I was put on Nexium for a long time, and I have since switched to Prilosec OTC because I ran out of health insurance. It's been about five days on Prilosec but I keep feeling nauseous in the morning after I take it, but it's nothing too bad and it goes away fairly quickly.

Avatar f tn On Nexium I could eat anything and not get heartburn. Yes, the Nexium depleted my B12 and I had B12 shots for three months and get routine blood work to check my levels. I do take iron and B12 supplements daily. I also have had upper and lower GI's and the gastric emptying scan which came back negative.
Avatar f tn With folic acid deficiency, it is possible for iron and Vit B12 deficiency to co-exist. Hence if B12 is normal, test for iron. Also once you start Vti D and folic acid supplements it will be sometime before you really feel normal again. You can take Vit B12 supplements or a multivitamin B12 supplement and see. Avatar m tn take synthroid on an empty stomach, half an hour to one hour before breakfast; vitamin B12, vitamin D and prenatal vitamins for lunch (vitamin A, D, E and K are fat soluble vitamins so eat a meal containing fat for better absorption); metformin with the evening meal. You can switch this around but avoid taking vitamins with synthroid (calcium and iron can interfer with thyroxine absorption) and metformin (can inhibit the absorption of vitamin B12).

It also affects the absorption of calcium, which in turn can lead to osteoporosis and fractures. Discuss your concerns with your doctor before stopping any medication. I hope it helps. Avatar n tn In a healthy normal person they get B12 from their diet and then this special area of your intestines make something called "intrinsic factor" that makes the B12 work. You might be lacking that intrinsic factor (or have probs with that part of your intestine where it is made). Unfortunately the only way that you can get the activated form of B12 is from shots, so it sounds like you will need to make sure that you get them regularly now.

Avatar n tn t get false high results. I also suggest that you test for Vitamin D, B12, ferritin, and morning serum cortisol. The ratio of Free T3 to Reverse T3 is important. High Reverse T3 can negate the effect of your Free T3 level. D should be about 50, B12 in the upper end of its range, and ferritin should be about 70. I am especially curious about your ferritin and cortisol levels because improper levels of is reported to cause pooling of T3 in the blood instead of getting into cells.

Avatar n tn I think the confusion about all of the PPIs, including nexium, is that most docs prescribe PPIs without a lot of testing and without that testing it's possible that if someone feels better taking the nexium and stays on it longterm without any testing being done, it could end up masking a more serious problem - like stomach cancer.
