Avatar f tn Often the condition worsens after a year or so and results in chronic pain. You should have been provided with an axial traction device and have been directed to use it for several minutes at a time, several times a day. And to keep well-hydrated. Use of naproxin alone is pointless. A collar is contra-indicated. X-rays are pointless. If the problem continues you should get an MRI of the cervical area to determine the degree (if any) of structural damage.
Avatar f tn I get a pain in the back of my neck when I do push ups. When I stop, the back of my neck begins to throb. It stops after a minute but the pain can become too much during the exercise. I started doing neck stretches before hand, but it doesn't help. Any ideas??

I initially thought the cause was my pillow; increased exercise; poor form during exercise, age, etc. Finally, so painful that I visited my primary care dr. thinking it was a disc problem - dr. ordered an MRI. I am also experiencing periodic burning sensation in left ring/pinkie fingers and occasional numbness along with a general clumsiness or stiffness in both hands.

Avatar n tn See the doctor to find out the cause so that you can get the appropriate treatment. Wear a scarf to keep your neck warm and don't sit in any draughts. If you have a heat pack, that may help. Shoulder and neck massage and applying pain relief gels may help too. Important thing is to get a correct diagnosis to what is causing the problem.
