Nefazodone vs trazodone

Common Questions and Answers about Nefazodone vs trazodone

serzone

Avatar f tn I might have a solution for you after examining the pharmacology of Nefazodone. To get about the same result you had with Nefazodone with no weight gain I would recommend sertraline (Zoloft) combined with Wellbutrin XL. To get a significant antagonizing effect to your 5-HT2 receptors you would need mirtazapine but it is related with weight gain so I would try the Zoloft with Wellbutrin XL which will basically in a SNDRI like Nefazodone and see how it goes.
Avatar m tn Diagosed with obstructive sleep apnea and ADD. Been taking trazodone 50mg nightly for about the last year and a half, and it has pretty much became ineffective recently. Where I was averaging 7-9 hours sleep, I'm down to 4-6 and waking up numerous times during this time. I am also taking Adderall 20mg, once when I wake up, and 10mg about 4 hours later, and another 10 mg later, if needed, but seldom take the last one.
Avatar f tn Fluoxetine, venlafaxine, Trazodone or back on Citalopram which I was on for about 20 years but began giving me bracycardia last time I was on them after having a break from them. Please advise.
Avatar n tn Odd, but persistent over years before I tried trazodone, then lexapro. Trazodone still helps me sleep, PRN. I like it bec it's not addictive or anti-chlorinergic.
Avatar m tn I've had chronic, severe nausea for the past year and I can't take it anymore. I get nauseated after everything I eat. It doesn't matter what. I can't even have breakfast anymore (I went from eating solids to drinking liquids, and now I can't eat anything at all). Sometimes I feel like I'm not even hungry, and other times I feel horribly hungry. I can only have small meals now and I can't have dairy or bread.
380530 tn?1239162538 prescribed Trazodone for sleep. He prescribed 50 mgs. I started with a 1/4 of a tablet and every day built it up by another 1/4 tablet. I am now taking two 50 mg tablets. Its been about 10 days since I first started taking the Trazodone. It doesn't seem to be helping me sleep. I have very vivid dreams and am only able to sleep for 2 - 3 hrs. During the 2 - 3 hrs I don't feel like I am in a deep sleep because I am having wild dreams most of the time.
Avatar f tn I've been taking trazodone. Does anyone know if trazodone makes you gain weight? If so, is it because of increase appetite or the pill itself that makes you gain weight?
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist prescribed Trazodone to help me sleep. I was on it for one week and started having chest pains, tachycardia and dizziness. I went to the ER because I was concerned. The said nothing was wrong with my heart. So I tried to find the answer elsewhere. I looked up the side effects of Trazodone. All my syptoms and more are listed. I went back to the doctor yesterday. I told him what happened.
Avatar m tn Has anyone tried trazodone for sleep while detoxing? I also have Melatonin that I took last night. Relaxed me a bit but didnt quite put me to sleep.
1468545 tn?1296601775 Been clean for 17 days now and had a Dr visit today and he perscribed me trazodone for sleep. Im very hesitant to take these. I told him my whole situation and made it very clear that I didnt want to trade off my addiction for something else that would be a problem. If this wouldnt become a problem and provided me with some sleep great, but it seems like taking anything comes with a cost. Anything I should be aware of or suggestions of if I should even take them?
1915001 tn?1322662784 Hi Everyone! Does anyone have experience w taking Trazodone in the evening to relieve anxiety symptoms associated w WD symptoms and to induce sleep?
Avatar m tn I called the pharmacist and he insists that these types of symptoms are extremely rare so it is extremely unlikely that the symptoms were caused by the trazodone... it seems bizzarely cooincidental to me. He has stopped taking the trazodone (was prescribed to help him sleep, and it didn't do a particularly good job at that anyways), but is now worried about taking a prescribed medication he may not need. Help?
Avatar f tn Tramadol is a freaky drug. It's marketed as a non-narcotic because it's not chemically alike to traditional opiates. However, it acts on the same receptors in a similar way to opiates. Therefore, for addiction purposes, it's treated as an opiate. I also read a paper recently that said that it's mechanism of action is alike Trazodone (an old school antidepressant). This certainly explains the extreme depression after cessation.
Avatar m tn Personally I have been able to work my way through a list of meds to find one that works for me; Trazodone, Rozerem, Lunesta, Ambien, and finally Ambien CR which I consider a miracle drug. Hope this helps and hope you decide to see your doc. Good Luck!
Avatar m tn Did the doctor tell me to stop taking it too soon? should I start taking trazodone again for a longer time? How long should I keep taking the Trazodone to completely overcome the performance anxiety? I feel confused because I read that Trazodone sometimes have a reversed effect if taken for too long. Please advise me.
Avatar n tn I have come off of a lot of my medications. My final meds are Wellbutrin, Trazodone and Cymbalta. The Wellbutrin is suppose to take the place of the cymbalta. After horrible withdrawal, I came completely off of Cymbalta last week. I became so depressed that I couldn't stand to talk, much less move. All I wanted to do was sleep and be left alone. When I did interact, I was grizzly mean.
Avatar n tn I have recently been prescribed 50-100mg of trazodone at night for sleep, but I was wondering if the anti-depressant effects are lasting? Will the serotonin regulation last through the day?
Avatar m tn Trazadone is an antidepressant of the serotonin antagonist and reuptake inhibitor (SARI) class. It is a phenylpiperazine compound. Trazodone also has anti anxiety (anxiolytic) and sleep-inducing (hypnotic) effects. It has a multiple off-label uses including chronic pain.
Avatar f tn Anyway, there are lots of options - ranging from a number of medications that have been well studied such as nefazodone, mirtazapine, and the tricyclic antidepressants, to supplements that seem to be effective (although probably somewhat less so) such as hypericum and s-adenosyl methionine. Finally there are a number of medications that are not routinely prescribed for depression that might be of use, and that list is a bit long to put here. In any event, the answer is yes.
