Avatar m tn Uh oh...Mike! Do you know why Tramadol helps with withdrawals??? It's an opiate. Just so you know. I'm scared of the stuff! Some have used it for detox/wd's,some doctors prescribe it just for opiate withdrawal. It's an opiate, synthetic, and breaks down to what would appear as Demerol... think about it and research it yourself so that you're informed. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I am currently tapering from 30+ mg methadone and 20_ hydros a day using neurontin and a few hydros for pain. So far so good. Sub was simply too complex for me to deal with....
Avatar f tn Wellbutrin helps with the drug cravings and Neurontin helps with withdrawals for me. I take those meds for depression and anxiety too. Neurontin helps me get to sleep and stay asleep longer. I can wake up to go to the bathroom but can go right back to sleep. I couldn't befpre I started on this medication.
Avatar f tn I see Neurontin as the "golden pill" it solves just about everything in one pill....(for me) It takes away my pain, stabilizes my mood, and controls the beast, for when aunt flo comes to town......Yay! tmi....lol. Not a med to screw with. Don't ever think you can have it both ways. Neurontin can work for withdrawals, but remember its the mental part that many have described that is the Biach......Neurontin isn't gonna fix that. Nauty........
Avatar f tn A physician may be able to prescribe you some Requip for the restless leg syndrome, Neurontin for agitation and malaise, and possibly something like Seroquel low dose for the insomnia. I promise you will be feeling better and better every day. It may take months to actually feel great again.
1474625 tn?1371097079 Today I visited a new doctor for my pain I've been having from a herniated disc between my L5/S1. I just had surgery last month but my pre-surgery pain came back. I'm now taking hydrocodone (norco) 10mg along with gabapentin. I've never had any experience with this new drug and I have read a wide range of reviews for nerve pain.
Avatar m tn That could have been from the withdrawals though. Neurontin was originally prescribed for siezure, bi-polar, and convulsions. It has other off label uses now such as for pain and drug withdrawals. Just google it. I know on wikipedia it says on there what is was and is used for. It even mentions about being used off label for drug withdrawals. I hope this helps. If I can answer any more questions about it, let me know! I was totally amazed on how well it worked for me.
Avatar m tn Someone just posted the other day that their doctor prescribed it exclusively for opiate withdrawals. That was the first time I had ever heard of it prescribed just for that. Although it doesn't take all the symptoms away I do agree that it helps some. I did some research on it before I started taking it and there are many horror stories out there of people becoming addicted to it and having big time withdrawals when they stop taking it so I'd be careful.
9704730 tn?1405741284 I was addicted to them for a while and it took at least 30 days for the physical withdrawals to ease up, as far as the neurontin goes my dr tried it on me but I got really sick after a couple doses and had to stop taking it, sorry I couldn't be more help. Hang in there!!
Avatar f tn Also I have taken a month off school to recover from withdrawals.
Avatar m tn I've posted a couple questions on here but this is my main question now. I've been taken lyrica because I know it helps with opiate withdrawals as far as restless legs and insomnia. Even though I still have the diarrhea and flu like symptoms. My question is this by me taken idk (2) 50mg of lyrica a day (which isn't much) will it affect or prolong my withdrawals from opiates( hydrocodien)?..
Avatar m tn See if your doctor can write you a prescription for some Requip for restlessness (it is the very best treatment for RLS or RAS), Neurontin for anxiety and malaise, some Flexeril or Soma for a few weeks for muscle spasms and maybe some Seroquel low dose, for sleep. It will make your withdrawals easier. Valerian and Magnesium is sometimes helpful remedies over the counter. The residual symptoms of insomnia and depression can last another few months.
1474625 tn?1371097079 I used neurontin for opiate withdrawals but it was by accident. I was prescribed vicodin and then oxycodone for back problems and sciatica. When I finally told my doctor that I was done with the pills he prescribed neurontin for nerve pain. I stopped the opiates and started the neurontin. It did take the edge off quite a bit. About the only symptoms I experienced was anxiety and the chills. I had a little lethargy but nothing compared to full blown withdrawals.

Avatar m tn Hi there and welcome!Congrats on your decision to quit.It WILL get better. Please visit the health pages and look up the Thomas Recipie and stocdk up on Immodium AD.As for coming off Fentanyl....no fun.Been there, done that and I actually stopped opiate use after coming off the Fentanyl. So I continued taking my pills,at a lower dosage, whenn I took the patch off for the last time. Then I worked on the pills and getting them to a stable, manageable amount and not abusing them.It can be done.
1054417 tn?1273165866 Congrats! I agree about the neurontin. I was prescribed neurtontin for nerve pain and researched it. I read that it is used in some rehab facilities for withdrawal. I also had clonodine but didn't take it. The neurontin was enough to help me make it through. It is def. a drug that they need to look at more for withdrawal. It has so many off label uses. I didn't have rls once. I was even able to sleep and didn't have any of the twitchy muscles.
723959 tn?1314744225 Some claim it is addictive. I took/take something similar and although it is non-narcotic it can be so-called addicting. If it works.......who cares?......It's not an opiate and you shouldn't experience any opiate-like withdrawals if you stop taking it, but as Avisg stated...You will have to taper it if you decide to stop taking it. I stopped Neurontin at a pretty high dose, and was ok, but I wouldn't recommend it.
Avatar m tn When switching to the new med, does the body experience w/d from the other opiate, even though a new opiate is replacing the old opiate. In other words, let's say you "rotate" your meds once every 6 months. At those 6 month intervals, when your physician places you on a different medication, do you experience withdrawals for a few days? I have a theory that different opiates attach to diff opiate receptors.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed neurontin for nerve pain which it didn't help for that. I did find it to be helpful during withdrawals. It won't completely take away everything you will be feeling but it did help me some. I didn't have the rls and the twitching associated with withdrawals. I didn't have the creepy crawly feeling or the hot flashes either. It also helped me get a decent nights sleep. About the only symptoms I still had was the stomach issues, lack of energy, and the chills.
Avatar m tn so for the last 6 months I have been taking methadone. Not on a regular basis at all..take one 10mg pill a day for 4-6 days then take nothing for weeks, Sometimes months. I took it everyday for about 7 days then stopped for 2 weeks and at that 2 week mark I started getting horrible insomnia, hallucinations, and flu like symptoms with I chalked up to being withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar n tn Neurontin helps big time for withdrawals. I was also taking lortab and was prescribed neurontin for nerve pain. It didn't help with the pain though. I read about it and it is used in some detox centers. I took it and it made my withdrawals 90% easier. I still had a bit of anxiety and the body chills. I was able to sleep and didn't have the restless legs. So in my opinion I would say give it a try. There have been a few others on here that tried it and also said it helped.
Avatar n tn i havent heard of anyone taking topomax for withdrawals i know i was on topomax for my migraines thats the only use i know of.

Avatar m tn Suboxone withdrawals are often worse than pure agonist opiate withdrawals as you well know by now. Symptoms usually start around 36 hours after stopping the drug since it is so long acting and binds receptors so strongly. Those acute withdrawals can last up to several weeks. The residual depression, insomnia and weakness may persist for months.
Avatar f tn My doctor gave me Neurontin for my extreme restlessness from withdrawals. I find it to be really helpful. Most of my withdrawals symptoms are shaking, RLS, and the feeling of needing to get out of my skin. The neurontin has stopped that and has even let me sleep. I was wondering if anyone knows more about this medication. I did some reading on it but someone told me that it can cause changes in personality. I asked to pharmacist and he told me that it might cause some mood changes.
