Neck pain when turning head

Common Questions and Answers about Neck pain when turning head

neck

Avatar n tn Hi! I've been getting increasingly dizzy when I turn my head to the side. I also get pain in my neck when I turn it, and can't turn it very far. It often feels sore, like the muscles in the back have just had a work out. It also feels stiff and like I need to crack it. It often cracks on its own when I move it. There is also some numbness I did used to crack my neck when I was younger. I do have some pressure in my ears, but the neck issues have been happening longer.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Generally pain in the back portion of the head and neck pain originate from the neck problems due to irritation in the cervical (neck) spine since the nerves that supply the back of the head start in the upper cervical spine. Mostly, this kind of head pain aggravates after turning head and typically occurs in patients with previous neck injuries and in patients with marked arthritis of the upper cervical spine.
Avatar f tn If I sleep on my stomach with my head free (head is then outside bed) so my head goes down, then i dont hear it at all even if turn to the right. I went to ENT and he provided hearing test and told me that I lost high frequency hearing on both ears and this is because I worked as a DJ in the past. I didn't believe that. TMJ specialist said all ok. I went to physiotherapy and Chiropractor and they told me that my left side had more tension than right side. (so the side of the tinnitus).
Avatar m tn For several weeks I get a pain in the back of my head when I turn my head (not every time I turn my head) Also when I bite down and pulled a piece of jerky with my teeth I got the pain in the back of my head. It also feels like there was static making the back of my hair stand up and I have a short military hair cut and my wife looked and said no hair was moving. I did go to the med clinic for pain in my back and they said I had pulled something the pain went from my back to my shoulder.

Avatar n tn The pain is in the same spot where I had the vicegrip feeling. It feels almost as if the vein in my neck and the pain in my chest when I turn my head left are connected. I do not know if these are early warning signs or if I am just worried. I mentioned to the pains in my chest to my doctor but he is focusing on my asthma and I just worry we may miss something very important.
Avatar f tn But the spinal compression makes sense. Right now my neck muscles (that run down the back of the neck) are so tight that when I turn, it hurts and causes the vertigo. So, it may be a combination of my unique anatomy in the cervical area and the damaged ligaments and overworked muscles that I need to address. I am hoping to find the answer someday and with assistance from concerned people such as yourself, I will eventually get to a state of balance again!!
Avatar f tn s way worse!!! Every time I move my neck it hurts. When I turn it to the side, Its a pretty sharp pain about an 8 out of ten that shoots all the way from the top to bottom. Letting my head lay straight down doesn't really hurt. Turning it in any way or putting it back hurts. Sleeping hurts. And I never rallied how much Swoosh my head to move my bangs until recently, when it started to hurt. I am so tired of this.
Avatar f tn When are you supposed to stop lifting your arms above your head?
Avatar m tn I don't have the answer. I wish I did as this has been happening to me since I was a young child, only I always get the burning ear and numb tongue. I was hoping to find some answers here.

Avatar n tn Sometimes I can't crack my neck on the left side (just by turning my head you know?) and when I do it'll hurt. It doesn't hurt every time, and sometimes it has actually felt better after. What causes this? Is it bad to crack your neck?
Avatar n tn Without medication pain level is above 10, after medication pain level is 9. My pain is so severe that it appears to lock the turning of my neck to the right. I am asking for any help regarding if there is exercises for this type of problem. My mornings after waking are the worse for me. I have been sleeping with 2 pillows under my legs, flat on my back, and 1 pillow under my head but this doesn't seem to be helping either. Is there any help for me?

Avatar f tn I'm 35 weeks and for the past 3 or 4 days I couldn't turn my head because my neck hurts so darn bad. Tilting it side to side or twisting it, or pretty much just moving it in general hurts. I've tried massaging it, Tylenol and just resting but it doesn't seem to help any. Any ideas on how to get the pain stop? I'm afraid to drive at this point because I can't turn to look.
Avatar n tn I think the first thing you should do is get this checked out by your doctor and see what he thinks... he might be able to give you an answer just by your description of what is going on. He might also need to order an MRI, but this might not be needed, you'll find out at the appointment. The sharp quick headaches that go away in seconds sound like "ice-pick" headaches... which are usually totally harmless headaches that you can't really do anything about...
Avatar n tn Much of neck pain is actually muscle pain. When you moved the neck, you relaxed the muscle some, and so when you repeated the movement it didn't hurt. But neck pain also usually comes with some pressure on the nerves as well as on the muscles and so the pain can move around. When you say overexertion, exactly what did you do? If you strained some muscles, they take as long as they take to heal. Long for some, quick for others. Quick for young people, longer for older folks.

Avatar n tn finding it hard to turn my head numbness in my hands and fingers and just some really bad pain in my neck that radiates into my shoulders and down my spine. I got and MRI and was wondering if the finding here are normal just something that comes with age or do I have a serious problem.. I have yet to see my Dr. not for another 2 weeks. but the pain keeps getting worse I went and got a copy of the mri report. It states.
Avatar f tn I also had a cracking or crunching sound while turning or moving my head. I had a habit of cracking my neck due to increasing stiffness. Turns out the crunching sound was my vertebrae in my neck due to disk narrowing. I would recommend going to your dr for a ct or mri to see whether you have disk issues.
Avatar f tn precipitation of head pain by neck movement or awkward neck positions, head pain when external pressure is applied to the neck or occipital region (as it sounds like is the case in you), restricted range of motion of the neck, and neck, shoulder and arm pain. Treatment for cervicogenic headache includes physical therapy, medications including anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs such as ibuprofen), muscle relaxants, behavioral therapy, and other modalities.
Avatar m tn Headaches I just want to slam my head against a wall. shoulder pain and diffuse mid and upper back pain. this is not normal by any means. I refuse to take any meds except ibuprophen until i get an answer so pain med seeking can't be used to stop looking for answers. So I suffer without diagnosis. I beg for help or suggestions. Is impingement not considered pain worthy? or does it have to have compression and what is the difference ? solve my delemia and I owe you my life.
Avatar f tn thanks for ur answer dr,i do get them sometimes when turning my head from side to side ,but also i do get them with out reason.
Avatar m tn I have had a stiff neck for well over a year and every doctor I went to didn't help at all. I can barely turn my neck to the right or left. I need to turn my whole body. My sternocleidomastoid muscle becomes incredibly tense even when I do just a minor turn. Also I need to crack my neck a lot or I will feel uncomfortable. Everyday I have been trying to improve my neck by doing neck rolls etc.

Avatar n tn When i use my arms above my head,or holding my head up on its own or turning my head to one way i feel nausea and dizzy
Avatar f tn At the same time since you have difficulty in turning your head and pain in the neck and shoulders cervical spondylosis also needs to be excluded. Another cause could be migraine which can cause all these symptoms. Please discuss these possibilities with your neurologist. Keep us posted!
