1679858 tn?1346765181 t last long till the pain starts.I was told to sleep on my side...not stomach as it is not good for the neck....flat on the back is not good either.....for me it is too much pressure , plus I have reflux and need to be on an incline. The problem with sleeping on my side is I also have EDS and my shoulder pops in and out of joint and it hurts as well as my hip...
Avatar m tn Lots of other things too but the neck and shoulders are the worst. My question is how do I sleep at night so I dont wake up in pain? Is there a way to make it more comfortable or does everyone have this problem ? Thanks for any advice you can give me.
541953 tn?1262586226 I stay like this the entire night, not moving at all, since any other position causes me great pain. Usually sleep in tee shirt shorts and tee.
472570 tn?1274685887 Since your migraines are so often triggered by head/neck/back position, I agree with SurgiMenopause that you should have some scans done to make sure that there is nothing structurally wrong (it is possible for malformations or injuries to cause symptoms like this). Try to get an appointment with a neurologist and ask if you should have a CT Scan or an MRI on your brain and upper spine. Keep in touch! Let us know if you find anything that helps you with these position related migraines.
Avatar m tn ve been sleeping on my back these days but was curious if its possible to sleep sideways.... I just feel like any other position would cause painful repercussions...
1457124 tn?1351525842 I have had some trouble with different pain meds interfering with sleep...have you tried trazadone? Maybe when you get a good position it might be an option. I will pray you can find that position and comfort..
Avatar f tn Get rid of your pillow, sleep with the arm that hurts you in an extended straight position and do not sleep with it in a bent position. Your neck will stretch during the night, but if you bend your arm, it will not extend into your arm." I did that and the next day I woke up and 90% of my pain was gone! I will do it again tonight, but what a huge relief! Thank you Lord!
592323 tn?1220549358 I have been having severe neck pain, numbness and tingling in hands, arms and legs, IBS, bowel discomfort, loss of vision in right eye, black spots in my left eye, sudden sharp pains to my head, trouble concentrating, irritability, and numbness in the right side of my face. My arm went extremely numb one night in bed and I thought I was having a heart attack. Most of my symptoms are only on one side of the body. This has been going on for years and worsened.
Avatar m tn My wife has had the above condition for several years. Sudden pain from top of neck which travels almost to back of her head. Until recently, these episodes have ended almost immediately and the pain went away. The episodes occur about twice/three times per month.... always during the morning - before noon. Very recently, the attacks have become worse whereby she has to lie down and take a pain killer (GP advice).
5569747 tn?1370091638 Sleep positions are often the culprit for many neck and back issues. You should attempt to learn a new position that does not put your arms or neck in a contorted position. Try a new pillow, etc.
Avatar f tn After each one, he comes out feeling ten times worse than when he went in. Something about the position they have you in for that length of time, being uncomfortable, neck positioning - I'm not sure, as I've never had an MRI. But just curious if this happens to anyone else with chiari?
Avatar f tn Hi, I've been having neck pain for almost 2 weeks, went for a check up and the pain comes and goes, more like a spasm in my neck. I was given meds (muscle relaxant) and, for the first 3 days, all I did was sleep but on my 4th day, I stopped it because I couldn't breathe, it was making me feel exhausted, like extremely exhausted and I couldn't sleep but I felt so drained. I stopped taking any meds because of the side effect.
Avatar f tn What is the cause of my neck pain? Is it a pinched nerve? back pain pillow This discussion is related to neck issues.
Avatar f tn If you sleep on your side, try putting a pillow in between your legs - this helps to keep the spine in better alignment. If you are a back sleeper, you can try putting a couple of pillows under your knees to help keep the pressure off your lower back and hips. They also sell wedge type things made for this purpose also that tend to work better - mainly because they don't slide around like the pillows could.
Avatar f tn Night times is not a good time for me either. When ever I lay down, I feel the intense pain in my neck, which makes it really hard to fall asleep. I try and get myself in the most comfortable position before bed. I went out and bought a 4 inch memory foam mattress pad, which helps a little. I can only stay in one position for an hour or two before I must get up. I will move to the couch. I will go back and fourth all night. Sometimes the pain is so bad that I will not sleep at all.
1999615 tn?1327361744 I sleep in the fetal position, and I sometimes wake up from pain in my hands or wrists because I seem to curl my hands inwards tightly in my sleep, ...does anyone know why someone would spend most of her time curled up, (whole body), ....I've had a tremendous zappy jolt go thru my head and down my neck, ...that so surprized me I stopped stunned, couldn't even react or think for several moments. There is so much more but I realize I can't fit it all here.....
Avatar m tn Maybe a better pillow or changing sleep position if your neck is in an awkward position. You could try relaxing or massaging your neck. Most sinus headaches need antibiotic treatment. See a doctor if you're concerned or if you're not getting better.
Avatar m tn A van side swipped her mini-van and cause some severe neck damage. This damage cause constant pain in her neck, migrains, and some numbness. The treatment they prescribed was getting cold injections to the nerves in neck and head. She received three treatments over the past year with some short term relief of pain but always come back. Beside this treatment she been doing a routine of physiotherapy, deep tisse massage, water therapy with some relief but not enough.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have a neck problem too. I have neck pain just by sitting and tingling and numbness in my right arm. Anyways, I found this book on how to treat your back and neck by Robin McKenzie. It gives you exercises you can do. I started doing them my condition improved a lot. I still have problems but getting better. You should give it a try.
785584 tn?1273249232 my NS sent me back to physical therapy for six weeks to work on my neck muscles. she believes that is causing alot of my pain. i disagree. i know that i have weaker neck muscles as a result of the surgery but - they arent that bad to cause the pain and symptoms i continue to have. i have an appt at Johns Hopkins on the 11th (ironic, i know) for a second opinion. my procedure was done under different circumstances than many others. i couldn't "doctor shop" for the best.
137307 tn?1330973997 Hey ya'll, Had my craniotomy/laminectomy (without duraplasty) last August. Well for about the last month I've started having a lot of pain in my neck when laying down. Seems I can't get in a comfortable position and have to get up a lot. I didn't have any problems laying after surgery or up until now. Anyone else have this or know why it is starting now?
Avatar f tn The discs in my neck are very arthritic I also had reverse shoulder replacement 7 weeks ago. The neck pain started 2 weeks ago. It is very dibilatating. Can’t sleep or find any comfortable position.
1679858 tn?1346765181 Severe fog, aching down my spine, heavy legs, along with neck pain. My doctor THEN informed me that I had mild sleep apnea (a year after the diagnosis!) I now have a cpap machine which is helping (amazingly) with morning neck and head pain. It took 7 years to get this help! Cervical mri in a week. Just wanted to share this sequence of events. Hope this helps someone get the right help (sooner than I did!
Avatar n tn Sorry if this is the wrong section to post this under. I'm 17 and have been having this for 3-4 weeks now. I will get random pain (burning) in the back right side of my neck I don't even know how to properly explain it really. When it does happen it starts in the back right side of my neck goes down my back and to my head it then makes my entire head twitch back and forth for like 3 seconds and then for some reason I get cold sweats and an immense amount of anxiety for like 30 seconds.
Avatar n tn Pay attention to your sleeping position. Try ibuprofen. Get a friend to massage your neck, looking for knots to press. Go to YouTube looking for exercises for neck pain. Get referred to a physical therapist if this doesn't resolve.
