neurontin

2033870 tn?1329481339 I have rapid cycling bipolar as well as post traumatic stress disorder. He has me on Xanax for anxiety, Zoloft and Neurontin for mood stabilizer. Can anyone tell me what they think of Neurontin and if it words? I am very intrigued to know if I am on a good medicine or if this isn't good. I don't go back to him for 3 weeks.
Avatar f tn s action is similar enough to prevent any withdrawal effect from stopping the NEURONTIN. It IS a bipolar med and also an anticonvulsant. It has some side effects so keep your doctor informed of any developments. Aside from this, why do you have two screen names? I mention it because it's against forum policy. So, stick with just one, okay?
Avatar f tn Neurontin has an interesting background. It was once heavily marketed to pain cliinics for treatment of neuropathic pain, and is still used for that purpose. But it was also marketed (illegally, according to the FDA) as a mood stabilizer, even though there are no good studies showing it is effective treatment for bipolar disorder. The company that makes the drug was hit with t large fine about ten years ago for taking docs to the Caribbean and giving them lectures and marketing pitches...
337492 tn?1212458836 I started on 300mg of neurontin for bipolar disorder a week ago and was aware that another benefit is it would help with my migraines. I also take 500mg of magnesium for my headaches but I space it out so that it will not conflict with the neurontin. I had the strangest migraine last night and my aura was different and I have not suffered a headache for several months, last time being caused by Lamictil.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I am Type 2 Bipolar and currently take 200mgs of Lamictal, 900mgs of Neurontin, and 1.5mgs of Klonopin. My doctor and I will be weaning off of the Klonopin within the near future as we don't feel that it is medically necessary. I don't mind the Neurontin as I have been on and off of it for years. We are looking at just using the Neurontin and the Lamictal. However, a recent family even has gotten me wondering; would the Lamictal be a good enough mood stabilizer for me alone?
Avatar m tn Thank you guys for your input. I left this out, but I'm on Lamictal & Lithium for BP & Clonazepam & Buspirone for panic & anxiety disorder. The combo of these drugs with Gabapentin (Neurontin) is what really screwed me up more than I already am. The Gabapentin really knocked me for a loop. It gave me the shakes, made me dizzy & really screwed with my cognitive skills. I think this is why my shrink wants to keep me away from this class of drugs.
Avatar f tn Neurontin, Topomax, Keppra, Trileptal, Lovaza (anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar it works like fish oil but is an FDA approved medication) and Clonidine (which I take having exhausted all other options). Those are only the ones I've tried and am familiar with. I wouldn't reccomend one over the other but speak to your psychiatrist about any of these options (or others listed on that site which is clinically accurate).
1039200 tn?1314912008 i am on this medication for bipolar and also fibromyalgia my doc says it will help as a mood stabiliser as well as for the pain i have with the fibro
Avatar f tn I found that it did not work for my Bipolar even though i was on 800mg and yes, you will need regular blood tests to check your liver and kidney function. If you are concerned about it talk to your Psychiatrist about other options. I did! It is your body and you do have control over what goes into it.
Avatar f tn I am currently being medicated with Wellbutrin 150 mg three times a day and neurontin 100 mg twice a day. I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder. I want to learn everything I can to stay well...I try to read up on the condition I am diagnosed with to be informed.. the more I read ,...the more I see that these meds are used to treat bipolar disorder....I am starting to suspect that I am not getting the right diagnosis or that the psychiatrists are not telling me everything.
Avatar f tn Anyone have experience with using neurontin for opiate w/ds? My dr. just prescribed me some. They're sitting at the pharmacy ready to pick up, just wondering. P.S. this is the same dr. that has been seeing me through a suboxone taper. I'm down to .25mg. and going to be "jumping" in about 3 wks. P.P.S. I've already got some supplies from the Thomas Recipe: multi-vitamin/mineral and potassium pills.
Avatar f tn So I have been diagnosed by two different psychiatrists the first said bipolar II the second cyclomania. Also been diagnosed with ADHD but cannot take meds for it because of bipolar. Or maybe I am just bipolar and was misdiagnosed...anyways I have irritability, anger, mild depression, hypomania, am very figity, have sleeping problems...
600857 tn?1230057770 Please do not worry about Neurontin. I have taken it for a long time and at twice the dose your at. I have not had one problem from it and it does work on my nerve pain. I have had absolutely no side effects even from the increases I've had. In my opinion, it is a completely safe drug. If you have any douts about it then Google "Neurontin Side Effects" it should give you a really good indepth look at the drug.
Avatar f tn I have been tappering off of vicodine half a pill a week but I still feel sick and tired with that little amount. I am down to three from 5 a day for fibro. I take advil 800 mg twice a day also take 1200 mg of nueronton at bedtime and 600mg at 9 am, since tappering the morning amount has made me very tired (never bothered me before) and the pain is bad enough that I just want to stay under warm covers and not move an inch, even the dog leaning against me makes it worse.
Avatar f tn I asked my doctor if I could wean off the meds, and she told me that b/c of my one depressive episode and my family history of mental illness I will have to be on the meds for the rest of my life. I don't want to be! We don't even know how I would feel without meds. I'm afraid of the long-term effects. I'm on 20 mg of Lexapro and 900 mg of Neurontin. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is my doctor just a drug pusher? Thanks.
142722 tn?1281533616 So my worry has increased since it is getting warm. I worry so much, that I can't stand it and my anger moods are really bad. Dr said keeping taking 200mg of limtical(sp) and gave me Neurontin which I am not sure I want to take. I took this long ago and didn't like it but he seems to think it will help me sleep at night. The limtical helps me get to sleep but wears off and I can be up for hours at night worrying. Does any one have these problems and what have you done?
142722 tn?1281533616 What works for one person may not be effective for someone else. What I can tell you is, I have been taking Zoloft for over 5 years and it has NEVER made ME manic.
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome to MedHelp. I also take percocet along with neurontin (gabapentin). The gabapentin is very similar to lyrica. I drink coffee 4-5 days per week and I haven't encountered any issues and I have been on percocet for almost a year and gabapentin for almost 2 years. I don't think there are any severe reactions when coffee is mixed with percocet or lyrica or both.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I am a new member, I have been diagnosed with Type Two Bipolar Depression and I take 1.5mg of Klonopin a day along with several other medications. The Klonopin is very affective in stopping my agitated manic phases, which isthe most serious aspect of my illness. I have two questions: 1. I have been told that 1.5 mgs of klonopin is small dose of the medication and that it's not something that I should be concerned with. Is 1.5 mgs a small dose? 2.
8496079 tn?1398412516 Has the drug Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) worked for Fibromyaglia pain within a few days of taking this medication for the horrible pain from the Fibro? I was put on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) yesterday by my doctor for my Fibromyalgia Condition in addition to the Norco 7.5/325 I can take up to 4 pills day as needed for the massive pain I'm in.
Avatar m tn You were on a pretty high dose of Zoloft for 3 years. If I were you I would call my Dr and tell her you need a much longer tapering plan. In my opinion, 9 days is way too fast to get off of this med. No wonder you're having the shocks and nightmares. No one should have to go through this. Be persistent with your Dr. Remember that she works for you, not the other way around.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Depression with psychotic features, not any Bipolar disorder Anyway I was on Prozac with Wellbutrin, then had a relapse and they took me off both and started me on Abilfy only. Is this a normal procedure or should I also be on some low dose antidepressant in your opinion ? Thank you very much for your time.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else been prescribed neurontin for headaches? My neurologist said that MRI was fine other than a small venous angioma and seemed to think my headaches (continuous for two months) are caused by neck and muscle problems. He put me on neurontin which has greatly improved my headaches but I've already gained six pounds in three weeks. Besides that I feel like I'm in a fog, forgetful, and generally kind of "duh huh" feeling. I can't take Topomax because of glaucoma.
Avatar f tn Hi could anyone give me any views on carbamazepine for pain please?
