Neurontin for recreational use

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin for recreational use

neurontin

Avatar f tn Recreational use Although gabapentin is not a controlled substance, it does produce psychoactive effects that cause it to have potential for recreational use. Even in low doses, Gabapentin causes sensations of reduced acute pain, reduced anxiety and even a tendency to become overly social and talkative. Larger doses can cause the user to become numb and even fully insensate. It has also been called upon to reduce opiate withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Neurontin for 9 years for Fibro. A neurologist prescribed it. I take 800 mg at night and 400 mg in the morning, and sometimes, 400 in the afternoon if I need to be able to go somewhere at night. I tried to get off of it and I was back in bed again in pain and extremely fatigued. I decided quality of life was better than quantity. What are the long term effects of its use? Is it possible that it may trigger Alzheimer's?
874521 tn?1424116797 I've been on 1800 mg neurontin for 4-5yrs now...but its no longer working as it once did..and I have been using 2100mg (on my own) for a few weeks now but think I need even higher dose...so will mention to my doctor when I get rx refilled. My question is: Is there anyone that has been on this med for a long time and at a high dose? And what are the side effects of long term high doses? (other than the generically silly ones they give on some sites)...I want PERSONAL experiences..
1415174 tn?1453243103 I have been taking 900 mg/day Neurontin for a back injury for the last 6 months. I was on other meds, Celebrex, Skelaxin and am off of all except Neurontin. I have tapered the Neurontin to 500mg/day. This question is related to side effects that may be due to Neurontin or maybe my migraines. When I was on a higher dose of Neurontin I was getting almost daily visual disturbances in both eyes that looked like what my migraine auras look like but those are in one eye and are followed by a headache.
Avatar n tn And I am not even sure if you could call coke use recreational - for the people that really like it (your BF is one) there is no recreational use a time or two a month or whatever. Its a slow ride downhill to all of the negatives you have heard about it. I cant make your mind up for you - but I would say if your BF says he wont marry you without the other girl along .... send him packing. Perhaps have him read some things from the Grandfather of coke himself - Sigmund Freud......
Avatar m tn Otherwise all drugs are krap to me, recreational use? What is that????????? I often thought I could use recreationally, trust me I was wrong. When in doubt, go without!!
Avatar m tn s marijuana use is not deemed excessive and does not interfere with daily function, subject must be instructed to discontinue any current use of recreational marijuana prior to entry into study and throughout the study period
Avatar f tn Has anyone else been prescribed neurontin for headaches? My neurologist said that MRI was fine other than a small venous angioma and seemed to think my headaches (continuous for two months) are caused by neck and muscle problems. He put me on neurontin which has greatly improved my headaches but I've already gained six pounds in three weeks. Besides that I feel like I'm in a fog, forgetful, and generally kind of "duh huh" feeling. I can't take Topomax because of glaucoma.
Avatar f tn I don't know. I remember taking it as a mood stabilizer for a while (it didn't work in that capacity but then again that's an off label use). I didn't have any severe side effects of concern, some dizziness, fatigue, nervousness and some minor nausea, all of which might have gone away in time if I had stayed on it longer.
Avatar m tn t help with the pain but after doing some research on it I found out it helps for many other things. There are rehabs that use it for detoxing. I know how you don't want to trade one drug for another. That is why I just used it for a short amount of time. It doesn't give you a buzz or the warm fuzzy feeling. So for me it wasn't addicting. Not it is not addicting but wasn't for me. I have been through withdrawals before without taking anything so I know how difficult there are.
Avatar n tn Hi, I, too, was prescribed lyrica but chose not to take it for the reasons you stated. Have you considered neurontin? It is a sister drug to lyrica, works on nerve pain, etc., but has been around for a long time and (I believe) is not as "side effect-y" as lyrica. I take neurontin, have for years. It helps I believe it is milder; lyrica has the nerve pain med but also other componants.
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome to MedHelp. I also take percocet along with neurontin (gabapentin). The gabapentin is very similar to lyrica. I drink coffee 4-5 days per week and I haven't encountered any issues and I have been on percocet for almost a year and gabapentin for almost 2 years. I don't think there are any severe reactions when coffee is mixed with percocet or lyrica or both.
Avatar f tn He also takes 1800 mg daily of neurontin for the neuropathy. Neurologist says the only cure for the neuropathy is treatment for the HCV. His hepatologist wants to wait for new drugs. This situation is growing worse daily, My husband says if I tell his transplant dr about the drug use he will leave. Do you have any suggestions or advice? Thanks for your help.
481056 tn?1240138727 You posted asking if it's ok to use recreationally not long ago, I think you got your answer just like we told you. Addicts can't use once, it just opens the door for us to spiral down and with each relapse it gets so much harder. Are you really ready to quit, because your stealing his pills and thinking 1 here and there is ok. You should focus more on the mental part, than w/d's, get some type of aftercare and talk to your hubby about this again.
Avatar n tn To joke about some one considering taking cocaine for recreational use who has had three bypass surgeries and is taking blood thinners is just a little reckless. Takes all kinds I guess........................
Avatar f tn Does oxycontin as recreational use exhibit symptoms of indifference and apathy and unconcern over everyday obligations and responsibilities which prior to use were contradictory to the persons character. In other words a complete change of personally untecogisable by loved ones?
630344 tn?1280104983 I'm taking the generic form, just recently resumed but have used it in the past. Neurontin is Rx-ed for nerve pain as an "off label" use, that it, treating nerve pain is not the function for which it was designed so it's not listed as a use on the manufacturer's label. It is actually an anti-seizure med, but it was found to also reduce neuropathy in patients. It is my understanding that Lyrica works much in the same way, and is a newer medication by the same company.
459075 tn?1224121598 I have been on the neurontin for over 3 months now so i dont really think it could be a side effect from that. Anyone got any advise?
Avatar n tn I am currently tapering from 30+ mg methadone and 20_ hydros a day using neurontin and a few hydros for pain. So far so good. Sub was simply too complex for me to deal with....
Avatar m tn ve used it honestly to get through until I find pills or can refill a script. I cant use it for pain maintenance-- just like you. I only use it cuz its better for me than withdrawals. Have u had any experience with tramadol or ultram helping with withdrawals??
Avatar n tn NOT FOR LONG...YOU MAY START OUT ONLY ON WEEKEND BUT IT WILL escalate. i used coke for 5 years heavily and i started out only on the weekends. before long it was everyday all day and every night all night. it is a horrible drug the eventually completely robs you of yourself.
Avatar m tn ve heard that neurontin or gabapentin is great for stopping the nerve pain associated with withdrawal. Has anyone had experience with this?
1310035 tn?1305621642 Neurontin (brand name for gabapentin) helps with nerve pain. It is very commonly used in MS. Another med for this purpose is Lyrica. If one doesn't work or the side efffects are too much, then the other can be tried, but the two are very similar. Hope this helps.
