neupogen shot

I find that really odd - that you are having a reaction to neupogen 16 days after the shot. I believe neupogen is fast acting and does not stay in the system very long. Many cancer patients receive several shots, days in a row, to bring up the WBC levels.

I am at week 36 and having problems with my wbc, my dr gave me a shot of neupogen and said nothing else . I woke at 4 am with the worst bone pain I ever had , feel like my hips and back are broken , did anyone else have this, when I called my dr I was told noone experianced such bad pain but me, anyone? My dr is against giving any pain meds for this treatment no matter what and I fear he is simply not sympathetic to me.Am I just a big baby?

So the doc finally agreed to a neupogen shot, after many delayed shots of pegasys. I was supposed to do a shot tuesday, however got bloodwork done today and anc is 620, Doc says to take neupogen tonight (I did, the neupogen is 300mcg, im ~130lbs) and get more bloodwork done on thursday, and then he'll call friday with whether or not to take the shot or not. So here I am, waiting, again. Arggg!

hi again,yes truly bone and musle pain stiff neck so at least 3 days,so i went ahead did my other neuprogen last nite, then i go get blood work done tues. and see the gi dr. on thurs.i truly hope i dont have to take that anymore.so nov.4th is my last of pegaferion yeah,then nov.11 the last of rivoverion. you know when i had my 1st shot of peg. 3.5 hours later it was pretty painful,im not a weeny i can handle pain but this is a pain i could do without. so from then on i took childrens ibpro.

Thanks. Did neupogen shot Wednesday nite and interferon shot Friday . Now it's Saturday morning and I feel off, but nothing like the neupogen side effects. So on with treatment and clearing this virus!!!!! Thank you all for posts.....

I have been sent home with the instructions to take two neupogen shots a week, 300 mcg per shot. Take one the same day as shot on Monday and then a second neupogen shot on Thursday. Does anyone have any input on this? What about folks saying NOT to take it the same day as your shot?

t know if it would drop that quickly. I do my interferon shot on Friday eve and cbc and neupogen shot on Monday. Mondays ANC levels are always much lower than Thursday's cbc. If possible, maybe you could do the cbc the day prior to the interferon shot to see the difference. Smart move on reducing to a 40 hr week since rest may become more important as you get further into trt.

Did your doctor tell you the amount of Neupogen you will be taking?? 300mg ? 480mg? My #'s dropped @ 5 wks to 1.1 and I have to take a neupogen shot every wk now--300mg... #'s have not gone back up so I continue to take a shot once a wk... I really don't experience any side affects from it--but I really wouldn't know because I take it at the same time I do my weekly pegasys shot-- Friday nite..I'll be doing my 11th shot--(pegasys) tonight and my 5th neupogen tonight...

How much neupogen are you guys taking per shot.

Should I be concerned my wbc spiked to 22 after neupogen shot and a reduction in pegys to 135.Does it do you any harm for that to happen. They gave me the shot when my wbc was 2.2. I've been getting 2 or 3 shots for the last month and its always stayed in the range of from 1.3 to 3.6.

The got the neupogen shot. Then on Thursday the ANC was often around 0.5-0.7 and had the second shot of the week. The last few months of tx I started skipping the Thursday shot. However, after eot I had to continue with the one shot of neup per week, since the ANC took almost a month to come back in range. Do you have a cbc run prior to each neupogen shot to determine your ANC?

I am supposed to receive Neupogen tomorrow. Did my peg shot this morning. I'm sure I will get instructions with the med but it's good to get some input from those who are currently treating with it. Are we supposed to wait 24 hrs after the peg shot to inject Neup? Should I inject more slowly than I do with Peg? Docs office told me to reduce peg today to 135 mcg but I didn't (me not listen - what a revelation) because I knew I was getting the Neup tomorrow.

Ok so here's the deal, I get a blood test two days before my shot. Last week the neutophils and wbcs were low so the doc had me delay my shot a couple days (I usually take it on friday, he had me wait till monday), I got a blood test on Monday and they went up a bit, so the doc let me take the shot (that was shot #11). I just got my lab results from this week back, and am a bit (ok ALOT) unsettled. The # of neutrophils is 0.67, bands%3, segs%23, wbcs 2.59K/uL.

Have been trying to cost what a ceiling amount might be for a 12 week period to see if I can organise sufficient funds. Neupogen in prepared syringes are sold in packs of 10 - $1504 for 3000mcg/.5ml shots and $2407 for 480mcg/.5ml shots. I realise that amount required is case dependant but wouldnt mind any info which might assist me to at least get some idea of the range which may generally apply.

I am travelling this weekend and had taken my shot early, otherwise I would have had to reduce to 135 mcg. They are ordering Neupogen and I will start taking it as soon as the pharmacy sends it. I've avoided it all these weeks but my whites just keep getting lower & lower. Pitfall of treatment. It's a good thing we have these rescues. Don't worry, you'll be OK. What's one more shot anyway.

Hi,that neupogen kicked my butt too.I could sleep for the whole day after a shot,My doctor wanted me to take 2 shots a week but that was very difficult because of having to go to work.As soon as my levels went up a little I cut back to 1 shot a week and then back to 2 a week only when I had to. good luck to you. I did it for 48 weeks.

I just read that a lot of people try NOT to take Neupogen unless it is a necessity due to sx. I am on Neupogen and I take it 3 times a week and have been taking it for 8 mos. now. Does anyone know exactly why people/anyone would want to NOT take Neupogen? Your answers may provide some insight for me and my sx's.

It has been one week since the last treatment and my WBC count is 900 (ninehundred) Can they now give me a neupogen shot. I would think they should take a count daily. and give Neupogen if it till it corrects.

3 or less on Monday after the Friday Inf shot. Prior to each neupogen shot I had a cbc to determine if the neup shot was necessary. Once I started at 8 weeks it continued throughout the 48 week tx. I've heard the same from others, that once you begin it will likely continue throughout tx. I've read from a few where their ANC recovered on its own and they only needed a few weeks of neup. So it appears the response is indivual, like many things.

2x week was too much, and after stopping 10 days with starting WBC after 4 shots, at 23, I tanked on day 10 without neupogin at 1.8. Now I am 2.7 on day 6 after last shot of neupo. Has anyone needed neupo and then not? Or did you need the who time, and how did you know you didn't need it? Were you taken off for trail periods?

I took my first shot of neupogen on a sat evening and had my cbc on wed. My ANC and WBC went back up to a normal range after just one shot so it does work fast. I did take my INF as usual on the following friday 4/4/08. I've taken one more shot of neupogen and if my anc stays up there I wont' have to take it anymore. Whoo! Hoo! One a wk is enough for me. I hope you the best....

Sorry, I meant I would be taking my third shot 2 days late if I need to give that 2 days between Neup shot and INF shot. I was supposed to take my 3rd INF shot tomorrow night but I can take it Sunday I was thinking. Also, if my GI wants to see my blood test before I take my 3rd shot, I was thinking I maybe could go to the hospital to get a CBC and results immediately? I see this as an emergency, I'm on medication and my drs. don't know what to do, so this is on me.....

3 or below and I was taking two neupogen shots per week. In your case I wonder if only one shot might be sufficient if your doctor insists on you going this route. In my experience my ANC was at its lowest a few days after the interferon shot, then very quickly rebounded after the neup shot. The only was to tell is to do a cbc just before the neupogen shot to see if its required. Hopefully they will allow this and watch is closely.

I am not on chemotherapy but I have to take Neupogen 2x/week at 480mcg a shot. The bone pain I have is horrible, the weirdest pain I have ever had before. My bone marrow gets so swollen that I can actually feel my heart beat in my femur, pelvis and ribs. That happens if I get up too fast, or bend over. On top of that I have the "bone aches and sharp zings" of pain for a day and a half after a shot. The first night I woke up shaking, because of the pain my body was experiencing.
