Avatar n tn I understand what you are saying. You are noticing behavior similar to what I have noticed in my husband. It is difficult to explain to anyone else, but you know what is normal for him. It can be difficult at times when you relied on him to take care of certain things and now you aren't sure whether you can. Six years ago my husband had a cancerous lump removed from under his right jawbone and underwent 8 weeks of radiation.
Avatar n tn I was not told I would have a lump in my left breast in the skin from radiation (on the right side of the left breast, radiation treatment exist site, that was not the site of the cancer/surgery), which the surgeon examined and nerve damage in my right blade from radiation, therefore how do I get a list of the PERMINENT SIDE EFFECTS from radiation? Loyola Hospital did not provide this list to me.
Avatar n tn I clicked on the thread that bluebutterfly kindly provided. It doesn't address the question of the original poster - which is the what are the long-term effects of radiation. These are extensive - radiation therapy has long-reaching effects on the body's systems - particularly if rec'd at a young age - I was under 20 - it caused my later breast cancer. It is the reason I am at substantial increased risk for stroke and heart disease (it causes hardening of the arteries).
Avatar n tn Personally, having had Proton treatments, I would not consider any other type treatment due to the 90% cure rate and no side effects... My PSA is now .03 and I have -0- side effects as a result of the treatments..and was not sick one single day during the treatments.. Its like im cured and was never sick. I found out that you shouldnt just take your doctors word for treatments...Check out the options yourself and be sure you know the side effects of all of the treatments..
Avatar n tn She began but later stopped chemotherapy because she could not tolerate the side effects. The cancer treatments were about 30 years ago and she has recently developed COPD as a result of the radiation. So it does appear to have affecter her lungs. I should mention though that she was a smoker for many years as well. She was told that the radiation affected her lungs but have to wonder how much can be attributed to the smoking.
Avatar n tn Are the pains associated from radiation damage or side effects of Arimidex? Has anyone answered that for you?
2023801 tn?1333929758 Great that its he has no cancer. So how much radiation was given to him. I am worried of the radiation side affects for cancer for a normal CT scan on head and neck. I had twice one in 2018 and one in 2019.
Avatar m tn I was not sick or even felt bad one single day as a result of the treatments . My PSA is now .07 and I have absolutley no side effects from the cancer or the treatments. It is like I was never sick. My PSA was 4.5 and my gleason was 8 when my prostate cancer was discovered. I dont know if Proton Radiation is available in your country or not. I had my treatments at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, California.
Avatar m tn works just like it did before the cancer.. like I said I have -0- side effects from my treatments.. If you would like more info on Proton, please feel free to send me a message...I will be glad to tell you more and tell you where you can find out more...I can also put you in touch with men in your area who have had the treatments. Any one who has ever had Proton Radiation is as sold on it as I am.. Its not like conventional radiation.
Avatar n tn It was painful and my clavicle and neck became swollen on the side of the radiation. I suffered from brachial plexopathy but had no residual effects. Actually a 2 months ago I was doing really good and felt I was back to normal. Nine months after radiation I started suffering from low body temps, always cold even after exercise, fatigue, itchiness all over, muscle and joint pain, insomnia, and headaches.
Avatar n tn I just found out in May that I have DCIS. I had a lumpectomy and then a re-excision to get larger margins. I'm starting radiation tomorrow. I read many, many research reports and had a friend help me do the statistics on absolute risks for Tamoxifen's benefits and side effects. I also read research studies on radiation and have talked to at least six friends who had radiation.
Avatar f tn 5 cycles of cisplatin and 25 cycles of external radiation. She completed all her cycles three weeks ago without much side-effects (except for Diarrhea and little bit nausea). Her doctor inspected the area today and said the mass is stable and has not shrunk and she is thus unfit to receive internal radiation. I have the following questions: 1) Is it possible that the therapy did not have any affect on her as she did not experience much of the side-effects caused by chemo.
Avatar n tn 01 I was never sick nor do I have any side effects as a result of the cancer or the Proton Radiation ... In my opinion, Proton Radiation is the closest thing to a complete cure for Prostate cancer that there is.. lots of people give Proton Radiation a bad rap... but they have not been there.. they just run their mounths about something they know very little about... I had my treatments at Loma Linda Universty Medical Center in Loma Linda California...
Avatar f tn Thanks for your reply. Have been on web site re side effects of radiation of right breast . Will be discussing with oncologist re treatment. Do you just do ct scans?.
Avatar m tn 03. Personally i would not consider a radical prostectamy. It has too many bad side effects.. Proton Radiation is the very best treatment for prostate cancer in my opinion. It has a 90% cure rate and no side effects usually. I was not sick or even felt bad one single day during or after my treatments... and I have no side effects at all as a result of the treatments... Its like I never had cancer. As far as waiting ..personally I wouldnt wait..
Avatar f tn I very much doubt you will have to have Chemo and as for radiation, it will be RAI (radioactive iodine) and that is a breeze compared to surgery.I have had both RAI and TT (RAI being first) and no side effects other than a hot neck that night. I have a heart murmur and like you was worried but there is nothing to worry about. (I am 50 at the end of this year, so no spring chicken lol ). Its a case of swallowing a pill and then getting your thyroid levels right. Dont worry yourself too much Ally.
Avatar n tn BUT IF HE DOES YOU SHOULD CONSIDER PROTON RADIATION IN MY OPINION.. ITS NOT LIKE CONVENTIONAL RADIATION... IN THAT IT HAS LITTLE TO NO SIDE EFFECTS.
Avatar f tn The chemo and radiation therapy are usually given in cycles, closely monitoring any side effects and the results of therapy. A follow up test or imaging studies will help study the response to therapy. And like you mentioned a proper diabetic control is essential as the blood sugars keep fluctuating with therapy. Just try to divert your mind and keep yourself engaged with activities which will help you relax, this will take the pressure of you. Take Care and Wish you well.
Avatar n tn I'm 8 weeks post prostate removal. Had Gleason 6- Margins were clear in pathology report. They now want me to have 7 weeks of 5 day, 15 minute radiation treatments as insurance. Has anyone else done this.? If so what are side effects. What was doctor's argument for the radiation. I can't decide what to do. Please help.
Avatar n tn You may be given steroids to reduce inflammation - those meds have side effects as well.
Avatar n tn You mention mammograms but any exposure to radiation is listed as an increased risk of developing breast cancer. This includes any type of X-ray; including dental X-rays. It would take an unreasonable amount of X-rays of all types to actually cause a cancer event. The exposure is so minute it's really nothing to worry about.
