Common Questions and Answers about Neck cancer lymph

neck

Avatar n tn My only symptom was this one lymph node, very very very swollen, and it was pretty painful. The biopsy came back cancer free. The discomfort in my neck never went away, and has now spread to my right lymph node. I can't really tell if it is swollen, because I have nothing to compare it to. The discomfort comes and goes but in sharp spurts. Pre-surgery the only thing that showed in the CT scan was the swollen lymph node which was then promptly removed. What could this be!
Avatar n tn Lymph nodes enlarge when there is an infection. The head and neck area have an extensive network of lymph nodes. These lymph nodes function like a filter, and thus increase in size in the presence of infection to filter out organisms. Even with treatment, some lymph nodes remain enlarged. A recurrent infection would further increase the size of the lymph node. However, there are other conditions that can present with lymph node enlargement. Head and neck malignancy is an example.
Avatar f tn I have swollen lymph nodes in my neck I already know I have lung cancer, but my jaw hurts and the lymph nodes hurt, should I be concerned?
Avatar n tn This has become more frequent the last year or so. My right lymph node on my neck is swollen. Definitely a positive lymph node on the neck. I used to be able to recall peoples names very well, and now I am getting really bad about it. A few weeks ago, I must have had a virus because I had a low grade fever for a good 2 to 3 weeks. I admit that I don't drink enough water, but I used to be soo active (gym, study without problem, functioned on minimal sleep, etc.
Avatar n tn It seems that my lump near my throat is not a lymph node. And that the other lymph nodes in my neck are not swollen (at least the one that can be felt by hand), Also that my fever is on the normal range and that the pain in the abdonimal is weird and maybe asymptomatic as it is moving and is not constant. So hopefully everything will be ok. Ofcourse I will go to a doctor when I go back home for a better opinion.
Avatar f tn Turns our the lump (2.5 cm) is a lymph node on the right side of neck so the cancer has spread. I am having surgery Sept. 9th for a TT and neck dissection to remove some lymph nodes too. What are the chances of the cancer turning up somewhere else since we dont know how long it has been haning out in my lyphnatic system? It seems uncommon for it to spread to lungs, liver or bones but can it happen? planning on doing the radioactive iodine treatment 5-6 wks after surgery.
1503643 tn?1311518238 I have been through 6 different courses of antibiotics over the last year. I have had cervical cancer, thyroid cancer that metastisized to the lymph nodes in 2003. radiation and 5 surgeries on my neck. I was told that I no longer have thyroid cancer. Biopsies taken back in April said lymphoid proliferation and lymphoid dysplasia. I was told that I have a virus. Then when I saw the doctors last week.
393685 tn?1425812522 Would you see on a US for thyroid some other type of cancer, like ie throat or neck or something? This is how nervous I am. I never hurt this bad. I just want to understand. I just hurt bad.
Avatar n tn Thyroid tissue in a lymph node, usually means spread of thyroid cancer to that lymph node. If this is hurthle cell cancer, it is usually more aggressive than papillary, but the staging system is the same. It depends on age, cancer size, which lymph nodes were involved and spread outside the neck. Would discuss this with your endocrinologist to learn the details/staging and treatment plan for your case. Usually I-131 (radioactive iodine) is used.
Avatar f tn If it is a lymph node from an infected tooth, usually the tooth and the lymph node will be painful, It can be a swollen lymph node from a serious condition such as lymphoma, a type of cancer. So please get this checked out.
Avatar n tn One of the best and still least expensive tests is a careful physical examination by a practitioner skilled in thyroid disease. Because papillary thyroid cancer tends to spread to lymph nodes in the neck rather than other far away areas such as lung or bone, a careful physical examination can easily detect a recurrence in a neck lymph node(s).
Avatar f tn Hi Gracevd70, I wanted to answer your question earlier, but I have no idea if that is something to worry about or not. I just don't know enough about calcification in lymph nodes or what that might mean. Did you have RAI treatment after your thyroidectomy? I think getting the lymph nodes checked out, and especially if you are having neck pain and swollen tonsils is a good idea. Do you have Hashimoto's?
Avatar f tn I had Breast Cancer 5 years ago..Surgery, Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, followed and two years ago I had a double Mastectomy and breast Reconstruction. Last year left side of my neck started to swell..was told it may be Lymphedema, in the meantime I've had MRI, Bone Scan, Cat Scan all rule out cancer. So I'm left with Lymphedema in my neck...but no ones knows how to treat it. The swelling is very noticeable and the area is sore. Arm is weak.
Avatar m tn Hello, im 23 years old, male, in generally good health, but for about the last 2 weeks or so I have noticed one large swollen lymph node on the right side of my neck underneath my jaw, around the submandibular gland. I don't think it was there before then but it was pretty large when I finally noticed it and this gave me concern.

Avatar f tn I'm a 16 year old female. I have what feels to be a 3 in. lump under the muscle of the right side of my neck that's been present for 2 years. It's in the middle of the side of my neck and slowly growing to the front of my neck. Doctors did an ultrasound plus blood work and saw nothing abnormal and said it's just me growing weirdly. There's no pain but it's uncomfortable and causes pressure on the inside my neck. Do you think it is from growing or something else?

Avatar f tn Do your lymph nodes ALWAYS swell when cancer is present in your body or are there incidents where there are absolutely NO signs at all that you might have some type of cancer? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Thank you, Is it true that if the node is at the base of your neck it is more likely to be cancer?
Avatar n tn If you had cancer in the past and the lymph node showed up on your neck.. wouldnt you see an Oncologist? Could be a recurrence from the original cancer?
Avatar f tn Three years ago an US revealed a cervical lymph node positive for thyroid cancer recurrence. Had a radical neck dissection on that side of the neck in 2014 and only one lymph node was cancerous. In July, an US revealed another papillary thyroid cancer positive lymph node on the other side of my neck. Was referred to an endocrine surgeon who said I have "persistent disease" not a recurrence.
1069633 tn?1255242989 Hi, I had papillary carcinoma follicular variant thyroid cancer when I was 22 and now have a foot scar on my neck. My secondary cancer was cervical. Which I had diagnosed right before my wedding, when I was 23. It is a good thing you got it checked out when you did. I feel your pain, so to speak having a secondary cancer.
