1554181 tn?1294328303 With the rizotomy I still have all the other symptoms, the discomfort in neck and head is the worst of them, but at least no pain. This gives me quality of life I otherwise would not have had. My neurosurgeon prefers not to operate unless it becomes critical to do so. In South Africa not many cases of ACM is seen. I am lucky to be at a NS who has knowledge of it and is careful in his treatment. It does not take away the ACM or change the progression, only controls pain.
Avatar n tn I have been having server head (back of head) and neck pain for about 4-5 weeks. I have had no relief of pain. I was hospitilzed in Feb for 3-4 days, and they say that I just have a cluster migrain. I keep telling tell that this is not my tiypical mygrain! it is different! I have sever head pain that sometime runs to my shoulder. I have to go to the hospital about every two weeks or so, just to get relief.
Avatar f tn numbness in the ear and back portion of the head originates from the neck problems due to irritation in the cervical (neck) spine since the nerves that supply these areas start in the upper cervical spine. Mostly, this kind of pain aggravates after turning head and typically occurs in patients with previous neck injuries that causes disc bulge and in patients with marked arthritis of the upper cervical spine.
Avatar f tn When I get a migraine, I've found some relief by putting an ice pack wrapped in cloth or a water bottle filled with cold water on the base of my skull/top of my neck. Also peppermint or peppermint gum helps ease the associated nausea a bit. I hope you feel better soon.

Avatar m tn But I have no neck pain in the beginning (November,2011), but I am experiencing continuous headache and mild neck pain. The doctor prescribed medicines like Alprox 0.25 mg, Cap Engaba, Tab Ostflex OD for 10 days. During the period of usage of these medicines, I got some relief but the headache still remains. Then as per advise of Doctor, I underwent physiotherapy for 1 week and doing exercises for the neck. I underwent MRI scan for spain with the following result.

1302779 tn?1287405029 Cervicogenic headache is a controversial form of headache arising from structures in the neck. It is a unilateral fixed headache that presents with non-throbbing pain that starts in the neck and spreads to the front. Attacks of neck/head pain may be worsened by sustained neck movements or stimulation of tender points in the same area. Diagnosis of cervicogenic headache can be made based on the criteria established in 1998 by the Cervicogenic Headache International Study Group.
1710955 tn?1309446473 Mary- I totally agree with scheduling the LP earlier in the week. It only makes sense! Well the meds didn't work at all. I went to the ER today and had IV fluids, a bunch of IV drugs (they left me feeling high as a kite-yuck), and some caffeine pills. It got rid of the headache but the neck pain is still there. I'm worried that the headache will return once the meds ware off. Whatever happens it better be gone by Wednesday because I have a hair appt and by God I'm keeping it!
Avatar f tn The only relief I received was when I was given dilauded IV. I have a history of severe neck pain after a migraine attack and it sometimes triggers yet another migraine if I don't treat the neck pain. My history with narcotics is limited to a few surgeries I have had in the past. But with every time I've needed something narcotic, my doctor has had to "play" with what I get because I seem to have a "tolerance" which makes me have to get stronger meds.
611254 tn?1223914841 I was recently diagnosed with C5-6 Cervical Degenerative Disk Disease, C3-4 Cervical Arthritis, C6-7 bulging disk in my neck and C3-4 Spondylitic disease. Therefore I have terrible neck and shoulder pain as well as a chronic headache that bands the lower back of my head from ear to ear. Aleve, Advil and Tylenol isn't helping with my pain nor my headaches. I was given Darvocet for pain relief but one doesn't help and if I take two, it makes me physically ill.
Avatar n tn I've been getting painful headaches when I physically tense up to do something, sort of like an isometric movement. The intense pain subsides, but there's a residual headache that lasts for several hours.
Avatar n tn Have you asked your Doctor about something for the pain? Fiorinal is great for headaches. It will knock my Husbands out every time and his is so bad he is usually down for two days if he doesn't take the Fiorinal. Other than that you can try peppermint oil and rub it on your neck and temples. Also neck massages seem to help my hubby. There is Excedrin migraine too which may help. I wish I could offer you more help. Have you tried a heating pad on your neck?
6150006 tn?1496080243 It was primarily my vision & balance, rather loss of adequate of both. I had been in an accident, rear ended at 45mph. I had immediate neck, shoulder & hand pain. As time went on, I did not get better. One month after the accident I had a vitreal detachment. There was a slow progression of symptoms until 6 months later when I had the 1st MRI that revealed CM.
Avatar n tn Since a reclining chair helps cure your headache, it is probably a spinal headache. A headache that worsens on standing up and improves or disappears on lying flat is a spinal headache. This happens when the CSF pressure in the brain falls. This usually happens after spinal anesthesia, spinal taps, or spinal injuries. However in some people this happens without a cause. This is known as spontaneous intracranial hypotension.
