Neck cancer lymph nodes

Common Questions and Answers about Neck cancer lymph nodes

neck

Avatar n tn I have had swollen lymph nodes in my neck since my childhood. They get larger when I have infection/illness. The last few months I have added swollen lymph nodes along my collar bone mainly in the left should, but there is some on the right. Do I need to push harder to have the lymph nodes test. Not thinking cancer, but it is hopeful that once they biopsy the nodes, they can get a understanding of why. I am interested in what others say to you on what you have.
Avatar n tn Lymph nodes enlarge when there is an infection. The head and neck area have an extensive network of lymph nodes. These lymph nodes function like a filter, and thus increase in size in the presence of infection to filter out organisms. Even with treatment, some lymph nodes remain enlarged. A recurrent infection would further increase the size of the lymph node. However, there are other conditions that can present with lymph node enlargement. Head and neck malignancy is an example.
Avatar f tn I have swollen lymph nodes in my neck I already know I have lung cancer, but my jaw hurts and the lymph nodes hurt, should I be concerned?
1503643 tn?1311518238 Swollen lymphy nodes can indicate cancer in some other place on your body. It does not mean your lymph nodes are cancerous. Infections cause lymph nodes to swell so if you go see a doctor they might diagnose the problem and give you antibiotics to kill the infection...hence the nodes will shrink. Good Luck!!
Avatar n tn It seems that my lump near my throat is not a lymph node. And that the other lymph nodes in my neck are not swollen (at least the one that can be felt by hand), Also that my fever is on the normal range and that the pain in the abdonimal is weird and maybe asymptomatic as it is moving and is not constant. So hopefully everything will be ok. Ofcourse I will go to a doctor when I go back home for a better opinion.
Avatar f tn Hi Gracevd70, I wanted to answer your question earlier, but I have no idea if that is something to worry about or not. I just don't know enough about calcification in lymph nodes or what that might mean. Did you have RAI treatment after your thyroidectomy? I think getting the lymph nodes checked out, and especially if you are having neck pain and swollen tonsils is a good idea. Do you have Hashimoto's?
Avatar f tn Do your lymph nodes ALWAYS swell when cancer is present in your body or are there incidents where there are absolutely NO signs at all that you might have some type of cancer? Thank you.
Avatar n tn But the most common cause of swollen lymph nodes is infection. Immune or autoimmune disorders that can cause swollen lymph nodes include rheumatoid arthritis and HIV. Cancers that can cause swollen glands include leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Blood tests including liver function tests, kidney function tests, and CBC with differential lymph node biopsy as well as chest x-ray and liver-spleen scan may be done for further evaluation.
Avatar n tn Hello, Mostly the lymph node swelling are found after an infection. Sinus infections usually cause swollen lymph nodes in the neck. So best would be to get a FNAC of the lymph node done which will confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your physician. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn If this is hurthle cell cancer, it is usually more aggressive than papillary, but the staging system is the same. It depends on age, cancer size, which lymph nodes were involved and spread outside the neck. Would discuss this with your endocrinologist to learn the details/staging and treatment plan for your case. Usually I-131 (radioactive iodine) is used.
Avatar m tn My neck is still swollen. These lumps or lymph nodes are in the back of my neck. At first, I was wary because lymph nodes tend to not be in the back of the neck, however, after some research I learned that there are. I was wondering if these could still lymph nodes or should I go back to the doctors to see if they are malignant cancerous tumors that have spread from somewhere else in my body to my spine. I have no other symptoms of anything being wrong. Just these lumps.
623537 tn?1243564908 my son is 1, and just today i discovered that on his neck, behind his ear, on the base of his head he has swollen lymph nodes. it is just on one side of his neck although the one at the very bottom of his head i am nto sure if it is a swollen lymph node or not because there is one on the other side just not as big. i m very concerned as my father passed away from cancer 6 yrs ago. they are soft and move around and do not seem to hurt him.
Avatar f tn Turns our the lump (2.5 cm) is a lymph node on the right side of neck so the cancer has spread. I am having surgery Sept. 9th for a TT and neck dissection to remove some lymph nodes too. What are the chances of the cancer turning up somewhere else since we dont know how long it has been haning out in my lyphnatic system? It seems uncommon for it to spread to lungs, liver or bones but can it happen? planning on doing the radioactive iodine treatment 5-6 wks after surgery.
Avatar n tn Hello, Lymph nodes are small (1-2cm) and bean-shaped nodes. they are very important to your body keeping you healthy. Lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes) is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Other causes include allergic reactions, arthritis, cancer, metabolic diseases, and an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). What is the constituency of the swollen lymph nodes?
Avatar n tn I have a few questions that I cannot seem to find answers to concerning lymph nodes. Particularly the lymph nodes of the neck and the lower back of the head. The doctors, understandably, are very vague in their responses. My story is as follows. I am a 42 year old male. I smoked for about 18 years and have been quit for about 9 years. I eat right, excercise. I have had swollen lymph nodes in the neck and back of my head for several months now.
Avatar m tn I have never had painful lymph nodes but 2 weeks ago I came up with another sore throat and this time it followed by a swollen lymph node on my neck and painful lymph nodes throughout my body (only the neck was swollen). I also had a low grade fever and still get the low grade fever some nights. I was put on antibiotics again and now one week after I still have painful lymph nodes through my body. On my neck, armpits, groin. The swelling of my neck is almost gone.
Avatar m tn Recently, he had his 6 month ultrasound checkup and they discovered 2 lymph nodes are abnormal. The nodes are in the neck but not near the thyroid area - further up close to jawline area. They are doing a biopsy on the lymph nodes on Thursday. The surgical notes and pathology state that all cancer was contained in the thyroid, was removed, and it had not spread. Could a recurrence happen in 6 months? Could the cancer jump to lymph nodes far away? This seems so odd to me.
Avatar n tn One of the best and still least expensive tests is a careful physical examination by a practitioner skilled in thyroid disease. Because papillary thyroid cancer tends to spread to lymph nodes in the neck rather than other far away areas such as lung or bone, a careful physical examination can easily detect a recurrence in a neck lymph node(s).
Avatar n tn When the body is fighting an infection, lymphocytes multiply rapidly and produce a characteristic swelling of the lymph nodes. Lymph nodes act as filters or traps for foreign particles and contain white blood cells. These cells then destroy foreign invaders. The anterior cervical lymph nodes, both superficial and deep, lie above and beneath the sternocleidomastoid muscles.
Avatar m tn hi i have a 2 year old daughter she has her lymph nodes up in her kneck groin and the back of her kneck for the last 6 mths they have never gone but more are appearing i took her to the doctors 4 mths ago who ordered blood tests they came back she was anemic i have since found another 4 lumps on the back of her kneck i rang my doctor that said there was no concern as there was no other symptoms what shall i do im really worried
Avatar m tn How to Know When to See a Doctor for Painful Lymph Nodes Your lymph nodes filter out bacteria and viruses from your body. Lymph nodes are located throughout your body, with the largest located under your arms, in your neck and in your groin. When lymph nodes are painful, it is a sign that you have some type of infection which the nodes are trying to fight off. The type and severity of the infection and the presence of accompanying symptoms determines when you should see a doctor.
Avatar m tn Pimples are bumps and are sitting on the outside of your skin. Pimples do not look or feel like lymph nodes. Lymph nodes can be painful if you have an infection, but pimples/bumps can be painful also. It sounds like you have a couple of pimples near your hairline, which is pretty normal for people to get. These pimples are often not painful, but sometimes they can be a little sore, especially if you keep picking with it... If you have any further concerns, see an internal medicine doctor.
Avatar f tn Lymphedema is not always from cancer, you can be born with less lymph nodes or some that are damaged and it does not show up until something triggers it and the stress on those nodes during pregnancy could do it. I have had alot of women join my support group asking what happened as when they were pregnant suddenly lymphedema surfaced. Primary lymphedema is the one that means you are born with less nodes or a malformation in the nodes or damaged nodes.
