Neurontin for herniated disc

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin for herniated disc

neurontin

Avatar n tn Hi there. Herniated discs can cause moderate to severe pain due to nerve roots impingement by the disc matter exiting at that level. The therapeutic options for this are NSAIDs, epidural injections of steroids, physiotherapy and surgical decompression like discectomy and bone grafting. you need to consult a neurosurgeon for evaluation. You have been prescribed drugs like flexeril, muscle relaxant, gabapentin, anti convulsant used for neuropathic pain, opioids, etc.
Avatar f tn From your post it sounds as if you had planned for a microdiscectomy for a herniated disc at L5-S1. When the surgery was in progress the surgeon needed to do a more extensive procedure and dissect adhesions connected to the annulus (the covering of the disc) This extra manipulation and movement of nerve tissue could result in the symptoms you are currently experiencing.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with an L5 S1 herniated disc in my lower back. I have sciatic pain radiating down to my foot which becomes numb daily. I injured my back 2 yrs ago and re-herniated my disc 2 months ago. I have gone to physical therapy and this seems to have helped a bit. I also stretch/swim/and do all back exercises outlined by my PT often. The pain is pretty consistent and has gotten in the way of my regular physical activities.
Avatar f tn I had a lumbar MRI yesterday because he thought it was maybe a herniated disc. My question is this, if there is no sign of a herniated disc what in the world is happening to me? My entire torso is spasming, it feels crazy and the pain when not on the meds is worse than giving birth to my kids. Anyone ever experience this? Or anything like this?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed neurontin for nerve pain due to a herniated disc that caused sciatic pain. I did help some. There are also some others out there so maybe talk to your doctor. Tramadol can be just as if not more addicting than vicodin or oxy so be very careful there. Hope you can find some relief. There is a pain management forum here on med help that you may benefit from. At the top of the page click on forums. It will bring up a list of the different forums available here. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn Given the history of a motor vehicle accident and neck pain, there are several possibilities, one being a herniated disc. The vertebrae (bones of the spine) have material between them to cushion and allow for mobility. This material may be squished out. This is called a herniated disc. It can be squished out centrally or laterally. In most people the pain associated with a herniated disc may resolve within 4-6 weeks.
Avatar f tn Since the pain travels from the neck to your fingers (I’m not sure what distribution the pain travels such as on the outer or inner side of your arm, etc), a herniated disc should be in the differential. A herniated disc is the expulsion of the cushioning material between the vertebrate toward a nerve or the spinal cord. These discs normally allow for mobility but can be squished out over time or with injuries.
Avatar f tn Had a couple numb toes and felt like a stone bruise on the bottom of my foot along with the horrible pain in my leg. Mine was caused by herniated disc on the nerve. Had 2 laminectomy which failed and still had the sciatic nerve pain. I found out about a med called neurontin (generic is gabapentin) and within an hour of starting this med the pain had let up quiet a bit - the next morning the sciatic nerve pain was about 97% gone.
Avatar n tn I was in a car wreck which caused a herniated disc in my neck. I was having severe "sharp shooting " pains in my head so the doctor did surgery and fused the 5 and 6 disc together. Sharp pains in my head went away right after surgery but still having alot of pain in the back of my head and all the way down my arms. My shoulders hurt to the touch!! I still hurt from shoulders ,arms to the back of my head.

Avatar n tn thanks for the answer. i been in therapy for 6 weeks now. they just found out i had c 5-6 disc herniation. i was in a rear end car accident in march. i was sent to a neurologist and he suggests pain management and neck traction.is it possiable to resume my duties at the post office. im a rural carrier there. if so what would be the restrictions if any.
Avatar m tn Herniated disc doesn’t cause swollen glands in the neck. Please consult a neurologist for the treatment of the herniated disc and examination of the swollen glands in the neck to find out the cause of swelling. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!

Avatar n tn Can anyone tell me if a small herniated disc with slight cord impingement cause upper middle abdominal pressure? The herniated disc is at T6 and T7.
Avatar m tn is the postero paramediane position of the herniated disc,is it a bad position or a regular position of the herniated disc. Cause they say to me that the postero paramediane is not the common position where the herniated disc exits.
Avatar n tn I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH A HERIATED DISC IN MY NECK C6-C7 FOR ALMOST AYEAR, NEUROLOGIST SAYS THEY CAN ONLY TREAT ME FOR THE SYMPOMS OF HERNIATED DISC,( CERVICAL NECK SPASMS) TREATMENT HAS BEEN AS FOLLOWS, PERSCRIBED NORTRIPTYLINE FOR A FEW MONTHS ALONG WITH FLEXEREL, WHICH DID HELP BUT I ASKED TO BE TAKEN OFF NORTRYPTILINE DUE TO WEIGHT GAIN, I WAS THEN PUT ON TOPAMAX, I HAVE BEEN ON THAT FOR A FEW MONTHS BUT THE SIDE AFFECTS ARE BEGIINING TO REALLY GET TO ME, SO NOW MY NEUROLOGIST IS SWITCHIN

1943759 tn?1324045251 t had a MRI done yet, I would recommend that you have him get this done as it will open the door to more treatment options like epidural injections that can be very effective for certain abnormalities found due to degenerative disc disease. The injections will not impair his driving at all.
Avatar n tn The pain is unilateral-right and most severe on the top and side of the head and at the base of the neck. Her right eye tears and right nostril runs. She has a herniated disc in her neck but the doctors have said this is unrelated. Steroids helped a while back, but now they're back again and steroids, antiseizure meds, and painkillers don't help. A couple doctors have looked at the MRIs and haven't found anything obvious.
412194 tn?1233621532 I was prescribed neurontin for nerve pain caused by a herniated disc. It didn't really help me any but I know of some people that had great success with it. I know for a fact that it helps with withdrawals. The have taken twice for withdrawals and hardly had any physical symptons of them. The mental part was still there though. It is used for many different of label uses such as pain, bi-polar, and siezures. Just go and google it and there is information out there. Try wikipedia.
