neurontin lyrica

Seriously? Because I have Lyrica as well. I was wondering why Lyrica was a controlled substance. Perhaps there is a potential for abuse, although when I took it for my problem, it only made me feel dizzy. Do you think Lyrica could help with withdrawal of a 6-7 daily dose of 30mg Oxycodone?

My Dr and I discussed putting me on Lyrica (which I was on a few years ago, but stopped taking, don't recall why) and I called my pharmacist because she told me about the huge side effect of weight gain with Lyrica, it's almost guaranteed, and my pharmacist told me that Lyrica is a dirivative of Neurontin, which has a much lower incidence of weight gain, and they are nearly the same medications. I then decided to go on Neurontin instead.

I was prescribed 300mg of lyrica per day (was on 1600mg neurontin). I have been getting along just fine on 75-150mg lyrica with no noticeable side effects so far. All things considered I am doing better and feeling better then I was before but not miraculously so. My copay for lyrica is 5X more then neuronton so that hurts a bit more. :-) Thanks again to all!

my opinion is that it is not addictive, i have been on neurontin for about a month now, missed doses...etc... never had a problem yet...neurontin is NOT lyrica, but it is in the same type of drug class... i recommend it for anyone looking for an alternative for chronic pain...a nonaddictive alternative...

I felt like I was taking air when I first started on it because I switched from Lyrica to Neurontin and they are chemically very similar. Neurontin is kind of a weaker version of Lyrica. I've been told the start up side effects on Neurontin are about the same as Lyrica and it took me a little less than a week for that sleepy dopey feeling to subside, and after that I felt ABSOLUTELY normal- like I hadn't taken anything whatsoever.

then i would have to say give it a try, it is pricey, and sometimes insurance dosent always cover it, so if not covered by insurance, ask about neurontin, i take neurontin 600 mgs three times a day and it helps with my everyday pain quite well. lyrica and neurontin are in the same class of drugs and are not physically addictive.

Has anyone taken lyrica for fibromylasia and found increased pain instead of decrease?

Hi, db. Wish I were more knowledgeable about the chemistry involved but I must confess I'm a total ignoramus on that score. However, that doesn't stop me (does anything??) from having a few comments. First, you also need to consider your quality of life. Having to sleep and get up at precise times and plan your life around this is horrible, and in my opinion should be avoided if at all possible. Neurontin is not the only act in town and you're already on a high dose.

Lyrica is so new and dangerous (per my neurologist). I just lost my job, car, driver's license etc because of Lyrica causing narcolepsy symptoms. I wish I had never heard of it and had stuck with Neurontin.

Since surgery he has been on Lyrica but it was changed to Neurontin 7 days ago as he was getting some edema in his feet and ankles. His last doses of Neurontin were yesterday because he has again developed the same edema but now it has extended to calves of both legs. The edema has not subsided, in fact, it is somewhat worse. His legs are not hot or red, but walking is more difficult because of the swelling. Is there another possible cause for the edema?

I realized during that short time how much the neurontin had been helping! Neurontin (and I think lyrica too) has a short 1/2 life, so you can tell very soon when you stop. So, again, just wondering if anyone else who carefully and slowly upped theire dose over the course of a couple of weeks then had a big swing from "this stuff is great!" to "this stuff is better than nothing," or if I'm the only one.

I have been diabetic for 39 years and have neuropathies. I take neurontin, motrin and when it gets really bad, nortriptyline. The latter makes you gain a lot of weight. I have to take neurontin every 3-4 hours because I need to keep the levels of meds up in my system. Otherwise, the pain starts. If lyrica doesn't work she may want to change to neurontin--it works well. Please tell your daughter not to blame herself. It is not helpful or productive.

Hi, I have had 3 failed back surgeries and now have an SCS unit installed. I still take Lyrica and pain meds. Lyrica is suspost to make the nerve endings (dead) or just not as touchy. I have been on both Lyrica and Neurontin and the Lyrica does help me some. Not as much as my Dr wanted but it gives me about another 5-10% pain reduction. It does not help everyone even if they have the same problems.

Neurontin is less expensive in most drug plans and some drug plans require you to have been tried on the Neurontin prior to being prescribed the Lyrica. I have had patients who could not tolerate the Lyrica but could the Neurotin and vice versa. They are both good medications but the benefit of Lyrica is that although the side-effects of the drugs are the same, the Lyrica side effects are in general 1/3 to 1/2 of the Neurontin, which is the main prescribing point of this medication.

I am currently on Neurontin (gabapentin), and wanting to switch to Lyrica. I have heard great things about it. I suffer from nerve pain from scoliosis and am on painkillers too. I am hoping the switching to lyrica will help with the amount of painkillers I need to take in the run of a day. A friend of mine suffers from Fibromyalgia and started taking Lyrica over a month ago and has had wonderful results. Best of luck trying out the Lyrica!

Hello! My Dr prescribed me Lyrica and I have been readin about this drug, but I can't seem to find anything telling me what is in it. Does anyone know the ingredients? I was told it was a non-narcotic drug but then the leaflet says that it can be addictive and do not stop immediately..blah,blah, blah...does anyone know what is in this stuff?

s. I took Neurontin for a long time before Lyrica came on the market. With Lyrica, I had alot of swelling my legs and a craving for sweets. Whether a craving for sweets is a side-effect, I doubt the drug maker would admit it. But I did gain weight. And weight gain is my worst enemy. I have fought being over-weight most of the last 40 years. Neurontin works well for some people, so do anti-seizure medications.

My doc switched me from Neurontin to Lyrica because she said it had less side effects. She was wrong. A month later, the right side of my face went numb and I could not talk--I felt like I had mush mouth and thought maybe I was having a stroke. I talked to the pharmacist and he said 15 % of patients on Lyrica get ataxia, so he was not surprised. I went off of it and went back on the Neurontin. My doc told me some of her patients became incontinent on Lyrica so be careful.

Re: meds and weight gain, I'm on 3600mg of Neurontin per day and it hasn't caused increased appetite or weight gain. Lyrica did - it stimulated my appetite and I ate like a pig and had to stop it. Amitriptyline did cause some weight gain initially, between 5 - 20 lbs but after a while it eased off. The first few doses of Cesamet also made me really hungry but that seems to have stopped, and I only take it on nights when my pain is really bad.

Was told that I was going through withdrawal symptoms from the Lyrica. Can this be possible even though I was taking Lyrica for a short period of time? Sorry if this does not make sense. Have been seen by a few doctor's, gone through many tests, the list goes on........

Besides Lyrica and Neurontin, what other pain med is really out there for Fibromyalgia? I have taken both. Loved the Lyrica. I had no pain but the side effects were terrible, including the two broken toes. My GP put me on Neurontin and I am up to 600mg as of last Friday. One 300mg in the morning and one of the same at bedtime. I still have pain but not quite as bad but u know it's still there. I have some side effects from it, too, especially legs and ankles swelling daily.

good luck to you with the neurontin and the shot. the lyrica was awful as far as the weight gain. Does neurontin have that effect as well? I am watching my girlish figure and don't want anything that is gonna blow me up....

I have taken both neurontin and Lyrica. I was on Neurontin for approx13 years. I finally reached the maximum dose with no pain relief. My doc has now given me Lyrica. I took it 3 months last summer, and it was marvelous. I didn't have any depression, and I had lots of energy. I could even exercise and swim. I stopped taking it because it did make me gain weight, and I am diabetic....need to lose not gain. So then he switched me to Tizanidine and Citoprolam.
