Neurontin while pregnant

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin while pregnant

neurontin

For those of you who take Gabapentin (Neurontin): Just curious what side effects you have experienced (and at what dosage), and how long they lasted? I just started this last weekend, 300mg once a day at bedtime. I am having a really hard time waking up in the morning and for the first half of the day I feel a little "loopy" or my head feels "swimmy"....if that makes any sense.....
I've been on several different therapies with short term success. My neurologist recently subscribed neurontin -- 300 mg 3x per day. The medication is really helping -- but I've experienced tremendous weight gain. What alternatives could I explore that would have similar success without the weight gain? Also -- when I do get break through headaches - what treatment plan would you suggest? Imitrex shot and pain med? Thank you for your direction.
I was up to 3,500 mgs a day of Neurontin, when it suddenly stopped working for me. It was good while it lasted though. Now I take Baclofen at night (for nightime leg spasms) and a dose of Klonopin at night to help with Restless Limb Syndrome. (RLS usually runs in family's and as I understand it, gets more pronounced as we age) I tried the Requip but my body apparently does not like the dopamaine in the drug.
Hi EL, I hope you will have better result with Venlafaxine (Effexor or Efexor) than you have had with Neurontin. I did try Neurontin but I too had no noticeable pain releif with it. I have not used Efexor but I can provide you with a bit of information. Efexor, if I have my facts straight was initially manufactured and used as an antidepressant and since has proven to have other actions. Neurontin and Efexor are chemically different.
Welcome, first thing is you need to tell your dr right away that you are pregnant. have you been to an ob yet? i am very hesitant in giving any advice to a pregnant woman as i am not a dr. We have had several pregnant girls on here..There is a wonderful woman named 1234betterlife, she has been or still is an ob nurse,we usually send all our preganat girls to her. i will pm her. Congratulations on your pregnancy though! you must stop taking that many right away. Please start tapering.
I used it also to come off methadone while pregnant... works amazing with no side effect to a forming baby...and actually made going thru wd healthier experience for myself and unborn child...it really is an amazing medication... only used it for 3 to 4 weeks then tapered down...was on 600mg(2pills) a day down to 1 pill(300mg) then no more with no problem for me or baby...don't think I could have handled the mentle part of wd without the neorotin!!! Good luck!!!
We are currently trying to get pregnant and have almost all the same questions that all of you do. I was given tylox while pregnant with my first and it just barely helped. The pain for me is so bad I can barely move at times. I have been told that percocet is okay.
i have noticed that i am not the only one out there that has gained weight while taking methadone. it would be great if anyone can help or have suggestions on losing weight and if it is easy to do. i have read alot of people asking similar questions but no replys on the subject at hand.
all my symptoms that started 8 years ago started with unequal pupils while pregnant with my son. that's why i've contacted chiari care center. unequal pupils and POTS are symptoms of chiari. Chiari is a skull bone malformation that presses on the cerebral tonsils which puts pressure on the brainstem....thus all the crazy symptoms. i just want answers.
through my pregnancy I experienced really bad pain in my back and legs so that was why they gave me the fentanyl and oxycontin to try. The main reason I didn't want to take it while pregnant is that norco is a lower opiate so if my child had withdrawals, thank god he didn't, they would have lasted only days instead of weeks-with him having to be weened in the NICU. That was my choice, and my ob/gyn.
There are many here pregnant and addicted. So you are not alone. I also heard it is dangerous to detox while pregnant. I don't know much about tapering but if you go to Fladdict's name and click on it. It will take you into her profile. I believe she has alot of information on tapering. Keep reading on here you will learn alot and keep us posted. Don't be to rough on yourself. I have heard many posts on here where babies were just fine.
Since starting these treatments, my doc put me on Neurontin 300/3x a day, and Hydrocodone 10/325 every 4 hours. I found out I was pregnant at the beginning of January. I called my doc right away, and she said to discontinue the Neurontin, but to keep taking the Hydrocodone and we would taper in the third trimester. She said it does not cause defects, the only risk is withdrawl.
But the neurologist failed to do his job and find out why when I sit, my perineum burns and I have a burning sensation that goes through my urethra also. Also, while sitting, the back of my legs start to burn very badly, and sometimes my perianal region also. Now, why can't a neurologist tell me what is being affected, given that it seems the nerves of my perineum and my bladder nerves are being compressed/irritated?
My baby us fine, and so is my friends who also did c/t while pregnant. Most would say taper, but id bee hesitant to go back when your 4 days clean. I understand that you can't take the normal meds, as I did not take anything at all, not even the immodium. Your are doing good coming here, keep posting, and we will help you as much as we can.
I am scared to death over this pregnancy at this time I am just about 13 and a half weeks and while the norco is a class 3, so is the neurontin but the neurontin has been known to cause pretty serious birth defects. It is not well known but there are studies out there, Neurontin is an anti seizure med. Besides the risks of birth defects with the diabetes, there are risks to myself with the diabetes and pregnancy as well.

I am 21 weeks pregnant with my first child. I use to be a heroin addict and have been on subutex! I am also on a low dose of xanax because of my severe anxiety! I take Gabapentin for pain since its a non narcotic....On top of it all I have asthma and I am smoking!!!!!! I see a specialist and she says everything looks perfect but how can I be sure? Should I go into rehab????
I am 23, have been married to my 29 year old husband for 1 year, and am 8 months pregnant with his child. He also has an 8 year old boy from a previous marriage, and I have a 2 year old daughter. When I met/married him, I had absolutely no idea that he was an addict or struggled with addiction. However, after the past year, in hindsight all of the signs are all so very clear. My husband has truly shattered any trust or security that I had with him.
I did get a new prescription of neurontin, and went on it for a while, but then I tappered off and have been off for a couple of weeks. I can tell that the pain is getting worse, but I hopefully will only have to deal with it for a little while because I am hoping to become pregnant. Yeah! (The last time I became pregnant everything went away and I felt better then ever, that didn't last for long after the baby was born and it came back with a vengeance, but oh well).
is there any information out there about high rate of reoccurance of an episode while pregnant or just after delivery? None of my symptoms started until the day after my delivery. I had a normal, easy pregnancy but during delivery I had severe preclampsia. Any help you could offer would be very much appreciated. Neither my OB or Neurologist has advised against getting pregnant again, but I am just wondering what the chances of reoccurance are.
was she checked for hormone levels...the reason I ask is u said once she was pregnant it stopped for a while and the body adjusts and creates diff levels of hormones while pregnant.....so it may be she is lacking something while not pregnant??
Talk to your PMP that you see now and see what their views are on this and if they can treat you. I know that Neurontin will be stopped as it is not safe to take while pregnant. It is each Doctor's decisions as to what they prescribe and feel comfortable prescribing.
While I don't have the exact info on the pregnancy effects of these drugs, I can point you in the direction of your pharmasist. They do have the exact information as to what "class" these drugs are in and how they might effect a pregnancy. I will say, no matter what, you are on a potent "soup" of prescription medications. I would be fearful of the effects of all those drugs on myself, let alone a developing fetus.
My experience in researching and asking questions about birth control is that they mess you up more than they help, especially in the long run. While a handful of women become pregnant while on BC or right after getting off of BC, many more women have fertility issues later after coming off BC. Sounds like BC just isn't going to work for you! And it seems as though it is making you miserable. There are other forms of BC that won't harm you.
I live in pain almost all the time. o have weaned off my neurontin to get pregnant but still am taking oxycodone for pain..probably 60 mg/ day. I don't want to hurt the baby but really suffer alot with pain. I know the risks of an opiate addicted baby. does anyone have a similar experience w chronic pain and pregnancy. I feel so guilty for taking these meds. also does anyone know when u can get off of them and the baby not suffer withdrawal? ?? help!!
Now the pain level I had before taking neurontin is back, but I am on neurontin. So is the medication no longer working or are things getting worse. I am guessing worse because the above post by me is what happens when I miss a pill. It is getting worse by the day. Is this typical of MS or Fibro? I am just curious.
I have had six mcarriages due to the fact that i have idiopatic pancreatitis . Dr's think its hereditary but theres nothin they can do but treat symptomatically. So my question is can i stay on my methadone , dilaudid , soma & neurontin while pregnant ? If i get off of them like i have before my amylase & lipase go very high & i end up in the hospital so i really dont have a choice ! Thanks for your time !
I was going to pain management up until I found out I was pregnant. I was getting steriod injections and was on neurontin and vicodin for pain. However now that I am pregnant I do not take anything. I am out of ideas to help myself. It scares me because I am only 7 weeks along and to think about what I am going to be like when I am 30 weeks or more just really terrifies me. Does anyone have any suggestions?
