168348 tn?1379357075 Although most forms of thyroid cancer have an excellent prognosis, the word cancer and its connotations is frightening to most people, and fear of the unknown and what lies ahead is not uncommon. A common scenario preceding the initial diagnosis is for the usual patient to be in reasonably good health, not feel sick, and simply have a small thyroid nodule that usually does not cause any symptoms.
Avatar f tn thyroidectomy I still have vocal range weakness and choke easily on foods? Is my prognosis good if 51 yo F with 5 mm tumor and metastasis in only one lymph node and perithyroid fat extension? Tx.
Avatar f tn Turns our the lump (2.5 cm) is a lymph node on the right side of neck so the cancer has spread. I am having surgery Sept. 9th for a TT and neck dissection to remove some lymph nodes too. What are the chances of the cancer turning up somewhere else since we dont know how long it has been haning out in my lyphnatic system? It seems uncommon for it to spread to lungs, liver or bones but can it happen? planning on doing the radioactive iodine treatment 5-6 wks after surgery.
Avatar f tn It is possible that these nodules are metastases from his base of the tongue cancer. The decision to give or not to give further cancer treatment/s will depend on a lot of things. Consider the age of the patient, risks and benefits of treatment, possible side effects, and end point in making a decision. For now, your father needs the best supportive care he can get. Take care.
Avatar m tn I am 33 and was diagnosed last week with Papillary Thyroid Cancer after a TT. The nodule on my right side was just under 3cm. They removed 24 lymph nodes and found cancer in all 24:( I am scheduled to undergo RAI on Sept 20, 2012. Then will have a full body scan a few days later. My question is- anyone else have such a large lymph node involvement? I know this is very treatable.
946446 tn?1295975694 Being positive (overexpression) for Her2neu means that your cancer cells do have these receptors. Her2neu is an oncogene that makes the cancer more likely to grow and spread than if you were negative. However, the good news is that there is a drug, Herceptin, that targets these receptors. It is usually begun with other chemo drugs or started after them depending on your regimen and your doctor and is course of treatment for 11 or 12 months.
506043 tn?1222294696 Papillary thyroid cancer, even with lymph node metastases has an excellent prognosis. Actually, strangely enough, from everything I've read, the prognosis doesn't change at all whether lymph nodes are involved or not. It's understandable to be scared, but, luckily, our papillary thyroid cancer is very treatable.
Avatar f tn Even though I was stage 1a i still had chemotherapy as was advised 6 treatments of carboplatin and paclitaxol , I was told that as my clear cell was from malignant endometriosis the prognosis is slightly better. Everybody with a diagnosis of cancer experiences all sorts of emotions and fear was my biggest one , I think the uncertainty and fear of the unknown is a natural reaction for all.
403156 tn?1290150018 What is the long term prognosis? Given how large it is, is it likely that it has spread? I am just trying to prepare myself...
Avatar n tn He also has Stage 1 or 2 prostate cancer. What do you think his mortality rate is? Hours, days, months?
Avatar f tn About a year ago I went to my endocrinologist for a checkup (i am insulin resistant). She noticed that my thyroid felt a little "full." She recommended I have a UC, but at that time my daughter was sick in the hospital so I was unable to go. A year later I had another checkup and after feeling my neck she didn't say anything about my thyroid until she saw in my chart that I never went to get the UC and suggested that I do.
506043 tn?1222294696 s NOT cancer, and that I will heal quickly. I will post when I return home on Tuesday. Thank you all for being so supportive. Avatar f tn With all the advancement in research and cure for cancer today, cancer survival rates should become higher compared to the statistics last ten years ago. I hope this helps. Best wishes...
Avatar m tn The doctor told me that they are not tumors and never contain cancer cells, unless you already have brain cancer and I do not. Did your doctor also tell you no sex? Also, do you know how long it takes a bleed to stop? I know the brain is the slowest healing organ in the body...Great. I have been in a terrible mood for the last week since prognosis. They say on the web that no ones ever died of cavernous angiomas, but I know the symptoms can get terrible.
Avatar n tn The ADH is not really considered as cancer ... the suspicious lesions of course will be decided by the excisional biopsy. Until then there is no way to know the cause of these lesions. A far as recovery ... it shouldn't be much of a problem. A small incision and of course will be sore and uncomfortable for a week or so .... you will be given specific instructions before surgery as each Surgeon usually has his/her own preferences. Regards .....
Avatar f tn Had modified neck dissection for papillary cancer 1/12. Knew there was cancer is cervical lymph nodes, but path. report after surger found cancer in mediastinal nodes as well. Also, capsular invasion of chest muscle. With this diagnosis, if age 45 or older, the cancer would be stage IV; younger that 45, stage II. Is it just me, or does it seem insane that age alone can change the prognosis of my disease, especially with the metastasis (also, my tumors were large - some more than 3cm)?
Avatar n tn She has a tummer in her stomach now. She first had her cancer in her neck head and Lungs. Well the doctor said there is nothing more they can do for her because she is so frell weak. She had all the radiation she can have to her head, lung and neck. They can't do radiation on her stomach because it is to close to her videl organs. and they can't do chemo because she is to weak. Only 95# She can eat but not the protein stuff like meats. Hospice is stepping in already.
Avatar f tn I know everyone is different but is there a prognosis for this type of cancer and stage that has undergone these tx's? I just want to know what to expect and can't find any sites that clearly answer this. Any information that you have would be appreciated. And are there alternative tx's?
Avatar n tn A finding that your cat has cancer any type of cancer is stressful for a pet owner. The good news is the prognosis for cats with Squamous cell carcinoma is much better than it is for other types of cancer. If the cancer is treated early enough, squamous cell carcinoma in cats is usually treatable. In most cats with skin Squamous cell carcinoma, the prognosis following surgery is excellent. It is promising that the affected area is small.
Avatar f tn Three years ago I was diagnosed with late stage ovarian cancer. Half the people diagnosed die every year. I have a subset which does not work with chemo. I have been on chemo for three years. I am now stable. I also have the BRCA mutation which gives me a 90% of triple negative breast cancer which has a short survival time. So I could die from ovarian, die of breast cancer, or end up with progression in MS. I also could beat all three. No one knows.I could make myself crazy thinking about it.
Avatar n tn Oral HPV has no preference oral or vaginal, its equally satisfied to live in either place, it loves mucosa. Testing every biopsy and reporting HPV positive or negative head and neck cancers is now standard requirement teachings hospitals, but its still relatively new. I work in a giant teaching hospital in pathology. 90% of all base of tongue and tonsil cancer are hpv. we are finding up to half of all oropharyngeal, hypopharyngeal, nasopharyngeal cancers are hpv related.
