The compression of the median nerve can cause pain all the way up to the neck and is not relieved by pain meds because it is nerve pain. I finally caved in and decided to have carpal tunnel release surgery in the right hand (even though the doctor said it was well advanced and may not relieve the pain in my arm if there is damage to the nerve). I am happy to say that the pain in my upper arm and the numbness in my hand is completely gone!
I'm fused from c/3 thru c/7 in six surgries over 15 years. It don't sound good, you have a lot going on. You mention cycling, sitting in a hunched over and neck bent back position is very, very, bad for your neck by the description you wrote. Unfortunately you need to lay off the bike for a while. Describe you pain? Is it local to the neck? does it shoot down your arms, shoulder? Do you hurt between the shoulder blades? Numbness, tingling in hands?
plastic surgery in July (breast reduction and tummy tuck; high blood pressure and I am hypoglecemic. My PCP states he heard something in my neck and has ordered a Caritoid Ultrasound but I am concern that this is not my problem and it is something we are missing. I am having a low grade headache;some low grade burred vision; dizziness when turning over in the bed and some facial pain behind my eyes. Please tell me if we should be looking at other things.
Tai chi is a tame form of martial arts, but it's your best defense against pain. Since pain and stiffness can worsen with either excessive movement or inactivity, this gentle movement strikes the perfect balance. In a University of North Carolina study, people who performed a tai chi program regularly for eight weeks saw significant improvements in arthritis pain, stiffness, and sleeplessness due to pain.
So back in March I had the worst experience of my life, which was a panic attack while driving. It stopped me from driving for a while, and I felt helpless and alone. I just wanted to thank you all for helping me turn myself around, because I now am driving again, and have made it as far as 200 miles away from home with out the frequent pulling over to freak myself out. Thanks for all the support, this community posting really did help me.
Hi, I too get that annoying red nervous rash all over my chest and neck. It's very embarrassing. I am a corporate trainer and I love my job, but getting up and talking in front of people on an almost daily biases gives my nerves a workout. I have only had this horrible anxious rash for 4 years, ever since I graduated college and entered the work force. I have found that tanning helps, I am somewhat fair skinned and having a tan you are unable to see the redness.

Bowling require neck extension and will typically aggravate this pain. Other sports such as swimming, cycling, and volleyball have components of extension inherent, which will also cause momentary shoulder and arm pain. The follow through in the golf swing and the serve in tennis require momentary neck extension that can cause a “jolt” of pain during the maneuver. I hope this information will help you.
I have felt this kind of pain too. Im 25 and it started a little while ago everytime I was on my period. It only happened when I had to go to the bathroom. I thought at first, maybe it's cause I am on my period. But then it started happening in between periods. Then I thought constipation but I have never felt pain so sever with that. I was usually sitting on the toilet when it happened and I would try to straighten my torso because it didn't hurt as bad as sitting.
Hi Everyone, I have had upper back/Neck/Shoulder pain for about ten years now, And In 2000 I started getting tingling sensations all over and some numb spots, that went away after a while, but then returnd about four years ago along with wrist, finger, hand, arm, leg, feet pain, Just random pains all over with the tingling. Had a lot of travel and work stress in Sep/Oct and I started getting intermittent pain traveling up the neck to the left side of my jaw. The pain also radiated to my left arm pit. These were some of the same symptoms I had during the heart attack. Went to ER with the pain as it seemed to last longer and was growing in intensity. They did an angiogram and found everything was ok - and have suggested my heart and blood vessels are fine...
I first noticed the pain while DH and I were engaged in some, ah, bedroom fun ;) . We had previously decided that we need to replace our mattress, so when I first felt the stabbing pain, I thought that a spring had come undone, but that turned out not to be the case. I don't have any pain in my knee other than when I kneel on it. It's been almost a month now and there hasn't been any subsidence in the pain. It's starting to put a crimp in said bedroom fun, which neither DH nor I is (are?
I did well for about 2-3 weeks then started having chest pain and right shoulder pain, getting worse with activity. I have had many tests, heart tests, MRI, x-rays, and they can't find any reason for my pain. My cardiologist didn't help me much after the procedure and now I have gone for a second opinion and hope and pray that he can help me! I just want to be able to do normal things without pain. I know this is not normal and it didn't start until after the ablation.
My surgeon wouldn't give me anything more than vicodin 500 after surgery and I was complaining of the pain from the moment I awoke from surgery. While in the hospital, I got demoral AND 1 Vike every 4 hours. I was in extreme pain and went home in worse condition with pains now down both legs. Still, my surgeon refused to give me pills that worked. I had to have my surgeon release my meds to my family doc. so I could function.

Everyone is different but I have joint pain in my hands, fingers, feet, knees, elbows, shoulders, hips and neck. I get ligament problems in my feet, achillies and knees and I thihnk sometimes my hip pain is more tendon that joint pain. I had physio thereapy to teach me how to walk in a way that did not make certain joints worse and to strengthen some muscles to reduce the strain.
It is a natural anti inflamatory reduces swelling and is said to be safer thatn NSAIDS. Since then I had an MRI and have much more wrong with my shoulder than frozen shoulder, tendonitis, bursitis, AC joint hypertrophy Have you gone to your GP with the hip pain? I would hope he would try to help you. I had to go to an orthopedic doctor that specialized in shoulder joints and hip joints before I was able to get an MRI to pin point the problem.
Mine started with a burning pain between my right shoulder blade and my spine. I get tingling on top of both shoulders, and have quite a bit of upper neck pain. I,too, wake very early with pain that feels like someone has attached vice-grips to my spine, between my shoulder blades, then squeezes. It usually radiates to my ribcage, sometimes to my chest. I take ambien regularly (small doses);and hydrocodone and ibuprofen for the ache.
I feel off a building and landed on my face in 2003. I have been having pain in my right shoulder blade and arm, left lower back and left testicle ever since. The docs found through MRIs that I have bulging discs in my neck and my back and they are getting inflamed due to certain activities. It is easy with the shoulder to avoid the aggravating things but with the lower back it is almost impossible. Sitting with my back bent at all will cause a flare up that lasts for days.
He told me to drive with my LEFT hand and keep my shoulder down - and it worked! No pain! I have stopped doing any exercising. No running, walking, no weight training, no yoga. Its killing me but the pain is less. Also bought new sneakers. I was pronating and now am using sneakers that are pretty flat. Whoever talked about proper ergonomics and proper shoes is correct. The MAT therapist is also going to give me an isometric program to strenghten my muscles around the SI joint.
"Change your mattress" was the first thing everyone said to me. I did so a while ago and it didn't help. I am now entering another "pain cycle" and unlike before I really HAVE done my stretching and been better about exercise. Anyone know a good witch doctor? Voodoo? Anything at this point. No fun, that's for sure.
7-10). Pressure would build in my neck, shoulder, and travel down the bottom of my left arm and exit my pinky finger (pinky finger only). I could feel these symptoms come on to the point that we bought a blood pressure monitor and when it would start we'd start the monitor and my blood pressure was really high 160/90 and higher. As soon as the symptoms would let up, we'd retake my bp and it would be 130/85 and then after 4 minutes it would be consistently 126/82.
Certain sports will make the pain worse because of neck positioning. I hope this information will help you.
jbear, I have been taking Ultram for over one year now and it has been fairly good in relieving pain but many days the pain breaks through and I could take any amount of Ultram and it won't work. I was taking 10 50 mg tabs per day but now that I take 8-10 30 mg of plain codiene everyday I automatically have hardly taken any Ultram. I was taking them both at the same time but there was no need for the Ultram. Sometimes if the pain is bad I take 2-3 codiene tabs and 1-2 Ultrams.
Then, Dec12 I got some pretty uncomfortable cramping in my lower abdomen, and hasnt stopped for 3 days. The pain is mild/moderate and sometimes seems to radiate to my lower back and down my thighs. I went to the ER twice in the past two days. The forst one said maybe its a side effect from stopping the pill, and the second did bloodwork and urinalysis and all was normal. Tomorrow Im scheduled for an ultrasound of my lower abdomen to check for ovarian cysts. I am scared.
Anyways, hopefully something will help because I have thin hair to begin with, and I need all that I have. I don't think I am going to comb it out while it is wet anymore, because it really freaks me out.
I did and had no problems. I was off the pain meds after four wks and only took asperin for a while. I believe that all my energy should go towards healing and not fighting pain. It is counter productive. 7. I did not overdo anything and stayed home fm work 6 wks as suggested. You should pace your recovery and activities to YOU, not to anyone else. You know your body better than anyone else, or, you should. 8.
