Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin and migraine headaches

neurontin

Avatar f tn Common side effects of gabapentin include dizziness, somnolence, fatigue, fluid retention, nausea and vomiting. Take as prescribed and check with your doctor if you have any side effects. Take care and do keep us posted.
337492 tn?1212458836 I started on 300mg of neurontin for bipolar disorder a week ago and was aware that another benefit is it would help with my migraines. I also take 500mg of magnesium for my headaches but I space it out so that it will not conflict with the neurontin. I had the strangest migraine last night and my aura was different and I have not suffered a headache for several months, last time being caused by Lamictil.
Avatar f tn I ended up giving her a nurontin and it stopped the migraine immediately. I was just grasping at straws and thought since it was a seizure medicine, that it might stop her episode.
Avatar f tn Funny, I have the same symptoms, and also take Neurontin. How bad are your headaches. What are you taking this drug for. And hw long have you been taking it. I have Fybromyalgia and possibly MS. I take it for nerve pain and have been on it for a year.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I get a wavy line that moves (like a migraine aura without the migraine) for about half an hour in both eyes and it goes away.
Avatar n tn The Yoga Pranayam (breathing exercises) will help control the migraine and cure it over about 4-6 months. The weight gain will stop, and you will start to lose weight.Do the exercises twice a day initially (4 months at maximum duration) and then continue once a day for life to maintain a healthy lifestyle(medicine free). Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after 1 minute.
Avatar f tn All the symptoms you are describing I actually have, because of migraine headaches. Has the doctor actually tried to treat the headaches with migraine meds yet? Topamax is one of the many varied drugs given specifically for migraines but I take Neurontin because my stem from nerve pain. If he has ruled out just migraines then he should have your blood pressure monitored to make sure it's not going too high or too low then eyes, ears and sinuses checked.
Avatar m tn It is also indicated to relieve neuropathic pain such as migraine headaches and nerve-related pain. This drug should not be discontinued abruptly after long term use because it can lead to withdrawal syndrome. Most common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, and swelling of extremities. On the other hand, amitriptyline or Elavil, is a tricyclic antidepressant. It is officially approved as a preventive medication for patients with frequent migraines and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Avatar n tn however where you are speaking of the classis vasospastic migraine wherein the veins and arteries dialate and then spasm shut....yes I am 100% convinced (personal opinion) that the coronary-vascular systems in our bodies do not differentiate between vessels. In other words for some one who is suffering vaso-spasm related desease....I feel its the same mechanism whether occuring in a carotid artery (supplying head blood flow) or coronary artery(supplying heart's flow) or other.....
Avatar f tn I have been getting an aura in both eyes (like a migraine aura with no headache that lasts about 15minutes to a half hour) since I was told to increase my neurontin, daily, but I was also put on Celebrex and Skelaxin at the same time. I've been off of Skelaxin since March 2010. I went off of Celebrex first as I read an article that was in a New Zealand journal of medicine that said it causes rare (9/300 people) visual disturbance.
Avatar f tn I have to look at computer screen all day and this makes it worse and I get very lightheaded and scared to drive. I have been going through this for 4 weeks now and in and out of the hospital with no real answers. They alos say I have some disc problems in my neck and sleep apnea. Some slight left jaw pain. Is this from the eyes, the neck, TMJ, strokes, I am at a loss and need some answers. Also going through menopause, could this contribute? Please help.
Avatar n tn What could be causing me to have all of them. I am under pretty good control as I take neurontin and namenda. Before I was put on namenda i was having rhizotomies almost every three months due to the excruciating pain.
Avatar f tn t stay on it) and Neurontin with Neurontin being the only medicine that provides any relief so far. This is not rebound headache as I rarely ever take OTC or any other medicines except for Neurontin. HELP PLEASE from anyone with experience with this. Family needs me and I need to get back to normal.
Avatar f tn Hi all.... I have had migraines since my very first period and could predict when my next one was coming by the migraine I would get. Over the years I was able to control them, but about three years ago they got really bad to where I had them daily with numbness and tingling, flashing spots and vomitting. My jaw is even sore because I think I must grind my teeth so much that my bite is now crooked. So my doctor did some blood work and an MRI.
Avatar f tn Throughout the years, my headaches turned into neck and shoulder pain and I was sleeping all the time...I was soon diagnoses with fibromyalgia. I've been put on anxiety meds, neurontin, pain meds and muscle relaxers. My neck pain and headaches are now constant. I've seen seen several chiropractors which did not help at all..it actually make my lower back hurt and I ended up in a back brace.
146298 tn?1258712247 I took neurontin for psych reasons years ago and it made me hallucinate and have nightmares; I cannot take that. I get headaches like this a few times a week or once a week depending on if you consider it a new headache just cuz it's a new day ( i don't) and I've found that since I used to just stay up for days in pain before I had the valium, i've found that there's no difference in the headache.
1415174 tn?1453243103 s I started getting migraine headaches (really bad ones) and they gave me Imitrex for them which helped some. Then I started getting the auras too. Only last year I started getting double vision two or three times (very strange thing) then more auras , flying lights , all these visuals then vertigo. The vertigo is the worst because I have no sense of which was is up. Usually, it starts with a spinning and I feel I am going to fall and I do unless someone holds onto me.
Avatar f tn Thanks Nancy. I do have migraine and have a previous dx of complicated migraine. I know it's possible for this to be migraine related, but it happens several times a day. I'm honestly less worried about that than my jaw. I know it's not strictly true, but I figure if it was anything serious, the blurry vision would last for longer than 30 minutes. :) I had hoped the eye dr (optometrist, not opthamologist) would know, but no such luck.
Avatar f tn I was switched to etodolac and promethazine for migraine treatment. I also take soma and neurontin for preventative measures. Good luck with your treatments!!
Avatar m tn That is what I call Tweeks, you get tweeked and more pain for about three days to a week. I was on Neurontin and actually have myofascial pain but they thought it may have been a nerve at first. The neurontin didn't do a thing for me. I was on 1200mg/day and it took me two months to get off of it because I got insomnia and had to take benedryl to get off of it and be able to sleep. It is low on side effects except feeling tired and dumb.
Avatar f tn The post-ictal headache is more generalized and can be steady or throbbing, lasting anywhere from few hours to even longer. Patients with epilepsy also have a higher chance of having migraine and cluster headaches. You should consult your doctor while having an attack of such headaches. Hope it helps.
Avatar f tn ve tried every migraine medicine out there along with all the preventative ones and none have really worked permanently. Last night I had a pretty bad migraine and i put some peppermint oil on my forehead and neck and within 15 minutes it was gone.
Avatar n tn ve never been prescribed neurontin for sleep (i was on it for just a BRIEF time years and years and years ago for headaches, but only took it briefly, for some reason, i was afraid of it at the time!)....anyway, just recently, my mom had some nerve issues and was prescribed neurontin....she's 71 and always has trouble sleeping....while she was on it (for a period of about a month or so), she said she slept like a baby, like she hadn't slept in YEARS!
Avatar n tn I have been having headaches and migraines since i was five and now i am getting them more frequently. I also have been getting deep pressure in specific spots in my head and it feels as though its a headache, but then disappears. I would like for you to suggest certain causes of this.
237053 tn?1258828426 I have to say that I have had the exact same problems/symptoms you are describing and I think they are mostly from Lyme. Now, i still have Neurontin in my medicine cabinet and I use it for my headaches. When I take it, it definitely dulls the headache. The only side effect I get is I feel a little sleepy/stoned, which isn't my favorite thing, especially when I have to work! At best, I think neurontin makes you sleep better and stoned when you are awake. That's about it.
Avatar n tn hi, i have been having these numbing headaches int the last past 5 months and am growing concerned about it im 16 years old and not in perfect health i stress 24/7 even over the coulda shoulda things and bigger. so i wantrd to no is there any help out there about dealing with these things This discussion is related to headaches/numbness in back of head.
1295451 tn?1272480442 I am a 17 year old girl, attending high school. For the past two years i have had severe daily headaches. It's there when i wake up and it's there when i go to sleep. Rarely do i ever have a time when i am headache free, and if i do it's due to the ER and the morphine they give me when it gets really bad. I have had 2 MIR's and a cat scan, they were both clear. As of right now i am seeing my 5th neurologist at the Children's Hospital in Washington DC.
Avatar m tn I would recommend maybe going to the ER and describing the pain and telling them no pain meds are helping and see what they do. My stepdad had pain come on like a migraine and it just kept getting worse and worse until they finally scanned him and discovered it was bleeding in the brain.
