Nexium and vitamin deficiency

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium and vitamin deficiency

nexium

Avatar n tn If you have had a vagotomy, taking Nexium is not advised, A vagotomy reduces acid production and the Nexium also reduces acid production. My advice, having gone through the same surgery ,is to stop taking the Nexium, which by the way is not recommended for use more than 14 days. Take a fiber supplement mixed with water and a teaspoon of cider vinegar before every meal . If you should have occasional acid stomach symptoms, take regular Tums.
Avatar f tn For this reason, Japan has risen the lowest level of B12 to 550pg/mL. Nexium causes vitamin B12 deficiency (and plenty of other deficiency states) as it lowers stomach acid essential to release instrinsic factor needed to bind to vitamin B12 for absorption in the gut. A more accurate test for vitamin B12 deficiency is a urinary methylmalonic acid test. (UMMA). Methylmalonic acid rises just 10 days after a vitamin B12 deficiency starts.
Avatar f tn However, the causes of vitamin D deficiency are numerous and you may have more than one condition contributing to this deficiency. Vitamin D deficiency is estimated to affect at least a billion people worldwide. When vitamin D levels are not rising well or at all (vitamin D resistance) low magnesium levels are the first suspect. High doses of vitamin D can worsen an existing magnesium deficiency.
Avatar m tn Hi...many of the meds for GERD/acid reflux deplete our system of the vitamins and minerals we need....they can also make it difficult to absorb them in a natural way or by supplementation..... But, u should be looking to ur PCP to do blood labs to make sure all levels r where they need to be. Magnesium and vit D go hand in hand and many times the drs will say vit d is low but not too many will say u also need the magnesium.... So ask what dose might be good for u to add....
Avatar f tn With folic acid deficiency, it is possible for iron and Vit B12 deficiency to co-exist. Hence if B12 is normal, test for iron. Also once you start Vti D and folic acid supplements it will be sometime before you really feel normal again. You can take Vit B12 supplements or a multivitamin B12 supplement and see. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn She was on acid blockers for 25 years (tagament for 20 years, nexium for 5 years and also took gaviscon for 10 years). I took my mother off nexium and gaviscon cold turkey and started digestive enzyme supplements and betaine HCI with pepsin supplements in their place. She never got worse only better. She no longer suffers GERD, LPR and is 95% improved with gastritis. If you don't want to go cold turkey you could try taking digestive enzyme supplements and wean off nexium more slowly.
Avatar m tn But now the pain came back again with muscle pain in my neck and shoulders and pain and stifness and tingling in my hands and legs .A month ago i checked my vitamine D again and it was (18) now my doctor put me again on 50.000 iu a week along with the physical therapy ! still no improvement ! Avatar n tn I am having another episode and am extremely nauseous, have slowed bowel movements, acid reflux and pain above the belly button. My doctor suspects an ulcer flaring up and has given me nexium to treat. I will see her in a week. Nexium is not having much effect. What is a differential diagnosis and what test can I have to deny or confirm ulcers? Is it possible to have multiple ulcers? I also suffer from tremors and am not on any medication except for nexium.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your post! That is helpful information. I was diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency, and I have been taking D3 for 3 months( I'm getting my labs done next week). I thought that maybe my GERD symptoms were linked to my vitamin D deficiency, but I wasn't sure if the two conditions were connected. I am also currently taking vitamin b12(methylcobalamin) sublingual supplement and magnesium oil on my skin. I had my thyroid levels checked and they were normal.
4205995 tn?1351169508 Neutralizing stomach acid means you ability to absorb nutrients is impaired. Warning in particular for nexium is magnesium deficiency on the FDA website - seen within 3 months but on average about a year after starting. Avatar m tn My main worry was that I wanted to try it again but was afraid that with all the supplements and then the nexium and levo that it might not be a good thing?
19024797 tn?1471291132 m taking 6,000 IU of Vitamin D daily and have read many articles on how Magnesium and Vitamin K all work together in the process of absorbing Vitamin D and visa vera...but when my doctor but me on Vitamin D he didn't mention supplementing with Magnesium or Vitamin K. Do I really need to take all three? or can I just take Vitamin D?
Avatar f tn I fully agree with Red-Start, I think that the Ranitidine and PPI are producing you a deficiency in Magnesium, Vitamin B and Calcium... that can be the reason for most of your symptoms. And can be easily checked with a blood test, that also should include Vitamin D (just to cover your allergies). What surprises me is that you are convinced that you have RLS and say that never have gone to a neurologist... so how do you know that you have RLS?
417564 tn?1287982827 It seems very common to get a cold/flu while detoxing/withdrawing - could this be because of the vitamin deficiency our bodies suffer from? Incorporating a strong vitamin program in with your detox helps to offset some of the more painful effects. It is in anyones best interest to research the Thomas recipe, and I believe it is Avisg journal that gives great info on proper dosage. (I need to check & make sure I am giving credit when it is due!
Avatar f tn Before four years I was severe Vit. D and Vit. B12 deficiency. Just two months before I have done root canal. From that I have severe back pain, sometimes burning sensation on backside, headache, feeling weakness, dipressed mood, not concentrating on work, anxiety. I have done blood test. My vit. D is 60ng/ml, vit. B12 680pg/ml. My CBC, HB, LFT, KFT, cholesterol is normal. Orthopedic Dr prescribed 4 tab. of vit D suggest to take one table after three weeks. I have also consulted to Neurologist.
Avatar m tn Blood tests were normal other than one time I had a high blood count, but it went back to normal when it was rechecked. I have had low vitamin B12 and D for the last 2 years. I have also recently had low folate and iron. I went back to the doctor in February, they changed my medication and said it was a gastritis flare up, well I have had gastritis for a while and never had these additional symptoms, just the same ones I had for GERD. The new medicine is not helping any and I am miserable.
Avatar m tn The doctor put me on Omeprazole for 21 days and after that the symptoms came back and they put me in for Esomeprazole (Nexium) for another 21 days. After the Nexium I still have the symptoms nausea and hyperacidity though I haven't had heartburn since then, just the feeling of tightness on my chest sometimes. My question is has anyone survived GERD without relying on medication?
335728 tn?1331414412 While I am not on any DMD, I am on Tegretol, Elavil, Citalopram for my MS symptoms. I am on Spireva, Symbicort, Singulair and Ventolin for my COPD and Asthma and Prevacid and Lipitor for GERD and high cholesterol. I also take Amitriptyline for fatigue related to MS. Has anyone else had trouble with protein or calcium deficiency that has been proven related to any meds?
Avatar n tn while I was on 6-80mg Nexium a day, I had weird and chronic gastro-viruses and I believe Nexium kills all the acid in your stomach and then you are more prone to stomach viruses.
