Nexium and ulcers

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium and ulcers

nexium

Avatar f tn Ezomeprazole or nexium is usually indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), H pylori infection, and reducing the risk of gastric ulcers. There is no drug interaction or connection with penicillin since it belongs to the group of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) which block the production of acid by the stomach. However, drug allergy can not be ascertained until you have allergic reaction to the drug after taking it.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am 16 turning 17 in May. I started taking Nexium in 2013 in August. I have a severe case of Acid Reflux. My esophagus is mildly burned. I have no ulcers. Ever since I was 5 I had acid reflux disease for years we couldn't figure it out neither could my mom she just thought I had bad morning stomach aches until she became an EMT paramedic in 2010, ever since she figured it out we've been looking for medicine to help.
Avatar f tn Massive amounts of heartburn, bad indigestion, throwing up at times ( no blood ) and also always has gas 90 percent of the day. He followed up with his doctor on this and I do not think they did the right thing by giving him Nexium. Since he has been on the nexium he has gained 20-30lbs and is now feeling bloated and worse than before. I just do not know what to do about this anymore. I do not know what it could be caused from.
Avatar f tn yeah. My scope was just done last week...and I went from one small ulcer to 6 ulcers in about 7 months time...I was also on prilosec then switched to nexium and the ulcers still got worse. I still can't eat much and am loosing weight. I am just tired and want to know whats going on with me. Do you think I fit the profile for zollinger ellison syndrome? My gastrin levels were elevated a little above 1000....but I was on nexium at the time.
Avatar f tn DGL (a form of licorice you chew in tablet form before meals that removes the part of licorice that raises blood pressure in some); aloe vera juice; monukka honey; mastic gum. But using natural medicine does require some knowledge and isn't inexpensive, and is most effectively used when you have a diagnosis.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Grade 2 esophagitis and gastritis, as well as an esophageal ulcer and 2 stomach ulcers. My esophagus was also stretched due to a narrowing from the reflux. I tested negative for H-pylori, thankfully. My doctor prescribed me 40mg of Nexium once a day. I've now been on the Nexium for 6 weeks, and while I have seen some improvement, I'm still having a lot of my previous issues as before.
Avatar n tn t much out there in the way of treating hiatial hernia except for Nexium and that type of drug, and wonder are these tests really necessary before trying to treat thru medicines? I'd say, knowing my own body, that trying a med is better than a scope first. Any opinions or personal experiences with this?
Avatar f tn Does he know anything about Heliobactor pylori bacteria causing stomach ulcers and that you might have a chronic intracellular bacterial infection? Lupus has no known etiology, and yet infectious mycoplasmas cause these issues.
Avatar f tn t work for me either but I have been taking Sulcrate Plus Suspension (solution) and it is doind a better job than Nexium. I take it 1/2 an hour before meals and I can eat. I haven't experienced any discomfort yet. And my results show that all my organs are healthy so I am sure that it is H. Pyroli bacteria but my doctor said that a breathe test is not 100% accurate so he suggested endoscopy. Lets see.
Avatar m tn My mother lost weight (without changing her diet) when she stopped nexium and gaviscon and started digestive enzymes and betaine HCI with pepsin. I had a look online about this based on the fact that lower stomach acid is a cause of poor digestion. A quick google search and i found the article "Poor Digestion Can Make You Fat" by William McKenna. Hmmm. So can you have your aussie hamburgers and lose weight too? If you digest your food well the odds are better...
Avatar n tn When it happened again after few years they put me on Nexium permanently and then even on Nexium I started getting pains for the past 8-9months and they did a series of tests again and couldn't find anything. Then we went to another GI specialist and he stopped my Nexium and then I had GI bleeding again. It is very rare to have a recurrent bleeding episode without any apparent cause except excessive acid. Do you have any explanation and remedy for this condition?
Avatar n tn I am having another episode and am extremely nauseous, have slowed bowel movements, acid reflux and pain above the belly button. My doctor suspects an ulcer flaring up and has given me nexium to treat. I will see her in a week. Nexium is not having much effect. What is a differential diagnosis and what test can I have to deny or confirm ulcers? Is it possible to have multiple ulcers? I also suffer from tremors and am not on any medication except for nexium.
Avatar f tn I had one small ulcer and I continued to loose weight and vomit a lot. I got scoped again and in uder a year I had 6 larger ulcers. I had a gastrin level done and it came back a little higher then 1000 so thats what diagnosed me.
Avatar n tn I have GERD and had ulcers in the past. It seems that when I stop taking this med, the pain returns and it looks like I'll be on Nexium for a very long time. I'm VERY concerned about the long-term effects of using this med for such a long time. Also, I have several illnesses i.e. systemic lupus, fibromyalgia, GERD, Sjogrens, bursitis, etc. By the way, the Nexium pill I take doesn't look like any of the pictures you have posted. Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you.
501740 tn?1266691293 I would like to mention though that I was on a low dose of Nexium when this blood test was done. I have erosive gastritis and both regular and bleeding stomach ulcers that were found during an endoscopy. I have also been told I likely have "dump syndrome". My b12 levels were low but were not out of range. My gastro told me that for a 22 women my b12 level should be 600-800. My is in the low 200's. I have had blood in my urine, a low serum IGA level.
Avatar f tn I'd double check because nexium can cause nausea and stomach pains ! I know what your going through though, i'm 19 and had acid reflux all of my life. I was switched from medication to medication and to me i just felt that the medicines would work for a while then id just get stupid side effects so i just stopped taking them and watch what i eat and i've actually been doing a lot better. Best of luck to you ! I would also get your gallbladder checked as a precaution!
Avatar n tn the pain has stayed for 5 days now and i have not done any test my stomach is still burning ana ia dont know what test to take, and the symptoms have stayed for five days and my head just has a burning sensation too.
Avatar n tn I have been vomiting blood, (the vomit that looks like coffee grounds) for a long time. I suspect I have ulcers as well. Insist that they test for it again. And yes, ask for the breath test.
Avatar m tn Nexium would help GERD, ulcers, and inflammation of the stomach. If it hasn't been done already, you can consider an upper endoscopy which can give a more conclusive answer. Other tests to consider would be a 24-hr pH study or an abdominal ultrasound to evaluate for GERD and the liver/gallbladder respectively. I would also obtain blood tests to exclude the bacteria H Pylori, which is associated with ulcers and inflammation.
Avatar f tn everything was normal!! they also did a full blood work up and that came back normal too... they have him on Nexium twice a day (morning and night), reglan and zofran when he needs it but they don't work, he has lost about 5 lbs in the last month.
Avatar m tn Nexium, Aciphex, Prilosec, Pepcid, Carafate, Clidinium/CPD and Probiotics. Nothing has helped. What I think is going on is that something is hampering the bodies ability to heal itself, caused either by the inflammation from the chronic prostatitis, a chronic infection/virus or the aluminum.
2114743 tn?1334484466 I eneded up going to a specialist hopeing to find a true answer. He did an endoscopy and did find that I had two duodenal ulcers. He started me back on the Nexium. For a time I did feel better. About a week before christmas I ate a bad egg and was horribly ill for weeks far longer then I should have been. I went back to my gastro to see what was wrong now. I was seeking further answers as to what is going on. I never got them. I was even told that I still could not have an ulcer.
Avatar f tn Also get Carafate (perscription ask her for it) take before meals this will heal your ulcers, drop the pill in a little water and drink it, they are not costly. I just had an endo done which had the same things ulcers, erosive gastris, hiatial hernia, bile leaking into stomach, it's a mess. I have no urge to eat either. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Hi, I was also diagnosed with the same thing and my Dr gave me Kapidex which is similar to Nexium. After 2 days on the pill, I starting having side effects of diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting for almost 3 days. They then switched me to Protonix which I am glad to say is working very well. So like CalGal said, it works differently with different people. Your daughter just needs to find one that works best for her. Good Luck!
