The most common symptoms of lupus are joint pain w/swelling, fatigue and the rash. These symptoms wax and wane. The joint swelling is not immediately evident. My joints didn't start to turn red and swell until about a year and a half of tremendous symptoms. So, yes, it is a progressive disease in some. I have heard of some that have symptoms that come on suddenly w/ organ involvement. Other things that can mimic lupus are: fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and lymes.

Thanks for the updated information. Joint pain, muscle pain, fatigue is all associated with lupus. This is in no way a diagnostic statement. If it is an autoimmune disease, they can be very tricky. Praying for you and your daughter. There are web sites that allow you to put in symptoms and it comes out with possibilities.
I don't want to write a book, but here are a list of my symptoms below. My grandmother has MS and Lupus and my 4 yr old is complaining of joint pain, low grade fevers, and rashes. gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001140/ I don't have Lupus, but I do have Fibromyalgia and chronic migraine disorder, so I know how miserable overall body pain and headaches and neck aches are. The Neck pain could be Lupus Arthritis, and Lupus sufferers are twice as likely as the general population to suffer from migraine like headaches, although these headaches can be treated differently than migraines. Neurological symptoms are often one of the first major signs of Lupus, so the posible stroke also fits in. Here are some likns from my favorite Lupus website. This is the UK site, and I think it is much better than the US site. This one is about eye problems: http://www.uklupus.co.
Most people with lupus have joint pain (arthritis) at some time. About 70% of people with lupus report that joint and muscle pain was their first sign of the disease. Joints may be red and warm, and may swell. Morning stiffness may also be felt. Lupus arthritis often occurs on both sides of the body at the same time, particularly in the wrists, small joints of the hands, elbows, knees, and ankles. Skin problems: Most people with lupus develop skin rashes.

I have lupus and it took years to get diagnosed. Also on plaquenil. Also weird head pain feels like scalp pain like my hair hurts or something.Itchy skin could mean hep c get tested i was shocked when diagnosed. They then found out I had cryoglobunmia which is associated with both the lupus and the hep. The red dots are from the cryoglob. Your lupus tests can come up neg like mine did for some time but there are compliment tests and criteria to meet in order to be diagnosed it took me three years.

Just know that while they are doing it IT HURTS but as soon as they are done, so is the pain. You may want to start with something small you can always go back or have more added just to get an idea of the pain. Also mine is on my ankle I guess that hurts more than other places. Best of Luck, you will be fine.
Does the level of dsDNA determine how symptomatic one may be and does it typically predict the serverity of the Lupus symptoms one may get? Does the fact that he has had minor symptoms and no traditional Lupus symptoms (rash, photosensitivity, no major achy joints) mean that he may have a mild case?
(the other tests can show up in other diseases or in healthy people). The most common form of lupus is SLE or systemic lupus erythamatosis (sp). The other is discoid lupus - whcih mainly only affects the skin (can affect some ohter parts of body, but mainly skin) and drug-induced lupus, whcih is caused by certain drugs and goes away when drug is stopped. Chances are, you have SLE, which can affect different systems in your body including skin, heart, lungs, kidneys and brain.

I would like to have laser lipotherm on my neck. I am 57 and have had lupus for 25 years. It is well-controlled and I only take celebrex for arthritis pain. Is lipotherm a possibility? I am in otherwise good health.
I think you should be treated for Lupus. I have my Lupus undercontrol but still feel extreme fatigue, joint stiffness and pain, thyroiditis etc I have only once in the early days had a positive blood test. My Rheumy said it can take a couple of years after onset of symptoms to show up in your blood work. A good Rheumy would give you a clinical diagnosis (based on symptoms) and start treatment now. I would find another Rheumatologist.
Constant fatigue, major body pain esp hands, feet, neck and legs, cold discolored fingers, stiffness, reddish purple spots now and then on fingers. Been getting chest pain, some pain in the rib area (no idea what that is) and have been urinating much more often, esp at night which never used to happen. Rash on face and neck, consistent low grade temp. Vitamin d at 11. Overall, I feel awful.
what is the reason and medicine to cure my neck glands pain ? My esr is high. This discussion is related to CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND MY ABNORMAL BLOOD RESULTS?.
I have problems with my neck, but I don't think I would say it locks up. Maybe shooting nerve type pain. You might want to see a chiropractor. It could just be stress related. I was reading your previous post and wondered what medicine have you been on? And exactly what "kidney level" are you referring to. Try to get a copy of your lab. As a matter of fact, you will probably need to start keeping very detailed copies of ALL your labs and test. Keep them in your own file.
Lupus runs in my family my mom and my aunt both have it...

The pain usually starts in one place such as my wrist, then after an hour will travel to my wrist and elbow and then my fingers! Same thing happens with my leg area the pain travels and becomes more wide spread! There's no noticeable swelling nor red spots?
