60505 tn?1313946644 "I am a 46yo (white) female, I have been checking statistics for stomach cancer and I do see as a female and with my race the odds are very low. For the last 2 months I have been getting stomach "pain" more uncomfortable than pain, along with a feeling of "fullness" sometimes with a sense of nausea. No weight loss. I would say I have been getting indigestion and reflux for as long as I can remember.
Avatar f tn She was on acid blockers for 25 years (tagament for 20 years, nexium for 5 years and also took gaviscon for 10 years). I took my mother off nexium and gaviscon cold turkey and started digestive enzyme supplements and betaine HCI with pepsin supplements in their place. She never got worse only better. She no longer suffers GERD, LPR and is 95% improved with gastritis. If you don't want to go cold turkey you could try taking digestive enzyme supplements and wean off nexium more slowly.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am 16 turning 17 in May. I started taking Nexium in 2013 in August. I have a severe case of Acid Reflux. My esophagus is mildly burned. I have no ulcers. Ever since I was 5 I had acid reflux disease for years we couldn't figure it out neither could my mom she just thought I had bad morning stomach aches until she became an EMT paramedic in 2010, ever since she figured it out we've been looking for medicine to help.
Avatar f tn He does not think it is stomach cancer, or my gall bladder or my pancreas and left it up to me whether I want to wait longer to see if it got better or to be scoped. I chose endoscopy and he had an opening this Monday. At least, he will look around my stomach and see if anything is there to cause my symptoms. If not, I guess we can start looking elsewhere if I have no improvement.
Avatar m tn s has healed completely, but I am concerned that continued use of Nexium may result in loss of bone and eventual hip fracture. I take calcum, vitamin D, (and other supplements) and exercise regularly, but I can feel my bones "thinning down" (fingers and toes). Is there anything else I should be doing to keep my bone strength up?
Avatar m tn Protonix and Nexium did NOTHING for me, nor did Aciphex. Prevacid works OK, and my doc suggested Kapidex and I took it for a month. I did about as well on it as the Prevacid if not a tad better. I think Prevacid and/or Kapidex blow away Nexium; although what may be right for me will not be guaranteed for you. My doc gave me a 3 week free-sample of Kapidex, and you take it once a day. I'm always open to trying something new.
Avatar n tn I think there is a difference between bowel/colon polyps which should be removed, and benign stomach polyps caused by PPIs. I was diagnosed today with a stomach polyp and told it was most likely a result of long term use of a PPI (in this case Pariet). Does anyone know if benign stomach polyps develop into something nastier, grow bigger, can be reduced by diet, or changing PPI med?? Thanks This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am a male caucausian 39 who has had gerd for about 15 years, I have had yearly scopes for the past four years and have been on nexium on and off for years. My last scope was Aug 2007, so I am about four months late. I have been having some stomach pain with irregular bowel movements(no blood) also alot of indegestion. been taking My nexium regular again for about a week. My question is how quick does stomach or espohgeal cancer develop. I am concerned because I am late for My scope.
Avatar m tn This initally had good results, but I have evolved into mild constipation and the stomach distress and gas seems to be escalating again. I am taking 300mcg Synthroid, 5mcg Cytomel, daily, vitamins, one HCL and a Digestive enzyme with each meal. I feel pretty good with current thyroid regime, though I do need 10hr of sleep to feel normal, it takes awhile to get going am, and still feel moody. I eat well, lots of veges , cooked and raw, fruit, low meat intake, lots of water.
Avatar f tn There are a lot of people who have tried different meds, you're not alone. Not each med works optimally for each person. You can check out gicare.com to get suggestions on what foods to eat and which to avoid. Diet can play a big part for some people.
Avatar n tn Soda, carbonated drinks, beer, wine and several foods and spices can cause excess stomach acid, like Tomato, and tomato based sauces, onion, garilc, Caffein and chocolate, there is a list on line you can google. Have you ever been tested or biopsied for HPylori bacteria when they did your endoscopy?
Avatar f tn s ability to absorb vital nutrients and this will affect your health. You also need stomach acid to kill off bacteria, fungi and parasites. Nutrients that are malabsorbed due to insufficient/lowered stomach acid include: calcium, vitamin B12, iron, magnesium, selenium, zinc, folic acid, vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6 and vitamin E. Nexium is a short term drug only.
Avatar f tn I also probably should have mentioned that we have a family history of stomach cancer and stomach ulcers, which is also what got me to thinking this. My diet, when I do manage to get it down, is good - no worries there. I do not smoke, and drink alcohol occasionally. My specialist told me about an endoscopy but he said he didn't think I needed one, so instead, told me to wait. Do you really think it's worthwhile going back?
Avatar m tn I have been on Nexium on and off for about 8 years now. Never heard of Nexium being linked with stomach cancer; that's news to me. I do know if you don't control GERD symptoms then you are at risk for developing Barrett's which in turn makes you at risk for Esophageal cancer. So, it is VERY important you get a handle on your reflux. I have read that Nexium or PPIs in general should NEVER be given to a patient IF Stomach cancer is SUSPECTED.
Avatar f tn I'm on Nexium, 20 mg a day, and have been for 5 years. Within the last six months they diagnosed me with PVCs, 8500 a day on average, when I never had them before. Naturally I'd like to get rid of the scary things. But how can you just go off Prilosec or Prevacid without getting acid rebound? I'd like to get off it because too little stomach acid can cause anemia, osteoporosis, and B12 deficiency. PPIs have been implicated in all of these.
41502 tn?1223517053 I was to have the 3rd dose of doxil this past week, but Monday nite, I ate a small bowl of softened raisen bran, and had terrible stomach burning, and then threw up 3 times before it stopped at 2 am. I told my dr last week and she gave me protonics. I cant tell it has helped either, I have to eat small portions of bland food, and have a bad mucous taste all the time. Is this the doxil?
Avatar f tn The ultrasound came back normal and my upper endescopy showed Grade A Reflux and Gastritis. The Dr gave me Nexium, but I was still getting upper stomach pain and pressure in the chest an back. I was switched to Protonix and it seemed to help with the upper stomach pain right under the breastbone. I'm taking two pills a day. Does anyone know how long Protonix takes to work? I was told that some PPI's could take 4 to six weeks to take affect.
Avatar m tn I am terrified that I have cancer like esophageal or stomach cancer, and I have read that lung cancer can start with dysphagia and reflux. I also read that bulimia is linked to esophageal cancer, and I have been bulimic for some years on and off until recently. I also like to drink hot drinks which is linked to this type of cancer. Doctor not worried becaused I'm young, but Im getting panic attacks and constant worry as I have a new baby and partner that I love.
Avatar f tn I had an endoscopy and a biopsy and was tested for stomach cancer and h pylori both for negative. I have a breath test scheduled but it's not for over a month. They found gastritis in my endoscopy. This could be what's causing my stomach issues. My stomach is also very very swollen and I'm a skinny person so it's very noticeable. I am so helpless. I have tried acid meds like nexium, Prilosec, dexilant and none helped.
Avatar m tn My mother lost weight (without changing her diet) when she stopped nexium and gaviscon and started digestive enzymes and betaine HCI with pepsin. I had a look online about this based on the fact that lower stomach acid is a cause of poor digestion. A quick google search and i found the article "Poor Digestion Can Make You Fat" by William McKenna. Hmmm. So can you have your aussie hamburgers and lose weight too? If you digest your food well the odds are better...
Avatar f tn He has had very bad stomach problems since we met 2 years ago and now is just getting worse. He has been having problems such as: Massive amounts of heartburn, bad indigestion, throwing up at times ( no blood ) and also always has gas 90 percent of the day. He followed up with his doctor on this and I do not think they did the right thing by giving him Nexium. Since he has been on the nexium he has gained 20-30lbs and is now feeling bloated and worse than before.
Avatar n tn If you have had a vagotomy, taking Nexium is not advised, A vagotomy reduces acid production and the Nexium also reduces acid production. My advice, having gone through the same surgery ,is to stop taking the Nexium, which by the way is not recommended for use more than 14 days. Take a fiber supplement mixed with water and a teaspoon of cider vinegar before every meal . If you should have occasional acid stomach symptoms, take regular Tums.
Avatar f tn Since month ago I been having a constant lump sensation on my throat that comes and go. I read It could be Gloubus Sensation" and the main causes are strees o GERD . I had an endoscopy about two weeks ago I was diagnosed with GERD , a little Heital Hernia, Duodenitis without bleeding and a Decreased Peristalsis in the Stomach suggestive of Gastroparesis. They also took me some biopsies but now I'm wating for the results in two weeks. The Dr.
Avatar f tn nexium and prilosec are both PPI's therefore they make less stomach acid causing slower digestion of food...causing slower metabolism...thus gaining weight i would reccommend maalox max or maybe TUMS but try full strength...if those dont work then stick to your meds...
