Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin withdrawal symptoms

neurontin

Avatar f tn Does anyone know if Neurontin helps alleviate symptoms of withdrawals? I've read it all over the internet that it does, but I find that hard to believe.
Avatar n tn so you are familiar with neurontin?
9704730 tn?1405741284 My doctor put me on neurontin but I think I am now having withdrawal symptoms from neurontin. I have been taking about 900 mg a day since September. It gives me a lot of side effects such as drowsiness and the inability to think quickly. I wanted to know if it is possible that I am still in withdrawal from the tramadol or if it's the neurontin.
Avatar m tn I am getting ready to take my final dose of vicodin today and am very nervous about withdrawal symptoms. I've only experienced a few hours worth and that was enough to scare me sh**less. I've heard that neurontin or gabapentin is great for stopping the nerve pain associated with withdrawal. Has anyone had experience with this?
9704730 tn?1405741284 She is keeping me on neurontin which terrifies me because it causes withdrawal. I tried not taking it and I still have the same withdrawal symptoms. Any help would be great. My doctor is saying this isn't PAWS that I am still in acute withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I have been on Percocet for 10 years and then was taking Ultram to not have withdrawal but after reading all the horror stories on here about Ultram, I tried the Neurontin. I have been on it for 3 days and no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever. I am shocked. I heard it is not addictive either so I'm staying on it for a week or two and then stopping to see if the Perc are out of my system.
Avatar m tn On august 1st, I quit suboxone at 8mg, I had been taking ALOT of neurontin aka gabapentin during the withdrawal to help with symptoms, I was taking around 6,000 to 7,000 mg a day, somedays even 10,000mg but that amount was very rare.

Avatar m tn If a person has been taking hydrocodone for over 5 years and specifically 6 500/50 hydrocodone/apap per day for at least the last 7 months, will there always be withdrawal symptoms? There was no tapering, only a brief two week change to Nuerontin (low dose) for two weeks and then that was increased for another two weeks. After the nuerontin for a total of a month it was cold turkey.
Avatar f tn I just read an old thread on Nuerontin. Am I going to have withdrawal from stopping it. I have to get off of it ASAP as it is causing me bad reactions such as blurry vision among other things. I was on it for about 2 weeks. I was started at 2 pills and told to jump to 6 but only took 6 twice. These were 300 mg capsules. The Sunday and Monday I only took 3 and I'm not taking any today. Thanks for any help.
Avatar n tn ve noticed that some people take gabapentin (Neurontin) to ease the leg pain as well. And tell yourself frequently that these symptoms will diminish and then disappear in a relatively short time.
Avatar n tn As the Klonopin dosage is decreased, the blood plasma declines very gradually. This gradual decline minimizes or prevents withdrawal symptoms from occurring. It would be in your best interest to inquire with the prescribing doctor about implementing Klonopin at a frequency of 0.5 mgs, three times daily as a replacement for Xanax. Repeated dosing of Xanax will lead to loss of efficacy and withdrawal symptoms - regardless of whether you take it or not. This is known as tolerance withdrawal.
Avatar m tn Neurontin SHOULD NOT BE STOPPED ABRUPTLY! NEURONTIN HAS TERRIBLE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS. MAINTAIN ON LOWEST DOSE OF EFFECTIVENESS AND DEFINITELY TAPER OFF!
Avatar m tn Definitely the Neurontin (gabapentin). It takes away most withdrawal symptoms including the restless limbs which for most people is the worst part of the withdrawal. I always had to take a bunch of it though. But the thing is that it makes you very sleepy so when I went through 2.5 days of withdrawal I slept pretty decently. It should work for you since you are on day 11. Good luck and I will be thinking about you! If you cant get Neurontin try some generic (or brand name) immodium.
9704730 tn?1405741284 I will be working with the doctor who helped me in accordance with the doctor who had me on tramadol for 13 years to compile a journal of symptoms/duration of withdrawal in the hopes to enlighten those that still believe tramadol does not have a down side. There are still many doctors who believe that it is not addictive or even physically depending. Anyone who would like to share their imput on tramadol withdrawal so I can pass it along please message me.
Avatar f tn Hi Dear The long term effects of Neurontin are still not known completely. However, Neurontin is a relatively safe and effective treatment for pain. Many patients with painful neruopathy have used Neurontin for many years. Typically the side-effects include somnolence, dizziness, and imbalance. Since you have been using Neurontin for 9 years, there does not seem to be a problem continuing it, even at a slightly increased dose.
Avatar n tn 1 of 3 posts to this question for the experts: I've been taking about 6 Percocet 7.5's &/or Hydrocodone 7.5-10mg 5x's a day for 4 months now for chronic pain. I'm all out & can't get any filled till 3-3 & would like to try my Neurontin 600mg tid to help with the opiate w/d symptoms. I can go get my Rx for Neurontin this am & only have one 7.5 Percocet left. Planning to take 1/2 now & 1/2 at 10am.
Avatar f tn Taking pain medications on a schedule over an extended period of time does produce withdrawal symptoms regardless. Taking a larger dose of opioid pain medication has the potential to produce more severe withdrawal symptoms when discontinued abruptly (aka cold turkey). Working with your doctor on a taper plan can help significantly reduce the withdrawal symptoms and your doctor can provide additional medication to help ease the withdrawal symptoms.
553001 tn?1218811768 Hi Stacy, I just found out yesterday that Neurontin really helps with the withdrawal symptoms. I have been on Percocet for 10 years so I know what you are going through. I tried the Neurontin for the first time today and I couldn't believe it. No withdrawal symptoms whatsoever and I should have been in major withdrawal by 3:00 pm and I still was fine. And the best part of all was I wasn't craving a Percocet like I normally do. I just was shocked.
9704730 tn?1405741284 t know what other symptoms are still there because my doctor is keeping me on neurontin. I know at the beginning the neurontin took away the worst symptoms of insomnia and creepy crawling skin that kept me from sitting still. I am not sure if that would still be there without the neurontin. I am also very afraid to stay on the neurontin. I don't want to have a withdrawal from that.
Avatar f tn Neurontin will continue helping you with a lot of withdrawal symptoms. In fact, it is what I recommend for tapering in most cases. Good luck to you.
Avatar m tn Doubling just the first couple of times caused swelling in my mouth and around my eyes, so I dropped lyrica altogether. In no time I was hit with xanax type withdrawal symptoms: depersonalization, lack of concentration and dizziness being the most frightening. So, I asked to be switched to neurontin and he wrote out 300 mgs. three times daily for me.
Avatar f tn t really pass the blood/brain barrier well. If you really want to treat withdrawal with GABA, the drug to take is Neurontin, if you want to take a drug. To get GABA naturally, best to take taurine, the amino acid that makes it along with B-6, and some relaxant herbs such as kava or passionflower. Withdrawal from Prozac doesn't usually begin if it begins at all until a while after you stop, since it stays in the body for a long time, unlike other ssris.
