Nexium and heart palpitations

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium and heart palpitations

nexium

Avatar n tn I woke up a couple of months ago with 30 minutes of heart palpitations, and then chest gas followed. Eventually a lot of head pressure followed that, with my ears popping. I had been written up as having GERD symptoms years ago, for other reasons, but I never had connected on and off moments of dizziness with GERD. And this time because of the timing, I thought "Ohhhh, this gas has to do with my heart.
Avatar f tn He went to ER and to the cardiologist more than once to be checked out and they did EKGs, echocardiogram tests, etc. and could not come up with any heart cause for the palpitations. He worried that maybe the Nexium or Prevacid, etc. might be causing or aggravating the palpitations. My Mom suggested he try just taking sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) instead of pills when he had heartburn symptoms. He made the switch and says he doesn't have palpitations anymore. Just a thought...
Avatar f tn Turns out it was Nexium causing the palpitations and high blood pressure. I stopped taking it and my palpitations have reduced considerably and my blood pressure is now low. Nexium = poison!
Avatar f tn I was advised to take a bit of epsom salt/magnesium sulfate for it and it has been helping a lot. However, the heart racing and pounding have not completely gone away and I've been getting them the most after eating, especially when I eat complex carbs, so I'm wondering if my heart issues could have anything to do with blood sugar levels (or anything related) that could have been caused by any of the meds that I've taken this past year.
Avatar f tn I hear all over the place that acid reflux and GERD can cause irritation of the heart and or esophagus and cause pvcs/Pacs. Try taking care of the acid reflux then see how you feel. ALso never lay down after eating, it will cause it to be worst.
Avatar f tn It started with heart palpitations and vomiting, then i had abdominal or gas pain. stomach feels uncomfortable after eating.i went to a physician and he prescribed me zantac. i also had my blood checked for a deficiency in anything. results were norma except that i had a UTI infection. now i'm on zantac and an antibiotic. unfortunately i'm struggling with extreme fatigue upon standing, rapid heart rate some coughing and sometimes dizziness. This has been going on for three weeks.
Avatar f tn It felt like someone pinched by heart, then it pounded hard, and I felt numb and cold and dizzy (like I was going to faint). It only last for less than a minute. I do have a appointment with the cardio tomorrow. I had just started taking Nexium 2 days before (for the GERD) and I have been having a lot of stress (I had a breast lump that came back benign). I got that news the day before the episode, so you would think I would be elated, not having strange heart stuff.
Avatar n tn I've wondered that too, although I have ventricular arrhythmia (PVCs) instead. I've also wondered if the acid reducers could have caused the irregular beat problem. I do know that reflux and associated gas/bloating that I get after my evening meal seem to make the heart arrthythmia worse, and that I feel it more then. Also, I've read that PPIs, like Prilosec or Nexium (which I take) have heart arrhythmia listed as a "less common" side effect.
Avatar m tn Some drug companies will supply the drug for those who can't afford it. Find out who makes nexium, and contact them It sounds like you really need the nexium, and should make it a priority. Ask your Dr for samples, also. The sooner you start taking it the sooner you will feel better. May even help the night sweats, who knows. Just get the med!
Avatar f tn I may have gastritis or a stomach ulcer and the gastroenterologist I saw suggested that I try taking Nexium to see if it relieves my symptoms (I have heart palpitations that get worse shortly after eating, with no heart abnormalities). I had upper stomach pain a few weeks before the palpitations started and was instructed (by another specialist, a nurse) to take the Nexium but I never finished the bottle since the pain went away.
Avatar f tn For the first 2 days, I felt my abdomen was full of gas, and I was having uncontrollable anxiety and heart palpitations (overactive nervous system response to gut inflammation?). I cut beans out of my diet to reduce gassiness and the heart palpitations subsided. I even managed to exercise twice this week; however, the nausea persists, as does the right-side abdominal discomfort which is sometimes felt under my right rib, sometimes in my back rib area, and sometimes in my right flank.
Avatar f tn i have been searching these sights for almost two years trying to find someone who has the same symptoms i do. i am having a flare up as i sit here writing this tonight. for over 10 years i have been "suffering" alone and not much hope or help from the medical community. upon initial test 10 years ago, i was diagnosed with pvc's and gerd. taking heart meds and nexium did absolutely nothing for them except a few extra trips to the hospital every year.
Avatar n tn If you have had a vagotomy, taking Nexium is not advised, A vagotomy reduces acid production and the Nexium also reduces acid production. My advice, having gone through the same surgery ,is to stop taking the Nexium, which by the way is not recommended for use more than 14 days. Take a fiber supplement mixed with water and a teaspoon of cider vinegar before every meal . If you should have occasional acid stomach symptoms, take regular Tums.

Avatar m tn My doctor told me recently that people taking acid reflux meds (such as Nexium or Prilosec) need to know that those drugs also cause magnesium deficiency! What next?
1551963 tn?1302292732 i suffered with acid reflux for years and then i got on some prilosec and my symptoms went away but i started getting bad head aches and it felt like my heart was skipping so i went to the doc and he said i had high blood preasure but my colesteral was good. I then changed my diet and wheened myself off the prilosec and all the symptoms went away.
384099 tn?1226443429 I believe there is a very strong link between anxiety and heart palpitations. On this forum you'll notice that we experience many different flavors of palpitations, that indeed do have a physical basis but are subject to triggers with anxiety being a very big one. I was majorly stressed during the holidays and had major runs of palpitations every day. Now that I'm back to my normal routine they've diminished a lot. Today I had none!
Avatar m tn Are you sure that you have the increased heart rate when you wake and move, or could it be that you are awakened when the heart rate starts upward, then you waken and start moving and have the increased heart rate? If that is a possibilty ( heart rate up, then you are alerted) then I would consider the possibility of sleep apnea and seek out a Sleep Certified doctor for a sleep test. Best wishes. Joan.
Avatar f tn I do have anxiety and am on medicine for that, but my cardiologist put me on metoprolol, a very low dose, trying to help with my heart rate palpitations. I took my 1/2 pill of metoprolol 2 days ago and felt weird, which could have been just nervous bc I was scared of what it would do to my heart rate. My heart rate really hasn't been too high here lately so that's why I was concerned.
Avatar f tn At the moment I am still getting nausea, upper abdo pain/distension, sometimes diarreah/sometimes constipation, some gas (burping and the other end), sharp pains around the gallbladder area and other random areas in my abdomen, as well as random heart thuds and a couple of times it has felt like it's beating a little too fast. The chest pain has happened about three times since October. Lately I have been having some headaches (more than normal) and a stiff/aching neck.
Avatar n tn I have been having chest pains and palpatations for over 10 years. I used to go to the ER when this happened, but stopped as every EKG came back normal. My sister died at age 28 of a heart attack due to high choleterol and birth conrtol pills. About 4 years ago I had severe palpatations and went to a cardiolgist. He did a stress test and EKG and it was fine. Two years later I was having chest pains but the palpitations were not as bad. I just started taking Adderall at the time.
Avatar f tn ve started noticing some heart palpitations. I went back to the doctor who did another EKG and found nothing wrong. The palps aren't constant but don't seem to have any noticable pattern. I started taking my pulse when I got them and my pulse was normal, not high. I also started getting very sensitive to light, again, not constantly and with no discernable pattern.
