Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin depression

neurontin

Avatar f tn Please be careful with using Neurontin... my husband who is addicted to opiates has become addicted to the Neurontin as well. It may sound silly, and I don't have a ton of knowledge on drugs and such, but you can find and read countless forums with people talking about how they abuse the drug, and the horrible withdrawals they go through when running out of it.
Avatar f tn I was taking neurontin 300mg/3x a day. It was working fairly well for about 3 weeks, then started not working...they thought I needed a higher dose, but then my old doctor told me it was all in my head and took me off all meds! It did make me tired and actually made me a little depressed. So while I was taking it my doctor put me on Cymbalta to kind of counter act the depression. Which made me even more tired.
Avatar m tn When I used the neurontin I only took it for about 10 days just to get through the physical withdrawals. Neurontin is used for many different things. A few of those are sleep, restless leg syndrome, anxiety, hot flashes, and many others. All of those symptons are a part of withdrawals. I was truly amazed on how well it worked. I was originally prescribed neurontin for nerve pain due to scar tissue hitting my sciatic nerve.
2097395 tn?1333262190 Neurontin should not be prescribed for panic disorder. It is classified as an anticonvulsant and commonly prescribed for nerve pain and seizure disorders. It does have sedetary properties however not thought to have addictive qualities. Maybe you have developed a psychological dependence based on the sedating effects. This is a medication that should not be stopped abruptly to prevent seizures. I encourage you to talk to your doctor about taking a medication that is specific for panic disorder.
700212 tn?1240760820 My docter just prescribed me neurontin for what they are calling "nerve" pain. Have any of you ever taken it?...is it good or bad?...Ive heard both and Ive been trying to look it up...but I just started treatment also and I already take enough pills...but if its going to help I willtake it...My right leg has alot of nerve damage and deep scar tissue and it bothers me pretty bad...but for some reason they wont prescribe me pain meds that I can just take when Im in pain...
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Neurontin for what they are thinking are overactive nerves. I had an injury 2 years ago and am still in pain and they think it's from the nerves not having settled or still being irritated. The doc said this was the safest med he prescribes. I don't like medicine.
203342 tn?1328737207 A child psychiatrist put my 15 year old daughter on Zolof for depression and anxiety and Neurontin as a mood stabilizer. When I looked it up, it said it was used as a seizure medicine and sometimes for bipolar but hadn't really been tested much for that. She's never been officially diagnosed with bipolar. She does have angry outbursts a lot over things that shouldn't be that big of a deal. In other words, she overreacts a lot.
Avatar f tn According to this Neurologist, stress and depression initially may affect the eyes and ears as these are very sensitive nerves in the body. The neurontin was to help relax these nerves and the prozac for depression. He was RIGHT!!!! And I feel back to myself. I am very thankful that this doctor finally had the guts to say it and I had the guts to think it was possible and try the medication. DO NOT RULE OUT DEPRESSION AND STRESS or you may end up eating a gun.
Avatar m tn Basically what I am wondering if it is the neurontin causing the mood problems i.e. depression, agitation and restlessness or the suboxone. If it helps any when I took those suboxones they knocked me on my *** as if I had no tolerance. If anyone has any info on whether neurontin can cause these kind of problems I would be very greatful. If there is any confusion I have been taking the high doses of neurontin consistantly through this dilema.
934553 tn?1275274379 Now I have to tell you I have a great Neurologist. She started me on Provigil and neurontin today. Said there is a new drug out there in trials that may be what I need that is showing great promise. She just called it demylenating disease. Anyway I am sill here, still depressed, but hopefull the provigil will help me feel better every day and the neurontin will help me feel better every night.
1134609 tn?1269272200 t really have a great deal of depression when dealing with the Neurontin. The Neurontin/Klonopin combo can drag me out a bit, but I start tapering off of Klonopin next month. I am a rapid cycle BP2; the Lamictal helps out tremendously in that aspect. However, with the increase in Neurontin, I am generally having fewer mood swings and am a lot less anxious.
Avatar f tn Looking for people's experiences with Neurontin 1) in general and 2) specifically if its helpful for withdrawal. The poll is for people's experiences using Neurontin during withdrawal - not necessarily FOR withdrawal but just if you used during. lso let me know if you feel like it, what it actually helped with. If you have other experiences with it, please comment on this post and let me know. I was prescribed it weeks ago for facial pain, but I havent filled it.
Avatar f tn ve felt before. With neurontin I have none of those spasms cramps or depression and mood swings. It also gives me no "high" feeling at all so its not a temptation for abuse or addiction. Get some neurontin, some benadryl and some diarrhea medication and you won't believe how successful you will be and you won't have to suffer! My prayers go out to anyone going through this.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I was completely stable until I stopped taking my extra dose of Neurontin to sleep at night and then I crashed. Then I spent a month bouncing me around on the Neurontin; it was causing me serious issues. Instead of taking a look at potential issues with my original medication cocktail, she just threw all kinds of medication into the mix in an effort to treat the depression the withdrawals were causing. Since I have gotten back on a standard dose, I have evened out completely.

Avatar f tn I chose the amtriptyline because I feel I am struggling with anxiety and a bit of depression. I would rather not be on 2 drugs. We also discussed neurotin, would neurotin help with anxiety issues as well as nerve pain? Sorry for the follow up questions. I am very sensitive to drugs and don't like to take them and am just looking for some short term help with what I am feeling. Thanks again.. .
600857 tn?1230057770 I am scared of the Nuerontin, I have heard many bad things about it. My Dr says its fine. I have depression and anxiety issues and am afraid this drug will aggrivate problems. anyone have any experience with this? Please let me know. Thank you.
459075 tn?1224121598 I have been on the neurontin for over 3 months now so i dont really think it could be a side effect from that. Anyone got any advise?
459325 tn?1274755074 I was diagnosed a year ago January and finally on the right med combo, still waiting for it to kick in completly and I started them this January!! I was in a deep depression and on Lithium (and trying out Neurontin at the time) when I ended up in the Hospital for a suicide attempt. The wonderful doctor there pulled me off of Neurontin and put me on Wellbutrin and it rocks. Life is balancing out again after a year long roller coaster ride.
Avatar m tn Neurontin can be very dangerous. It was originally developed as an anti-convulsant/seisure medication that has now been applied to pain relief. People need to carefully research safe doses and possible side effects..the amounts a doctor is willing to prescribe usually far excedes safe amounts. I'm glad it helped you. Everyone wanting to use this drug must be cautious. It can actually cause people to go 'off the deep end' almost into psychosis. IF it works for you great.
Avatar f tn I've actually seen Neurontin successfully treat depression and anxiety in the elderly population, so there are definite advantages to using it for this kind of off-label use. The important thing is, you've already started seeing some improvements, which is great! This may end up being your "miracle" drug! Keep us udpated hon!
Avatar f tn It is sedating and thus frequently prescribed for sleep for those who have insomnia with anxiety/depression. You can take during the day but it is sedating and you should use with care until you know it's daytime effects. Let me know how you make out if you decide to use it. Has your neurologist ever recommended neurontin or lyrica?
Avatar f tn I have tried quite a few times to come off medication, but the depression always comes back. The longest I was without depression was 1 year. I have now accepted that I will be on anti-depressdants for the rest of my life. I feel so well when taking medication, and would rather that, than the hell of depression. You could certainly come off the medication, and see how you go. Up to you, not your doctor.
5333788 tn?1366569346 Been off of it for 9 days. Was prescribed the generic brand of Neurontin 100mg Was advised by my Psychiatrist to increase dosage of Neurontin to 300mg on Friday. Still having crying spells. Was told that I was going through withdrawal symptoms from the Lyrica. Can this be possible even though I was taking Lyrica for a short period of time? Sorry if this does not make sense. Have been seen by a few doctor's, gone through many tests, the list goes on........
209591 tn?1267414714 I have been experiencing major depression for the last four months. Before that the depression would come and go. I am at the point where I cry and cry and cry. On an average day I may sleep 12 -- 16 hours, and when I wake up it feels like I have been up for days at a time. I have really isolated myself from family and friends in the last month, why dampen their spirits right? During the time before you got diagnosed were you all experiencing bouts of depression?
