Neurontin replacement

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin replacement

neurontin

Has anyone had an experience with neurontin? It was prescribed for burning hands and feet and I feel very wierd and crazy..and dizzy.
I have been taking Neurontin for 12 months now, since nerve damage occurred during total hip replacement surgery last year. I am currently taking 3600mg/day (900mg x 4) and have been at this dosage for 6 months, previously at 2400mg/day. I have recently had a neurostimulation system implanted for the neuropathic pain, but use of Neurontin is still called for at this point due to symptoms. My concern is with long term use and side effects of Neurontin (mid-forties male, 170 lbs).
I have neuropathy from a total knee replacement. Lyrica and Neurontin are awful. I am now using TENS unit and finding relief from constant burning sensation in my knee and shin. No side effects, some results. Worth thinking about.
When I used my scripts too early and couldnt find any street drugs I searched the internet for other means of beating this nightmare we call opiate withdrawl. The drug that has saved my rear end is Neurontin (gabapentin). I had a script for 600 mg pills. I'm 6'2" and 220 and i took 2 of the 600 mg tabs. Was in full blown withdrawl but slept great for 7 hours. Woke up feeling kind of loopy, but no symptoms of withdrawl at all!! I couldn't believe it.
I have tried both Lyrica and Neurontin, the results of each have gotten worse over time. Neurontin makes taking percosets almost worthless. My pain management doctor wants me to use morphine.
I had a total hip replacement in Nov. 1996 and suffer from chronic pain from the THR. The images are good, only thing the Orthopods do is check for loosening, I have been to many of them. If they cannot see anything wrong then there is nothing wrong, I remember how fast they found something wrong to perform a surgery!! Many people suffer as I do and connot prove it, logic used by the Orthopods; if it cannot be seen it does not exist.
What would you suggest as a replacement for Tramodol? I know no one is a doctor, I am just looking for suggestions that I can research. Thanks for taking the time to read!
I had Total Knee Replacement surgery done on my left knee in January of 2005. Shortly thereafter, I cracked my femur and started having severe knee spasms. I was put in a straight brace and put on bed rest. They then referred me to a neurologist who discovered a small tumor or lesion in the left side pf my brain. Neurosurgeons said it was unrelated because it was on the left side of my brain and the spasms were on the left side of my body. I did a seizure syudy, and I do not have seziures.
My neurologist prescribed Neurontin 600 mg/day (Gabapentin) ) and I'm totally panicked about gaining a lot of weight or being dizzy and not able to work or drive. Please share your experiences with this medication. I had really bad experiences with other medications and I don't want to start with it without knowing what could cause. I'm feeling numbness on my left thigh for the last 3 days and today I could hardly walk due to pain in all my leg.
If they tell you your pains normal and won't see you, tell them you need an increase in dosage, you might also suggest trying Neurontin or Lyrica. It help me a little bit when I was recovering. I hope I misunderstood you about the smoking, because you can't smoke AT ALL, cutting down isn't going to do it. I used to be a smoker too, so I understand, but this is real important. Do you want to go through this all over again because of some lousy cigarettes?
I'm now 43 years old. I've been waiting 3 years for disc replacement surgery to be a little more mainstream treatment. I'm interested in hearing anything about this procedure for the C-spine. I'm considered a surgery candidtate for c-5/6 and c-6/7 levels.

But when the problem was finally discovered by a xray obtained by a neurosurgeon, in less than 2 months was having total left hip replacement. But pain has never decreased. It was also discovered that his right hip was getting in the same shape as his left hip. He has not yet had surgery for that one. He has had nerve conduction study saying that everthing is ok, but yet he leg is numb from knee down. He has severe pain in left hip and thigh.

I have had both hips replaced. After a revision on my right hip replacement I suffered a dislocation of the hip one month after the operation. Now I have pain inthe trochanter area on both hips and lower left back after the doctor put the hip back in place. All the doctors say trochanter bursitis but I have trtied everything from rehab to neurontin and cortisone but nothing stops the constant aching pain. I have had some success with Tramadol and some hydocodone at night.
i am wanting to share what i know about gabapentin. I have been on the drug for about eight months now. gabapentin has stopped my night sweats, hot flashes and daily fever. I currently take 300mg. three times a day. the drug was prescribed for symptoms that occur with fibromyalgia. what i have mentioned above are the only symptoms that i have gotten relief from. the only downside so far is uncontrollable urine urgency(not able to always make it to the bathroom have to race) and dizziness.
Neurontin, as a rule, is not habit forming, i.e., it's not a narcotic. I have MS and, as HelpinUtah alluded to, Neurontin is prescribed, in general, for nerve pain. My neurologist has had me on Neurontin for MS related pain in my legs, and I can tell you it's not habit forming. I presume you have some type of similar symptoms for your doc to prescribe it (?). I hope this helps ..
my nerve pain in my legs has gone suddenly from manageable with neurontin, to sriously worse and im gettinf no relief from anything ive used tylenol, neurontin ibuprofen, and oxycontin over night and only got my pain from 9 plus to8 and im in excruciating pain!!!
2 discectomy, 1 artificial disc replacement at L5 S1. My last surgery was the disc replacement over 2 years ago. I've had chronic sciatic pain and numbness progressively worsening. My left foot and back of my left leg are constantly in severe pain and numb to the touch. I've been on Neurontin and Lyrica at high doses, neither working. The only thing that seems to lessen the pain and let me relax a little is narcotic based pain relievers in higher doses.
I'm a 58 y/o female who had a left total knee replacement 15 months ago with a subsequent MRSA sepsis. I underwent a second surgery where the left knee was debrided and the plastic part of the joint replacement was changed. I was treated with 8 weeks of IV Vanco and oral Rifampin. Now I have continual pain in my left buttock with "sores" only on the left side only. I continue with pain in the left buttock muscle, as well as most of my other joints.
It is very close to the areola area but shows no tenderness. It has not gotten worse. I had a hip replacement in January with nerve complications so am taking neurontin to dull the nerves. Could it be something other than IBC? I have no other symptoms.
It took about a year before they finally referred me to a Rheumatologist with 3 sets of positive test results for LUPUS with Ruematoid Arthritis and Connective Tissue disease. I have been on Methotrexate injections, Lodine, Lasix and now Neurontin. I still hurt and my lab work still isn't showing the improvement that I had hoped. Docs are now talking about damage being bad enough in my right knee that I may need replacement surgery.
1200mg neurontin 1mg klonopin 20 mg lexapro, every morning and 600mg neurontin and 1mg klonopin in the eve. Neurontin has shown to be a mood stabilizer and good for anxiety. It helps...
About 2-3 days after getting the replacement lens, I noticed I had developed ghosting/double vision in my right eye. It's more noticeable at night when looking at street lights or illuminated signs and pretty much unnoticeable during the day. Could my double vision/ghosting have been triggered by this? If not, it seems a coincidence.
my opinion is that it is not addictive, i have been on neurontin for about a month now, missed doses...etc... never had a problem yet...neurontin is NOT lyrica, but it is in the same type of drug class... i recommend it for anyone looking for an alternative for chronic pain...a nonaddictive alternative...
this pain seams to be in front side of the thigh area right about where the bottom of the replacement joint would be in the femur, wich is why I had the replacement checked out. could this be a pinched nerve in the back even though it dose not radiate down from the back and is on the front and front side areas of the thigh. that seams to be the area affected.
My journey began about 5 years ago with intermittent muscle stiffness in my left hip. Doctors didn't know what was causing it - so off to PT I went. The PT made it worse, although the stretching seemed to help. After 3 months of PT I was frustrated by no progress/more pain. I went to a low force chiropractor, who after about 6 visits gave me some relief.
