Avatar m tn I owned a dispensary for three years and saw the most amazing changes in quality of life within cancer patients. It really was heartwarming to see chemo patients gain weight every week. It may not replace the fentanyl but it will easily cut it in half and allow you to sleep.
356929 tn?1246389756 Is it just perhaps because older patients do not participate in forums such as this OR should doctors re evaluate their criteria for "age onset" of Ovarian Cancer ?? Maybe they should take more seriously those who come in with symptoms suggestive of Ovarian Cancer regardless of the age.. Which we've said all along but........ Just a ponder ....

168348 tn?1379357075 Thyroid cancer often affects young patients, more frequently women then men. Although papillary and follicular thyroid cancer is highly treatable and has an excellent prognosis, the diagnosis of cancer is frequently frightening and may have psychological consequences that persist even once the cancer has been successfully treated. Once previously healthy individuals are told that they have thyroid cancer, it is quite common to experience some degree of panic and become frightened.
Avatar m tn com/id/50388546/ns/health-cancer/ Besides obesity, the report points to another potential growing cause of cancer – HPV. The report finds that two cancers on the rise, head and neck cancer and anal cancer, are caused by HPV. “HPV-associated cancers accounted for 3.3 percent of all cancer cases among women and 2 percent of the total cancer cases among men diagnosed in 2009,” the report reads. That adds up to 21,000 women and more than 13,000 men diagnosed with these cancers.
Avatar n tn Oral HPV has no preference oral or vaginal, its equally satisfied to live in either place, it loves mucosa. Testing every biopsy and reporting HPV positive or negative head and neck cancers is now standard requirement teachings hospitals, but its still relatively new. I work in a giant teaching hospital in pathology. 90% of all base of tongue and tonsil cancer are hpv. we are finding up to half of all oropharyngeal, hypopharyngeal, nasopharyngeal cancers are hpv related.
Avatar n tn How long ago did he have the cancer? Cancer patients should have yearly follow up where their thyroglobulin (abbreviated Tg) level is checked and possibly a neck ultrasound is performed. Thyroid cancer can come back. In more advanced cases it can spread to lungs and less commonly, to bone. These can still be extremely treatable if caught early so that's why follow up is so important.
Avatar n tn My sister recently had a large cyst and ovary removed. 3 months later her stomach has grown and grown and it looks as if she is 9 months pregnant. She was advised today by the local GP that he needed to do cancer tests as the results were cancerous. It does not make sense. My mother & brother died of cancer and little brother has prostrate cancer.
Avatar m tn For patients without history of cancer, follow-up is based on Fleischner Society guidelines, which takes into account nodule size and appearance, as well as if patient is low risk or high risk for lung cancer (e.g., smoking history). For patients with history of cancer, as in your case, Fleischner Society guidelines do not apply. Instead, follow-up is based on the specific clinical situation and at the discretion of ordering provider.

Avatar f tn She was allowed at first only stage 4 patients by the head oncologist in her hospital . She went on to treat cancer patients with Essiac injections in her own Clinic in Bracebridge (The Lee Building). I live in N. Ontario and I've seen the Plaque now on the Lee Building: "This building was originally constructed and established in 1870 as the British Lion Hotel by two well established actors from England.
362809 tn?1233506554 I have seen several cases of CT, PET and I-131 WBS negative patients who have obvious abnormality on neck ultrasound that come back positive on FNA (either cytology or Tg-needle washout). Most likely you have lateral neck (level 2-4 (5)) disease and need a formal lateral neck dissection. I have sent patients to places like MD Anderson in Houston and Memorial Sloan-Kettering in NY and Cleveland Clinic for opinions and surgery in these settings.
Avatar f tn Papillary thyroid cancer is the most common type of thyroid cancer and is the most treatable. Your correct that the vast majority of patients do very well with appropriate therapy. It isn't uncommon for patients with papillary thyroid cancer to have tachycardia (increased heart rate), so this may have been a separate problem. She should ask if her thyroid function was normal, as hyperthyroidism can cause an increased heart rate.
Avatar m tn I hate that we are expected to look a certain way. There are so many advances in science and cosmetics now that allow cancer patients to look just fine. I looked perfectly healthy even after living with cancer for 2 years before treatments. If you think this person is lying for whatever reason, let them live their own life in their own shame. It does not make you any better to pry for answers to make them look bad.
735676 tn?1257572226 Too much thyroid medication can cause muscle damage - so if TSH is undectable (which is sometimes goal in treating cancer patients), this may be one thing to consider. However it often takes 6-12 months of normal thyroid levels for this damage to improve. Sometimes treating with some T3 (ie, cytomel 5mcg 1-2x/day in addition to the synthroid) helps muscle symptoms. Still, keep TSH at goal for cancer treatment.
Avatar n tn Signs include slurred speech and difficulty in balance. Is this common for cancer patients or something more. She is taking morphine for the pain, but they seem to think it isn't that. She didn't take any the last couple of days, yet the symptoms are still there. I know that every person is different when it comes to cancer, but what should we expect in the comming weeks as the chemo has stopped. Could she feasibly live for another few months in the amount of pain she's in?
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any idea how soon I need surgery if I have papillary carcinoma? Sorry for the repost, but I'm freaking out since the pathologist told me to get it within the month. I'm not sure I can even get a surgery consult here in that amount of time! Am I stressing over nothing? Thanks!!

436191 tn?1256646306 898, just started taking high doses of asprin to test (1000 mg dose). I do have a lot of what I thought was cervical spine pain...but I also have so much tenderness in the front of my neck and up into my jaw and ear that I wonder what this Hashimotos/nodule may have to do with it all. Most of my pain is also right sided and that's the lobe the nodules are on (I do have a much smaller nodule along with the 2.4 cm one.
362809 tn?1233506554 I'm sorry for the recurrence! I'm glad that you didn't just listen to the docs and pushed for more testing. It's sad how many docs don't even check the Tg on cancer patients! Even fewer realize that just a *small* increase in the Tg can mean recurrence too. I'm sorry you are going to have to go through all of this again but I'm so glad that you pushed to catch it before it spread even more!
Avatar m tn Father had some cancer in his neck/throat, Grandfather had skin cancer 2 years ago I felt a lump in my neck, it was checked out and said to be an enlarged lymph node, it is still enlarged up to now. 3 month ago I felt another lump this time right below my ear on the jaw line, checked again and doctor said it was englarged lymph node Blood tests revealed no lymphoma About 2 months ago I felt a lump in my check near my lower jaw line.
Avatar f tn Mostly, this kind of head pain aggravates after turning head and typically occurs in patients with previous neck injuries and in patients with marked arthritis of the upper cervical spine. In addition, this pain exacerbate with prolonged sitting in a stooped posture and when working on a computers for long hours. On the other hand, there are patients who experience similar pain with sinusitis (sinus with infected mucus) and migraine.
