been under a fair amount of stress this year for various reasons and I'm also a big worrier at the best of times, so I believe that is contributing. I was lucky enough to get into see a gastroenterologist yesterday. The next appointment was in October!
Avatar m tn Hi, I'm a 35 yr old male with occasional abdominal discomfort. my stools are what concern me the most at this time. they occasionally float and most of the time leave a clear haze on top of the water (not very obvious but its there). they are soft and formed but very messy when wiping .
Avatar n tn What is the chance of Barrett's Esophagus evolving into cancer? My throat has become raw and it is becoming increasingly hard to swallow.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed w/Barrett's esophagus last summer. My specialist told me to come back in 3 years and be re-tested to see if it had returned to normal. Can your esophagus ever be normal again? I think my doc's a quack! He only prescribed Zantac 150 3x's a day, and told me I could continue to drink coffee all day long (I'm a 6 cupper) and drink alcohol at night (which I've been doing), My primary care dr.
Avatar n tn Hi all. I'm just very curious about this. I had an appointment with a gastro because I'm having twinges on the rib area and think it's due to anti-inflammatories. I've been on Nexium for years, so the GERD is really under control. Immediately I was set up for an endoscopy which is fine, but not what I really wanted. I guess I just wanted to test a drug like Carafate first, for relief, then get the endoscopy if needed.
Avatar m tn Dear Doctors/Professors My reflux problem started approx 4 years ago. I did a juice based diet and then shortly after I would experience burning only in the stomach area nowhere else. It didn't travel up the Oesophagus at all. The treatment method was and is still Nexium 40. I take 1 Nexium 40 every 3 days and then obviously repeat this as the stomach acid returns.
Avatar m tn The last year it has gotten worse where I occasionally wake up with back and throat pain but it is quickly resolved by getting up, moving around and taking tums. I have been to many gastro dr.s, have been on nexium and zantac and am mostly constipated (wondering if I have IBS-C?) For some reason, I am petrified of having pancreatic cancer and worry that the back pain could be this.
Avatar n tn I've been experiencing alot of reflux type symptoms and have recently undergone endoscopy. The physician found no evidence of Barrett's but did find a nodule at the gastroesphageal junction. Biopsy came back benign. I'm scheduled for another in a couple of months to recheck status. I'm on Nexium 40 mg. which is helping with the reflux tremendously. Question is: Is it safe to continue Nexium on a long term basis? I only found info stating for short term use.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if nexium can cause anemia? I have been on it 13 years and suddenly have iron deficiency anemia.
Avatar f tn The ultrasound came back normal and my upper endescopy showed Grade A Reflux and Gastritis. The Dr gave me Nexium, but I was still getting upper stomach pain and pressure in the chest an back. I was switched to Protonix and it seemed to help with the upper stomach pain right under the breastbone. I'm taking two pills a day. Does anyone know how long Protonix takes to work? I was told that some PPI's could take 4 to six weeks to take affect.
Avatar f tn Then I feel like I have a lump in my throat or voicebox, but I do not bring up any mucous. I also have a GERD issue for a long time, and have been on Nexium which has taken care of the GERD. I get a little bit of relief with Allegra prescribed by my doctor. I have no problem swallowing food or liquid, but concerned over this constant feeling of something there in the middle of my throat.
Avatar m tn Been taking Zantac effervescent regularly and have tried every other drug known to man but the doctor suggested we try 20mg Nexium a day to see if that helps. It has, but after 10 days now I seem to be getting worse again. Also started taking Gaviscon (again) before meals. The question is how long do we take the Nexium? permenently, or stop when I feel better? the doctor was vague abd said the usual; come back in 2 weeks and let me know how you are. Anybody have any side affects?
Avatar f tn Originally my Doctor and I thought it was just stress because I lost my husband to suicide and months later I lost my son to cancer but my symptoms were persistent. I started having diarrhea badly and vomiting almost daily. I had a scope done and it showed severe gastritis with a small ulcer. I was put on nexium results for H. Pylori were negative. Symptoms improved but only for a couple of weeks. Once again I am vomiting and no appetite. I have lost over 30lbs without trying.
Avatar f tn He followed up with his doctor on this and I do not think they did the right thing by giving him Nexium. Since he has been on the nexium he has gained 20-30lbs and is now feeling bloated and worse than before. I just do not know what to do about this anymore. I do not know what it could be caused from. If maybe I could get a diet for this type of thing so i knew what kinds of foods that would be best for his stomach and or a better diagnosis. Could this be IBS? We will be following up with a G.
