I was taken off Pregabalin and put onto Neurontin (it's known as Gabapentin here) las t year and aprt from horrible heartburn if I take the tablets on an empty stomach I've been able to tolerate it quite well - I'm on 800mg x 3 per day

I have recently seen my Neurologist, who has confirmed I am suffering with Anxiety and has suggested I go on a drug called Pregabalin and he has said it will help my sleep problem. My question is has anyone had any experiences with this drug, if so comments very welcome.
Please be careful with using Neurontin... my husband who is addicted to opiates has become addicted to the Neurontin as well. It may sound silly, and I don't have a ton of knowledge on drugs and such, but you can find and read countless forums with people talking about how they abuse the drug, and the horrible withdrawals they go through when running out of it.

Lyrica is 'pregabalin', a different chemical from Neurontin, or 'gabapentin'. They are similar in function though; they both bind -to and inhibit the same neuronal structure-- a voltage-gated calcium channel. Both medications reduce the flow of calcium into certain nerve terminals; the calcium would normally trigger the release of the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate, or Substance P, a chemical involved in pain transmission.
Currently, the 2 most effective medications for peripheral neuropathy that we have available are gabapentin (Neurontin) and pregabalin (Lyrica). The latter is a newer drug and is more expensive than the first. I generally tend to start with gabapentin and will switch to pregabalin if the gabapentin isn't doing the trick. The mediactions may not take away all of your symptoms, although ideally, they will dampen them considerably.
so im nearly day 9 now and dont feel too bad at all apart from the odd sneeze.i used pregabalin for the pain and zopiclone too sleep at night.i live in uk and doctors here were i live are strict so we managed to buy a few here and there from street dealers.i know i was only on a low dose of subutex but i would preech to anyone to try this out if u can when about to start a subbie detox.thanks azza..
Gained 40 lbs within in 6 months of starting Neurontin. Started losing hair when began Neurontin. Fortunately I had lots of hair to start with but 8 years later, I will soon have to wear a wig because of the dramatic hair loss. Also frustrated that cannot get the 40 pounds off either. Do you have any suggestions for other meds or treatments for nerve pain?
Failed Lyrica and depression meds did not touch nerve pain. Physical therapy, tens, muscle stim made nerve pain worse.
Perhaps a reduced dose might help you with the drowsiness. Perhaps another medication, pregabalin, might be more effective with less side effects.
Talk to your doc.
A combination of low dose amitriptyline (10 - 50 mg at night) plus gabapentin (300 - 1800 mg per day) or pregabalin (50 - 600 mg per day) produces the best pain relief with the lowest incidence of side effects. (taken from some site I don't remember)
Tegretol, Neurontin, Lyrica, or Keppra are the most used medicines
Antidepressants and anticonvulsants are also used

Examination by a phisio, orthopedic surgeon and podiatrist have not been able to help. I have been prescibed various drugs including baclofen and pregabalin but still no joy. Anyone have a similar experience and information would be appreciated.
Other people have listed Trileptal (Oxcarbazepine), Neurontin (Gabepentin), Elavil (Amitriptyline) and Lyrica (Pregabalin) as some alternatives.
I am currently on Lyrica + Cymbalta. I can't say that it's working but still playing with dosages.
Anyone reading, please feel free to add your own choices and/or experiences.
If the Lyrica did not agree with you then the gabapentin/neurontin might work for you. I am switching back to the neurontin right now as I've gotten totally sick of the meds. So I have some wd's chasing me as we speak. I'm giving it another try as there is mention of it easing the wd's so we shall see... You may want to try it. If it doesn't seem to do anything for you after a week, then drop them.
my daughter has had 2 surgeries for pituiatry tumour, radiotherapy, she still has remnant tumour, (Acromegaly) but also has facial ear and neck pain, which prof says is because tumour is pressing on trigeminal nerve, tried amytrplin, never worked, 3 weeks ago prof put her on Pregabalin, small dose then up to 300 a day, within a few days of upping the dose, she has been in more pain than ever, crying, agitated, and said she thought she had pain before, but now this is unbearable, they have told
s become an outdated treatment modality. NEURONTIN and gabapentin are the same thing. Lyrica is a similar drug (pregabalin) used for neuropathy and is a seizure med as well.
Hotleo: Give the doctor's recommendation a try and not just one time. Then discuss other options if the side effects don't settle down. Are these meds helping you manage your pain at all?
ve found is that with several of these patients, part of the pain is neuropathic in origin (pain due to damage to nerves because of the mastectomy). Addition of another drug which directly controls neuropathic pain, such as gabapentin (Neurontin) or pregabalin (Lyrica) usually eases the symptom. This may work for you. You can use heating pads, for as long as you do not apply excessive heat and macerate the tissue surrounding the wound.
