Common Questions and Answers about Neck pain causes shoulder pain

neck

Avatar n tn Could having a chiari 1 malformation possibly cause shoulder pain? My dr. at Univ. of Iowa doesn't think so. He thinks my shoulder pain is due to arthritis in my neck and a doctor here in Bloomington, IL, feels my shoulder pain is caused from some bulging/herniated discs and arthritis in my neck.
Avatar m tn Sometimes ligament tears and tendonitis around the shoulder joint also causes shoulder sagging. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
Avatar n tn yep, it's nerve pain between the shoulder blades. Do you know what the problem is? Did you have an MRI? Depending on what the problem is, a chiropractor might be helpful... but it all depends on the problem. My Neuro has told me never to let anyone manipulate my neck because of my large cervical herniations. So, again - IF your Dr gives you the ok - go see a chiropractor (always check with them first)... they can really can help in some instances...

666921 tn?1254990618 all I had was phone call abour MRI results. Yes I do get problems other than neck pain but do not know what pressure on nerves can cause other than pain!! Am I right in thinking that LYME can cause the arthritis? What causes the extremely stiff neck that some Lyme patients experience at on set. I presume it is muscle tension-I guess unrelenting tension in neck/shoulder area can start to impact on the skeleton by pulling etc; I haven't ruled out Lyme.
666921 tn?1254990618 t have any neck pain untill after tick-bite [I have not been dx lyme] - I had slight shoulder pain on left side but just niggily!! - since tick bite and episode of very stiff neck - I have severe neck pain /shoulder pain on right side. I can't decide if the pain is due to degeneration or lyme - I suppose I should wait to see what LLMD thinks about this symptom. I know must of us here have done a lot of research and self diagnosis so I just thought I'd ask for your opinions.

Avatar n tn Since the surgery the neck pain and shoulder blade pain has been considerably better. Unless you have any recent injuries to the area it might be a good idea to consult author Pete especially store a chiropractor to see if there are any structural causes for your muscular pain.
Avatar f tn precipitation of head pain by neck movement or awkward neck positions, head pain when external pressure is applied to the neck or occipital region, restricted range of motion of the neck, and neck, shoulder and arm pain. Treatment for cervicogenic headache includes physical therapy, medications, behavioral therapy, and other modalities.

1414174 tn?1304680526 It sounds more like muscle pain to me. When the liver causes pain in the shoulder it is because the liver is inflammed and is pressing on the capsule it sits in, which shares a nerve with the diaphragm. That nerve is what causes the pain. Hope you feel better soon.
Avatar f tn It really hurts and at times the pain radiates down my shoulder. It is on both sides of neck. Should I be concerned about this? I am a heavy smoker.
Avatar n tn Would shoulder bursitis cause pain in the neck as well as the upper arm? Neck pain feels like a crick but much worse.
Avatar m tn Well it is my right shoulder, so when I fully extend my arm foward and slowly bring it left (still fully extended) I get this pain in my shoulder area. The pain is also present when I full extend my arm above my head and bring it acorss my body ( like it i was reaching for something above my head and the item is to the left of me). Also when I tucking in my shirt when my arm is behind me, I can feel the pain.
Avatar m tn Usually pain in the left portion of the head along with radiation to shoulder originates from the neck problems due to irritation in the cervical (neck) spine because the nerves that supply the back of the head start in the upper cervical spine. Mostly, similar kind of head pain that radiates to shoulder occurs in patients with previous neck injuries and in patients with marked arthritis of the upper cervical spine.
Avatar f tn I've had this problem for more than an year now. I was once studying at night and fell asleep on my study table. Woke up early in the morning and found my pain and back aching. Didn't seem much of a problem at that time. However the pain increased by afternoon. I didn't consider it any major thing and turned my head a bit sideways. It helped. Sort of. Momentarily. The pain became persistent and I again turned my head. This sort of became a habit and I've still been doing it!
Avatar f tn They both may be correct. The bursitis causes pain, you stop moving your shoulder, and develope what is known as a secondary frozen shoulder. Before this improves, the cause of pain must be eliminated first. A primary frozen shoulder forms for no specific reason, and is insidious in its onset. with increasing loss of motion that sometimes goes unnoticed by the patient for some time. Either way, it can some times take a year, before the patient regains full motion.
Avatar n tn Pain around my bottom of shoulder blade for over 6 months. Stiff upon waking up, some days it goes away but most days it stays. Sitting up, without back support, can be a pain. Laying down or laying propped up, hurts. Let me give an example: I can be propped up, reading a book, holding a book in my left hand, puts me in so much pain in this area. When I turn my back from side to side, it hurts. I do get a lot of muscle strains in this area as well. The pain is always there.
Avatar n tn I have a pain in my shoulder that may radiate down to my elbow occassionally It occurs mainly when seated. Orthopedic DR. saw only a slight disk space shrinkage on C5. The pain is only on the right side. I am active in sports and need a better therapy. Chiropractic was no help. the pain is a 2 out of 10. It is more of an annoyance. Would a neck traction be warranted.
Avatar n tn I HAVE BEEN HAVING SHOULDER PAIN AND NUMBNESS ON MY RIGHT ARM WHAT CAN BE THE CAUSE OF THAT?
Avatar n tn Strained muscles and sprained ligaments are among the most common causes of shoulder pain. This usually occurs when excessive pressure, often from exercising too much, causes the tissue to stretch too much or excessively, causing them to become damaged or torn. Pulled muscular tissue and pinched nerves are other possibilities. Apply warm compresses on the shoulder muscles and some muscle relaxant.
Avatar f tn I have shoulder pain that feels like someone is sticking a knife between my shoulder and ribs. if my arm is not across my stomach it is numb.
Avatar f tn It could be a rotator cuff problem, or it could originate in your neck. Both would be common causes of shoulder pain and dysfunction like this. At night, use pillows to support the arm. Maybe YouTubes like this will help you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?
Avatar m tn I have the same pain in the same area. I have disc herniations in my neck that cause the shoulder blade pain as well as the radiation to the left arm. I would be shocked if the Dr's never considered this as the cause of your pain. Just a suggestion and would be worth asking your doc about it. Hope you figure it all out. Good luck!
