Neurontin and opiate withdrawal

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin and opiate withdrawal

neurontin

Avatar f tn Absolutely. I took it (I was prescribed it) when I was going thru a heavy oxycodone withdrawal and it stopped all my withdrawals within 2 hours. I seriously, felt great. I was prescribed a high dose of Lyrica and didn't take it as I didn't believe it would work. (I wanted opiates and was really mad that my doctor wouldn't prescribe them). Anyway, I had heard it worked for opiate withdrawals so I decided to try it and was amazed at how it took away the sweats and everything.

Avatar f tn I have been on Percocet for 10 years and then was taking Ultram to not have withdrawal but after reading all the horror stories on here about Ultram, I tried the Neurontin. I have been on it for 3 days and no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever. I am shocked. I heard it is not addictive either so I'm staying on it for a week or two and then stopping to see if the Perc are out of my system.
Avatar n tn I read about neurontin and went to my doc and got a script for neurontin AND lyrica. It helped TREMENDOUSLY. I was using so much that i was high off of that and it became yet another substance my body was addicted to. ---- But it helped with the opiate wd. The last time i quit the percs (109 days ago) i stayed on the neurontin for 2 weeks. getting off of it is pretty nasty, you sweat a LOT and have anxiety (do some research on neurontin withdrawal).
Avatar m tn Uh oh...Mike! Do you know why Tramadol helps with withdrawals??? It's an opiate. Just so you know. I'm scared of the stuff! Some have used it for detox/wd's,some doctors prescribe it just for opiate withdrawal. It's an opiate, synthetic, and breaks down to what would appear as Demerol... think about it and research it yourself so that you're informed. Good luck!
Avatar m tn See if your doctor can write you a prescription for some Requip for restlessness (it is the very best treatment for RLS or RAS), Neurontin for anxiety and malaise, some Flexeril or Soma for a few weeks for muscle spasms and maybe some Seroquel low dose, for sleep. It will make your withdrawals easier. Valerian and Magnesium is sometimes helpful remedies over the counter. The residual symptoms of insomnia and depression can last another few months.
1054417 tn?1273165866 Congrats! I agree about the neurontin. I was prescribed neurtontin for nerve pain and researched it. I read that it is used in some rehab facilities for withdrawal. I also had clonodine but didn't take it. The neurontin was enough to help me make it through. It is def. a drug that they need to look at more for withdrawal. It has so many off label uses. I didn't have rls once. I was even able to sleep and didn't have any of the twitchy muscles.
Avatar f tn While I was still detoxing I took Neurontin ( Gabapentin ) and that seemed to help. After I ran out of the Neurontin I took some Lyrica I had at home. I only took it at night hoping it would help with the RLS. I'm not sure about this, but I suspect that RLS, overall restlessness, and the heavyness/tingling are related. You need a RX to get the Neurontin, Hope this helps.
1474625 tn?1371097079 Some said the side effects were awful and had to stop taking it but others said it was amazing and got rid of RLS and creepy crawlies (mainly from opiate withdrawals). I'm wondering if anyone here has taken it for the nerve pain from a herniated disc and how long does it take for it to start relieving pain? Also, I was wondering if anyone knows if it helps with the restless legs you get from opiate withdrawal or otherwise.
Avatar n tn I am experenced in all areas and more. I used neurontin many years ago, and had no ill effects. I use cymbalta now for diabetec neuropathy....When you are in trememdous pain, and terrible health you will take anything they give you. I am on 18 different prescriptions a day for heart, diabetes, asthma, emphasema, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, a back that spasms so badly the muscle sticks out over an inch.....oh well etc etc etc....don't just say don't take it....
Avatar m tn It gets worse and worse the longer it goes.
Avatar f tn t prescribe that dose, and you can go from there, and figure out what dose is right for taking care of your withdrawal. I have read posts about it, but I wont repeat it in the open forum, because I personally feel it would be irresponsible. Nauty.............
9704730 tn?1405741284 My doctor put me on neurontin but I think I am now having withdrawal symptoms from neurontin. I have been taking about 900 mg a day since September. It gives me a lot of side effects such as drowsiness and the inability to think quickly. I wanted to know if it is possible that I am still in withdrawal from the tramadol or if it's the neurontin.
Avatar m tn Congrats on 5 days. My last dose was this morning so I'm not feeling anything yet, I'm so glad I found this gabapentin I really think it's going to make this a lot easier to endure. I've read on countless forums now how it can help alleviate opiate withdrawal symptoms but nobody is really sure why.
Avatar n tn can topomax be used for opiate (percocet) withdrawal? I have heard that ultram is good for that but then you are addicted to the ultram. I also heard neurontin is helpful and that topomax is similar so I wondered if anyone had tried topomax for withdrawal.
Avatar m tn One of the things that help me get clean was Gabapentin (Neurontin). I took 300mgs a day 3xs a day and it help relax me and helped with sleep. Only get a small amounts worth just to get you throught about 5 days of withdrawal and then discontinue use. Worked better for me than any benzo did. Also helps keep a stable mood. It's not a magic pill but certainly very helpful.
Avatar n tn do you thing the neurontin will help if i get sick . i still have to work and i am kind of scared but i have only been taking 4-5 perc for the last week.
Avatar n tn The last time I had full blown withdrawal Neurontin took almost every single symptom away including cravings and sleepless nights, anxiety, RLS, sweats, chills.. I take it now for spinal stenosis and it doesn't help the cravings anymore. It seems to do wonders for some but not for others. You should use this under a doctors care. You have to wean from Neurontin as you do antidepressants or risk siezures.
Avatar n tn ve noticed that some people take gabapentin (Neurontin) to ease the leg pain as well. And tell yourself frequently that these symptoms will diminish and then disappear in a relatively short time.
Avatar f tn Anyone have experience with using neurontin for opiate w/ds? My dr. just prescribed me some. They're sitting at the pharmacy ready to pick up, just wondering. P.S. this is the same dr. that has been seeing me through a suboxone taper. I'm down to .25mg. and going to be "jumping" in about 3 wks. P.P.S. I've already got some supplies from the Thomas Recipe: multi-vitamin/mineral and potassium pills.
544292 tn?1268882668 I need more! More information! http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_bad_is_Tramadol_withdrawal Question - How bad is Tramadol WIthdrawal? Avatar m tn Neurontin SHOULD NOT BE STOPPED ABRUPTLY! NEURONTIN HAS TERRIBLE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS. MAINTAIN ON LOWEST DOSE OF EFFECTIVENESS AND DEFINITELY TAPER OFF!
Avatar n tn Lyrica is out now and many are now taking that drug instead of neurontin...lyrica can be a drug of abuse and neurontin is considered a safe drug...not to say it can not be abused because as i have seen on the forum...even nyquil, benadryl, otc cough syrupet, etc can be abused...but it is not considered to be habit forming...good luck to ya!
Avatar f tn Neurontin is a great med used for opiate withdrawal however does not relieve you of all symptoms I did take neurontin to help with opiate withdrawal and it worked miracles.. However cold sweats and goose bumps are a pain in the *** and in my opinion is the most annoying part of withdrawal having cold chills in minty degree weather and being hot when a foot of snow is outside...
1474625 tn?1371097079 I've read Neurontin works to relieve some opiate withdrawal symptoms. Does anyone have any experience with this? If so how many milligrams a day did/do you take and how long does it take for the Neurontin to start working? I'm currently taking about 70mg of hydrocodone/day and I want to stop. I hate being on opiate painkillers for so long. I have a prescription for 100mg of gabapentin to take 3x a day. Does anyone know how much to take for cold turkey opiate withdrawal?
Avatar f tn I know the risks of an opiate addicted baby. does anyone have a similar experience w chronic pain and pregnancy. I feel so guilty for taking these meds. also does anyone know when u can get off of them and the baby not suffer withdrawal? ?? help!!
