Neurontin dosage for nerve pain

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin dosage for nerve pain

neurontin

382218 tn?1341181487 I'm currently taking 2700 mg per day [3 x 900 mg] for nerve pain in my hand. I think I soon will need to increase to the upper limit of 3600 mg per day and see if this brings me more relief. My neuro supports this. What I was wondering was whether there is any difference in effectiveness in taking 1200 mg, 3x per day - VS - 900 mg, 4x per day? 4x per day is tricker given that is every 6 hours and may interfered with sleep, having to wake extra early to take a dose.
630344 tn?1280104983 I'm taking the generic form, just recently resumed but have used it in the past. Neurontin is Rx-ed for nerve pain as an "off label" use, that it, treating nerve pain is not the function for which it was designed so it's not listed as a use on the manufacturer's label. It is actually an anti-seizure med, but it was found to also reduce neuropathy in patients. It is my understanding that Lyrica works much in the same way, and is a newer medication by the same company.
1855076 tn?1337115303 I take it for nerve pain from MS, and it works pretty well. The max acccepted dosage is 3600 mg/day, which is a lot. Many MSers take that much, and I haven't heard of reactions like those described. Of course, everyone is different. If you can't tolerate Neurontin (gabapentin), you might try Lyrica. That made me gain weight like mad, but once again, your mileage may vary.
600857 tn?1230057770 Please do not worry about Neurontin. I have taken it for a long time and at twice the dose your at. I have not had one problem from it and it does work on my nerve pain. I have had absolutely no side effects even from the increases I've had. In my opinion, it is a completely safe drug. If you have any douts about it then Google "Neurontin Side Effects" it should give you a really good indepth look at the drug.
1359227 tn?1282522148 I've been on it for several years for nerve pain. It has been, for the most part, effective. I am also on Cymbalta, also for nerve pain. These two meds, plus oxycodone, baclofen and nerve blocks provide considerable relief.
Avatar f tn I have had many of your experiences. Dizziness with some falls. (My dizziness was not the spinning type, but more of "rocking on a boat in a hurricane" type.) There was a thought that I might have MS, but there were no plaques on my brain. Did have some neuropathies, but they were a small patch on my right side of my face near my hairline and a larger area on my leg. Now that I have gotten and stayed in the normal range with the VDD.
Avatar m tn t been effective so I am planning to switch to Neurontin. What is the average dose of Neurontin for pain management? More specifically, with a chronic pain level between 5-7. Is there a database for Neurontin dosage? I will be ramping to 300mg of Neurontin per day but am wondering if that's too conservative.
Avatar f tn i dont think this will be any help a dr put me on ot for my back for pain mangement...after the second or third dose i dint know where i was who my kids where it messed me up..
237053 tn?1258828426 t let their name (antidepressants) stop you from trying them for relief from pain, they work. I take neurontin for nerve pain, which was originally meant to be an anti seizure med. They work. My advice is try a half like you said. Give it a month or two. If it doesn't give you relief, there may be another one that you can try. Cymbalta is also a good one. I am not in the medical field so don't take this as med. advice, just speaking from personal experience.
681148 tn?1437661591 Anyone who has taken Gabapentin (Neurontin) for a couple of months for the nerve pain post Shingles outbreak: What was the dosage you took to deal with the nerve pain and how long did you take it before the nerve pain stopped? I'm not concerned about the safety of the Neurontin at the low dosage I'm taking. I'm actually more concerned about the effectiveness.
1298907 tn?1272886488 Hello all, I hope everyone is doing well today. It seems as if spring has finally come to Idaho! The sun is out & I'm excited to get out & try & work in my garden now that I'm feeling better this year! Yaaay! Can anyone tell I'm a stay at home mom who likes to talk? My 2 year old keeps me company all day & Lord knows I love him with all my heart but sometimes we all just need a little bit of adult conversation!
Avatar m tn Hi well I have the same problem too. Is your pain actually from a damaged nerve or a neuropathy ? Or is it that you get pain from turning slightly or almost any wrong move? That is what I call Tweeks, you get tweeked and more pain for about three days to a week. I was on Neurontin and actually have myofascial pain but they thought it may have been a nerve at first. The neurontin didn't do a thing for me.
Avatar f tn s made a huge difference for me, my nerve pain has been minimized. I had a huge issue with my right leg, the outer side of my thigh was numb on the skin but burned like it was on fire under it. And I could hardly walk. The Neurontin dulled it considerably, it's also made my skin less sensitive, I've been in a fibro flare for some time and it's dulled that as well. I am taking 900mg without any noticable side effects.
Avatar f tn ) So from all the post above I am sure that you have figured out that the usual Rx of Gabapentin (neurontin) is usually used (off label) for Nerve pain..Also known as Neuropathy. Originally it was used for Seizure disorder. Gabapentin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. I too have not heard of this medication used "Off Label" for balance issues. It will be interesting as to how it is going to work though. So please keep us updated on how it works for you.
Avatar f tn I think the norm is starting at a low dose and working your way up. When I was prescribed it for nerve pain I was started at 300mg 3 times daily for 2 weeks and then 600mg 3 times daily after that. When I read about it being used in detox clinics the dose was (if I remember right) 1800-3600mg each night. The most I took at one time when I used it for withdrawals was 1200mg at night. It really helped with the sleep. I then took 1 600mg around noon.
Avatar n tn I hope you continue to do well on the lyrica and get ample pain relief from the nerve pain you have. I also deal with a lot of nerve pain and I know that it can be very painful and difficult to tolerate at times. Keep in touch and if you have any more questions, I will be more than happy to try to help!
1207048 tn?1282174304 I was on gabapentin (neurontin) 900mg 3 times daily for approx. 2 years... it works wonders for neuropathetic pain I was taking it along with 100mg of Lyrica 3 times daily. WhenI had my gastric bypass surgery in December I came off the neurontin and stayed only on the Lyrica. I agree with the others try it... just remember to give it a chance it won't work overnight.
Avatar n tn I was placed on neurontin for nerve pain after five fusions. Three years later am trying to decrease dosage and am now depressed have terrible diaphoretic episodes and at times feel suicidal. At one time I was up to 3600mg a day and now am on 2100 mg tried to decrease one 300mg tablet when the symptoms started. What is the answer?
Avatar f tn When I just touch very gently, it feels like fiberglass or hundreds of metal splinters or something is in there. My neuro has me on neurontin, 400mg, and I am having carpal tunnel surgery on one hand. The pain is not controlled. What is it and what can I do for relief?
