Neurontin and alcohol withdrawal

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin and alcohol withdrawal

neurontin

Avatar f tn I know opiates. I know the pleasure and pain of them. I got the neurontin from a Ear, Nose and Throat specialist. I have had sinus headaches and facial pain for many years. I ALWAYS have a sinus infection. At least thats what my regular doctor tells me. So I went to a specialist. Had some CAT scans. He has not read the films yet but said he does NOT feel its my sinuses since my nose is never runny or stuffy, its always clear and I am a definite nose breather..
479459 tn?1246742019 Hi there, I have posted in the past, but lately just lurking and reading all the great support here. I have had issues with alcohol for 20 years and am an alcoholic. Well, back in Dec I was trying to substitute pain pills, vikes and percs, for when I'd be abstaining. You can imagine what that led to. I got pretty addicted even though my scripts would run out. Went thru major WD a couple months ago but relapsed several times since. Luckily not enough for the big WD to set in.
Avatar n tn I am experenced in all areas and more. I used neurontin many years ago, and had no ill effects. I use cymbalta now for diabetec neuropathy....When you are in trememdous pain, and terrible health you will take anything they give you. I am on 18 different prescriptions a day for heart, diabetes, asthma, emphasema, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, a back that spasms so badly the muscle sticks out over an inch.....oh well etc etc etc....don't just say don't take it....
Avatar f tn Absolutely. I took it (I was prescribed it) when I was going thru a heavy oxycodone withdrawal and it stopped all my withdrawals within 2 hours. I seriously, felt great. I was prescribed a high dose of Lyrica and didn't take it as I didn't believe it would work. (I wanted opiates and was really mad that my doctor wouldn't prescribe them). Anyway, I had heard it worked for opiate withdrawals so I decided to try it and was amazed at how it took away the sweats and everything.
Avatar f tn Do you feel that this is related to stopping Neurontin ??? Also, are Neurontin and Lyrica the same drug? I have been hearing this, but have not found anything to support this in my google search. Do you have any opinions about the use of Neurontin for opiate withdrawal? Nauty..........
Avatar n tn Lyrica is out now and many are now taking that drug instead of neurontin...lyrica can be a drug of abuse and neurontin is considered a safe drug...not to say it can not be abused because as i have seen on the forum...even nyquil, benadryl, otc cough syrupet, etc can be abused...but it is not considered to be habit forming...good luck to ya!
Avatar m tn taking 2000 to 2400 mg per day for the last week to 9 days for alcohol and opiate withdrawal ...feel fine but now I read these posts and I am very concerned ...going to begin tapering now but there aint a whole lot left...if I only bolused it for 7-9 days and now I taper ....am I in for a bad withdrawal scenario?
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist is thinking about it for my anxiety, since nothing is working since a terrible and weird and untreated Paxil withdrawal four years ago. And to the poster, she says it's okay to take with klonopin, if that's any help, since I'm on klonopin and asked her about that.
9704730 tn?1405741284 My doctor put me on neurontin but I think I am now having withdrawal symptoms from neurontin. I have been taking about 900 mg a day since September. It gives me a lot of side effects such as drowsiness and the inability to think quickly. I wanted to know if it is possible that I am still in withdrawal from the tramadol or if it's the neurontin.
Avatar n tn m surprised to hear about neurontin as a street drug. I take it for anxiety. At a low dose it seems to help, and at night I take a higher dose at night to help me sleep -- though I'd rather not take anything. It just makes me really groggy and sometimes gives me a "hangover" the next morning. It also causes wicked drymouth. Certainly not a drug I'd have any thought of abusing. At higher doses, it tends to make people slow and "dumb.
Avatar f tn For my sciatica, they allow me to take tramadol which works ok, but at times the pain is so great and I was wondering could I take the Neurontin and be ok when they administer a urinalysis which they do 3 to 5 times a week.
Avatar f tn Hi Dear The long term effects of Neurontin are still not known completely. However, Neurontin is a relatively safe and effective treatment for pain. Many patients with painful neruopathy have used Neurontin for many years. Typically the side-effects include somnolence, dizziness, and imbalance. Since you have been using Neurontin for 9 years, there does not seem to be a problem continuing it, even at a slightly increased dose.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I have seen in the package insert of Neurontin that it can cause visual disturbances and rare retinal problems etc. I have also seen a New Zealand study recently that said some people get a visual disturbance from Celebrex. I am quitting both for that reason. Has anyone had visual problems from either drug? I get a wavy line that moves (like a migraine aura without the migraine) for about half an hour in both eyes and it goes away.
9704730 tn?1405741284 Congrats on your 1 month off of Tramadol. That, is a huge accomplishment. Withdrawal from Tramadol is a difficult and long process. Hang in there. Hopefully, you will start feeling better soon. Make sure you are staying very hydrated, taking vitamins and supplements, and if at all possible get outside for some mild exercise. Even short walks outside will help. For me during withdrawals, the more I sat or layed around, the worse I felt.
Avatar f tn I have been on Percocet for 10 years and then was taking Ultram to not have withdrawal but after reading all the horror stories on here about Ultram, I tried the Neurontin. I have been on it for 3 days and no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever. I am shocked. I heard it is not addictive either so I'm staying on it for a week or two and then stopping to see if the Perc are out of my system.
Avatar m tn On august 1st, I quit suboxone at 8mg, I had been taking ALOT of neurontin aka gabapentin during the withdrawal to help with symptoms, I was taking around 6,000 to 7,000 mg a day, somedays even 10,000mg but that amount was very rare.
Avatar n tn I have heard that ultram is good for that but then you are addicted to the ultram. I also heard neurontin is helpful and that topomax is similar so I wondered if anyone had tried topomax for withdrawal.
Avatar f tn While I was still detoxing I took Neurontin ( Gabapentin ) and that seemed to help. After I ran out of the Neurontin I took some Lyrica I had at home. I only took it at night hoping it would help with the RLS. I'm not sure about this, but I suspect that RLS, overall restlessness, and the heavyness/tingling are related. You need a RX to get the Neurontin, Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn put alcohol on top of that and more depression. He sounds like my x who relapsed with his addiction after 3 years clean from it....would lie in bed sleeping long hours for days.....and the i'm going to stop!oh yeah!
Avatar f tn Yeah, it made me more nervous, which is common with it. Taurine is much more helpful. The B-6 question depends on how much you're already getting in other supplements and your diet, but the body does need B-6 to make both serotonin and GABA. 5-HTP can work against you when you're in withdrawal, because what's happening is, serotonin receptors are waking up that the body felt weren't necessary anymore because of the reuse of serotonin by other receptors targeted by the Prozac.
Avatar m tn Neurontin SHOULD NOT BE STOPPED ABRUPTLY! NEURONTIN HAS TERRIBLE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS. MAINTAIN ON LOWEST DOSE OF EFFECTIVENESS AND DEFINITELY TAPER OFF!
Avatar f tn m 33 and have had a problem with alcohol for approx 10 years. The main cause is anxiety which I have tried and tried different meds and counciling, all to no avail. I'm not alcohol dependant but when my anxiety gets too bad I end up drinking over a binge of 3 - 4 days. I am about 48 hours after one of these binges. It started Tuesday evening and ended fri around lunchtime I was just so ill I couldn't drink anymore. I think I'd drank 65 units in that time - all vodka.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm a 36 year old female and have been drinking a bottle and half of white wine every night for the past 2 years. My doctor has told me I have slightly elevated red blood cells and B12 levels, but I have not told him my drinking habits. This news really scared me so decided to stop drinking completely immediately. This is my 3rd day of not drinking, I have had trouble sleeping and have also become constipated.
Avatar f tn Alot of the symptoms are the same for anxiety and alcohol withdrawal. Please help as this has never happened to me before.
Avatar m tn If I understand you correctly I think you may have more of a serious hangover as withdrawal effects. But withdrawing from alcohol can be very serious. If you continue to feel really bad I would suggest you going into an ER and telling them the whole deal. Hope you feel better soon. You should if you do not continue to drink.
594255 tn?1219163564 I wholeheartedly agree with ibizan. Detoxing can be a very dangerous thing to attempt on one's own. We don't know the circumstances of your addiction or what else you may or may not be addicted to. In the past i have been through many detox & rehabilitation programs for various substances and although i know what meds to use and have access to them , i would never attempt to detox without proper supervision.
Avatar f tn The two main factors that determine how long a person will go through symptoms are how long the person has been drinking, and how much alcohol that person consumes regularly. Another aspect that needs consideration is the extent of that particular person’s chemical dependency. Everyone’s body reacts differently to the effects of alcohol; therefore, it is hard to conclude how long recovery will take.
