Neurontin for night sweats

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin for night sweats

neurontin

This is all so interesting and I thank you for sharing. I take Neurontin ONLY at night bc it helps me sleep but I otherwise hate the way the drug makes me feel. It surprises me that it is abused, but that would explain why lyrica is controlled-it must have some abuse potential. The kicker on this all is that I don't have an addictive personality. I allowed myself to become addicted this time, but I'm in my late 40's. If I ever get out of this mess,I'm not going back.
I have been having terrible night sweats for 4 months. I can't tie that date to having started any new medications. I have tried to research all the medications I am on and to date have not figured out which one is causing the night sweats. Do you have any ideas for additional resources where I might be able to find an answer? Or do you know if any of these medications cause night sweats? Will they eventually go away or is there any treatment?
He had prescribed a couple of different treatments for me, but ended up giving me a daily medication of Neurontin. I of course did the gradual increase of the medication each time having him run his check-ups on me, slowly increasing the medication to what I been taking recently. After 10-11 years of this medication, I ended up taking 3600mg per day (600mg 2 pills 3x a day).
My doctor prescribed Neurontin for menapausal symptoms of night sweats, really bad inosomnia and restless leg syndrome. 200 mg nightly worked nicely for 2 weeks. Then it didn't do a thing so doctor increased it to 300-400 mg per night. I tried to stick to 300 mg but after 48 hours without sleep and feeling like I as losing my mind, I caved and took 400. That worked but now isn't. I take it, feel weak and exhuasted but can't sleep.
neurontin for the most part is a safe drug ,however for a while they were using to treat bi polar disorder ,then they found out it really never work in BP patients turns out pharmaceutical companies paid for positive results it was quite the scandal . In the process BP patients were suffering cuz there meds did not work .
He would feel better during the day but around 3-4 he would start going down hill. He had crazy chills and night sweats too. Now, as of last night, he has started with a fever in the middle of the night of around 102. He stays so tired too. Not sure if we should find a doc or if it will just go away but I am starting to worry. How are you feeling?
The day after I took my last dose of Neuronting, I sneezed uncontrollably for about 24 hours. I also began getting bad night sweats that remain a problem years later. I think there must be some link between Neurontin and hypothyroidism--the side effects of Neurontin track hypothyroid sympmtoms so closely!--but I can't find any research in that area.
I am still on the neurontin for nerve pain............but 32 days clean today from Hydrocodone. I am on 600 MG's of neurontin 4 times a day, but I don't take it that much I usually take one in the am then one in the evening before I go to bed.
I have been on 1200 - 1600 mg of Neurontin and 10 mg of Flexeril at night for a little over 9 years. It did offer wonderful relief from my back pain at night by allowing me to sleep after 2 years of hell. However, it has not worked effectively the last 2 years and I began to experience tremors the last 2 months. Since I finally retired, I decided to get off of Neurontin before I created some other serious CNS event.
I've heard that neurontin or gabapentin is great for stopping the nerve pain associated with withdrawal. Has anyone had experience with this?

I have many floaters as well. also, brisk knee reflexes, night sweats, mild fatigue, tender points, very mild joint pain,,out of breath easily, bruise easily. Also, neuro exam 3 years ago said there was slight central pallor of right disk. Both pupils reacted the same. Just wanted to know your professional opinion. If you think this sounds like a MS to you. I just started worrying about it again, because i read something about Horner's disease being related to demylination..
I have been on the drug for about eight months now. gabapentin has stopped my night sweats, hot flashes and daily fever. I currently take 300mg. three times a day. the drug was prescribed for symptoms that occur with fibromyalgia. what i have mentioned above are the only symptoms that i have gotten relief from. the only downside so far is uncontrollable urine urgency(not able to always make it to the bathroom have to race) and dizziness.

I do have to get off the valium, but I only took that 'cause the Docs said it would be best for my back spasms, benzos aren't fun for me, but I still want off. I take 10mgs every night and have been waiting to be opiate free before tapering off the valium. If anyone has valium tapering advice, I'd LOVE to hear it. It is a miracle that I'm clean from opiates with virtually NO withdrawal symptoms. I was taking 200mgs of oxy a day.
OK!!!! NIGHT.. NIGHT... MAY GOD BE WITH YOU HUN..
It is interfering with my daily life. I take pills for my heart, diabetes. The neurontin pills don't really help the pain..just helps the shaking I have at night. The doctor has tried me on Darvocets, Tylenol 3 with Codeines and none of those pills ease the pain..just makes me feel groggy and dizzy. I sometimes break out in sweats. In 2006, a MRS was done on my lower back and the doctor told me that detioration of the spine was occuring.
and he went from sleeping 18 hrs a day....to sleeping 3-4 hrs a night......that persisted for 2 months...before they finally tried to even out his sleep pattern with doxepin hcl 10mg/1ML . The stomach pain and joint pain has never fully resolved. In the last 20 months my son has had 4 flares of high grade temps ( 104+) On Nov26th, 2012 i got a diagnosis on " Periodic fever syndrome ", but the new doc felt there is more going on besides the PFS...
out of bed to get ready for work. I went back up to 1.5 pills. I have been here for 3 months. I am scared to go back down. I have no mental history or issues. I have a clean bill of health other than the Methadone. I do take Flexeril to sleep at night. I want off this medicine so bad. I am a Kaiser member. Kaiser wanted to give me Prozac... NO THANK YOU! They also wanted me to go to Group Therapy to help me deal with getting off this medicine. I have a very supportive family & friends.
Oh geez, be careful! Taking 3 each of Klonopin and Neurontin isn't a good idea. For one, subs are NEVER to be mixed with benzos (Klonopin) because of the risk of respiratory depression and respiratory arrest. Not only that, but Klonopin itself is addictive. You do NOT want to trade one addiction for another. Benzo detox makes opiate detox look like a walk in the park for most people. Even Neurontin will cause a discontinuation syndrome if taken long enough.
My homosystine and MMA levels were not checked until 6 weeks later when he rechecked my B-12 after I had been supplementing with over the counter B-12 not the Mentanex. MMA and Homosystine normal, B-12 now 1300's. I also had night sweats for the first 6 weeks of this. Everynight. 1. I do not have L'hemittes sign. The hot water pouring down my leg occurs randomly or when cool air hits the thigh. I get these "hot spots" on my legs, abd and back. 2.

5 every other day and feeling okay I stopped and started my new prescription, Wellbutrin-- well, for two days now I'm nauseous, shaky, hot/cold sweats, feel like my eyes are vibrating somewhat when I make too fast of motion with my head. It's as if I have symptoms of Vertigo and can't fix it. I'd rather be shot in the foot and deal with that discomfort and pain than these annoying side-effects. What do I do?
Thanks again to everyone for their advice the green tea has reduced the night sweats dramatically they are not nearly as severe or as prolonged so the washing machine gets a break! So once again thank you.
Hopefully I will hear back tomorrow about an appointment. I had horrible night sweats last night and all day today I can't get warm. Especially my LT foot! I just haven't felt good at all today. Dizzy spurts- about fell down when answering the door... horrible abdominal pain, too. Thanks bunches, though. I will definitely check into that again. I will send you good energy as well! Take care and keep in touch.
//cdbaby.com/cd/healthrock4). For night sweats, ask your doctor about other non-hormonal prescription meds such as neurontin, or herbal approaches such as Black Cohosh 20 mg twice daily or eating soy 25 mg soy protein daily or capsules 50 to 100 mg daily. Machelle M.
types of symptoms but nothing in a pattern or anything like that. If I do get any night sweats I usually blame it on menopause. I have bee surgical menopause for 5 years and if I am really stressed out or get really upset I will go through night with sweats, but it passes. No, I can't say I get joint pain.
Spasticity is my biggest nemesis. My spactisity occurs in my left leg. My muscles are so tight that it makes walking ver difficult and tiresome. It is also very painful. Stretching the muscles is very important and must be done several times throughout the day. I also take a great deal of medications such as Baclafen and Zanaflex during the day to help reduce the spasticity. The pain at night was so intense that it kept me up all night.
When I have hot flashes (I am taking Tamoxifen) I have feelings like needles sticking me, on my head, face, arms and legs. I can stand the hot sweats better than the "stickings." The sticking is only when I get the hot spells. Is this normal, or do I have something else wrong with me? P.S. I am taking Effexor for hot flashes. It helps some, but I want to sleep all the time, so I believe I will stop it when my prescription runs out.
